To order antibiotics online?

Pretty sure I've got some sort of ladies problem. It's not an STI as I've been tested for that. Could be BV or something similar. My doctors are useless - can't get an appointment for ages. And I don't want to go to the GUM clinic. After a quick google I was surprised to learn you can buy metronidazole online from Superdrug. Has anyone done this before? Is it safe to do this if you are pretty confident as to what the condition is - I.e BV?

Well the GP did offer to test for certain STI's (chlamydia and gonorrhoea) so they obviously can and will test for some. But trich doesn't seem to be on the radar so much.

Not determined. I didn't want to be in this position. I'll try some over the counter remedies and see if that works. From what I can see from the canestan test it seems to only differentiate between thrush and bv not bv and trich.

@TheTrollFairy I've had it a few times without any tests at all. No swans, urine, bloods or even an examination. Mr dr would just prescribe it based on what I said. This was about 10 years ago though.

After a quick google

I had 3 types of cancer, ibs, raptured intestine and possible allergy to 5 foods last time I googled my symptoms...

YABU. Change a doctor

gamerchick · 01/10/2019 20:37

OP this isn't your first thread. you've ONLY been tested for 2 STDs, not all of them, or just missed one out.

For Christ's sake, just go to a gum clinic. Get a full screen and then you can stop obsessing on here about it.

Just see it as a dentist appointment for your sexual health. Unpleasant but necessary.

titchy · 01/10/2019 20:38

OP go for it. For some reason posters seem to think you order it like you do something from Amazon - as if prescription only drugs can just be ordered like that in the U.K. Hmm

Online pharmacies DON'T work like that at all. You have a consultation with GMC registered doctor who then gives you a prescription. Same as your own GP, or private provider such as Push Doctor would.

Teachermaths · 01/10/2019 20:42

Your GP prescribed something 10 years ago and you think they'll prescribe it again. Wow.

GUM clinics have responsibility for sexual health testing which is what you really need. If you're willing to go to a GP then a GUM clinic is pretty much the same.

Sugartits87 · 01/10/2019 20:45

@Teachermaths no, my point is that I've been given it before with no examination or tests. So how is that different from getting it online with no tests or examination?

Admittedly my old gp was old school and has now retired. I guess they are more thorough these days,

NHS website says Metronidazole is only available with a prescription

www.nhs.uk/medicines/metronidazole/

So Superdrug probably stock it but you won't be able to buy it without a script.

timshelthechoice · 01/10/2019 21:01

I just had to take a course of metronidazole (and another AB) for stomach ulcers. Holy hell! It had a lot of side effects. Not something I'd want to take OTC.

Can you pay for private screening, that way you avoid the GUM clinic?

I don't think all the 'put on your big girl pants' posts are helpful, it won't encourage the OP to go.

Sugartits87 · 01/10/2019 21:05

@timshelthechoice thank you. I've paid for private screening tests that you do yourself at home but I'm not sure if one is available for trich. I'm not sure where else I could go locally. And there isn't a walk in centre close to me either.

Hmm She'd be getting in with a prescription. After an online consultation with a doctor.

Teachermaths · 01/10/2019 21:12

Your GP won't prescribe something on the basis of you having it 10 years ago even if your symptoms are the same.

OP you really need to get tested properly. Go to the GUM clinic like everyone else. 99% sure you'll have to get your fanny out at the GPs anyway.

BlueCornsihPixie · 01/10/2019 21:15

You need to go to the GUM clinic.

If you need it the GP/GUM clinic will prescribe it and you will get some. If You don't, they won't but you don't need it

If you really can't face the gum clinic go back to your GP, but they will probably tell you you need to go to the GUM clinic to get tested for trich.

Really you need to take some responsibility for your health and go to the appropriate health care setting I.e. the GUM clinic.

Bootikin · 01/10/2019 21:16

There is another route. Go see a PRIVATE GP. They will do all the tests you want at your cost. they will see you same day.

A lot safer than the (batshit) idea a self prescribing powerful antibiotics from a source of unknown quality / legality.

bellinisurge · 01/10/2019 21:21

There are lots of different antibiotics. It's not a one size fits all infections. A proper doctor would tell you which was the appropriate one.

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 01/10/2019 21:30

Oh ffs... If you can't face going to a sexual health clinic then you aren't mature enough to be having sex. Grow up.

Celebelly · 01/10/2019 21:33

Not quite the same, but I get UTI antibiotics from Lloyds online to keep in stock so I always have some. You go through the same questions as your doctor will ask and it's reviewed by a doctor before prescribing. It's been available for years.

BlockedandDeleted · 01/10/2019 21:35

@titchy he'd be getting in with a prescription. After an online consultation with a doctor.

Where does she say that - I can only see posts where OP is asking about getting it without a GP prescription and seems to be under the impression she can buy the online?

Sugartits87 Tue 01-Oct-19 18:15:16
I have taken it before many years ago and I know not to drink with it. I'm just wondering if it's safe to take it without prescription.

Sugartits87 Tue 01-Oct-19 20:19:38
I'm going to have side effects they'll happen whether a GP prescribes them or I get them myself... Must admit I was surprised to see you can get them this way but Superdrug is a fairly reputable chemist/drugstore so I'm sure it's above board.

Celebelly · 01/10/2019 21:36

onlinedoctor.lloydspharmacy.com/

Here's all the stuff they do, including STD kits.

Missingsandraohingreys · 01/10/2019 21:38

Why not GUM ? Just curious as they are really nice , fast , and most critically give you an accurate diagnosis . I am sorry if you
Really can’t share why for personal reasons

Celebelly · 01/10/2019 21:40

I think a lot of people are taking at cross purposes here. Superdrug, Lloyds etc. offer a prescribing service that has to be approved by one of their doctors. You fill in the questionnaire, their doctors look at it and decide whether a prescription is appropriate, then they approve it and your medication is either sent out or you go to collect it.

NavyBerry · 01/10/2019 21:42

It's such a nasty antibiotic. Oh my stomach was in awful pain starting from the first pill. Are you sure you can deal with it? I'd find a way to ask for smth different

timshelthechoice · 01/10/2019 21:44

JFC, she already stated many times 'No GUM, personal reasons, can't say'. So go and see a private GP. Ring them up and tell them what you need tested for, get a female one. But honestly, I wouldn't touch metronidazole without seeing a doctor first. I took it once about 17 years ago and had no reaction to it, this time, holy hell! I had to take a two week course and had to see someone twice to deal with side effects.

titchy · 01/10/2019 21:46

Where does she say that - I can only see posts where OP is asking about getting it without a GP prescription and seems to be under the impression she can buy the online?

That's the process when you order prescription only drugs online in the U.K. Try it - once you add the product to your basket there's then an online consultation to go through before you can check out.

HarissaPaste · 02/10/2019 03:49

I understand what the service is the OP is requesting but I don’t know what the point of self-diagnosing something like this is
