Birthday party choices wwyd

My dd will be 7 years old in Nov and would like a birthday party she'll be in year 2 of primary school.

Looking for advice!

The husband thinks we should book a soft play party but I think we should have a pizza Express make your own pizza or a pizza hut party.

He thinks no one would come to the pizza Express ones as parents are "fussy and want kids to have fun".

All the parties so far that shes been to have been the same soft play type places.

Aibu for wanting to book a pizza Express kid's party??

What would you think if you recieved an invite would your child want to attend?

What does your daughter want to do?

MeanMrMustardSeed · 29/09/2019 20:46

In my experience, 7 year old girls love pizza express parties!

purplelila2 · 29/09/2019 20:47

She wants both parties 🤦‍♀️

I’d go with what your daughter wants but probably be more on the side of soft play as I think kids would find it more fun. I wouldn’t not bring my child to a pizza party though.

DarlingCoffee · 29/09/2019 20:47

Yes, have you asked your daughter what she wants?

AppropriateAdult · 29/09/2019 20:49

I think most of the guests would be happy to go to either, I certainly wouldn’t turn my nose up at Pizza Express and DD(5) would be over the moon.

TheBrockmans · 29/09/2019 20:51

7 is a bit of a transition age and they are beginning to grow out of soft play. Has she had a soft play party before? If not I would maybe give her the option as next year it will probably be too late, whereas pizza party will still be in next year. If she has had soft play parties before then she might want something a little different. My dc have made pizzas at pizza express with school and they have been very accommodating to allergies/ intolerances so I don't think this would be a concern and they do all enjoy them.

TokyoSushi · 29/09/2019 20:55

I'd definitely go to either, but would they definitely sit for long enough in pizza express?

I'd expect you might get 20 minutes or so before they all started making too much noise/wanted to go back and forward to the toilet a million times/somebody started crying because their pizza went wrong/they didn't like it - sounds a bit stressful to me!

They are getting slightly old for soft play but still, they turn up, they dissappear for 2 hours, their parents collect them.

I know what I'd prefer!

KurriKurri · 29/09/2019 20:56

Is soft play a bit young for 7yr olds ? (genuinly asking -I'm ancient and my two were never that into soft play)
I'd have thought a pizza party would be very popular.
But if you want a more active party I'd go for something other than soft play (maybe bowling or rollerskating ? )

PutOnYourDamnSocks · 29/09/2019 20:56

Pizza party. Soft play is hell on earth you you are the parent in charge.

Lovely lovely pizza.

Thelistwizard · 29/09/2019 20:57

At 7 my child would attend any party. Id go for soft play this year if she’s happy, then next year pizza.

WickedLemon · 29/09/2019 20:58

For a bunch of 6 year olds I'd definitely go for an active party rather than a pizza party.

Boobiliboobiliboo · 29/09/2019 20:59

DD had a crazy golf and pizza making party for her 6th birthday. The kids had a ball - it was at a proper Italian so they had them throwing pizza dough etc. Wouldn’t have done it on its own though. They definitely needed the crazy golf activity as well.

frogsbreath · 29/09/2019 20:59

I hate soft play, in year 2/3 some kids started having trampoline parties and all was well with the world again.

Between the two id still say soft play for 6/7year olds though

Boobiliboobiliboo · 29/09/2019 21:00

7th and 8th birthdays were at a trampolining place (with pizza both times) and this time is bowling followed by an Italian meal (so probably pizza!).

Go for something with pizza. You clearly won’t go far wrong with that!

Waveysnail · 29/09/2019 21:01

Also depends if you have type of class where parents stay. Some in class will have only turned 6 in August so still quite young.

Dandelion1993 · 29/09/2019 21:01

We've been to the pizza express one and it was great. The kids loved it.

We've also been to parties at:

Potter painting
Local farm
Soft play
People's homes
Local hall.

They won't care what they're doing, they'll just care that it's with friends.

aibutohavethisusername · 29/09/2019 21:03

When my DD was younger they did a Pizza Hut one and it was great. Although make sure they don’t have too many fizzy drinks!

Clangus00 · 29/09/2019 21:04

Is she not a bit old for soft play at 7?
Pizza express sounds fine to me.

Lovewineandchocs · 29/09/2019 21:04

We did Pizza Express for my DS for his 7th birthday party, about 30 kids and it was great and stress-free. The chef kept the kids entertained throughout showing them how to make the pizza, they did party games as well, and by the time the pizza and cake had been eaten and party bags given out, the two hours went surprisingly quickly.
My DN for her 7th birthday went to a soft play place which offered an hour’s play, 45 mins for food then 30 mins disco and party games, which was something different from just the standard soft play.

pancaketits · 29/09/2019 21:05

My son had a Pizza Express party, him and all the kids loved it. Make a pizza, a few games, eat the food then go! Parents loved it as it was over by 11am so didn't mean the whole of the day was based around a party.

Rockbird · 29/09/2019 21:06

Both my dds had Pizza Express birthday parties for their 7th. It was the perfect age. They were kept occupied the whole time and they loved it. And PE staff do everything! I just sat and drank coffee Grin

thatoldpinkumbrella · 29/09/2019 21:07

I would go for the soft play, purely based on the fact that it might be the last year they are young enough for one - whilst you have a few years of Pizza Express parties in front of you.

Straycatstrut · 29/09/2019 21:17

Ds is 7 and gets very bored of soft plays but can play in the trampoline parks for hours!

He's not 8 until next summer now but is already asking for a swimming party! (heard they cost a bomb!)

Secretbadlife · 29/09/2019 21:24

Do you have a trampoline place nearby? If so then that and then macs afterwards perhaps?
