Birthday party choices wwyd

My dd will be 7 years old in Nov and would like a birthday party she'll be in year 2 of primary school.

Looking for advice!

The husband thinks we should book a soft play party but I think we should have a pizza Express make your own pizza or a pizza hut party.

He thinks no one would come to the pizza Express ones as parents are "fussy and want kids to have fun".

All the parties so far that shes been to have been the same soft play type places.

Aibu for wanting to book a pizza Express kid's party??

What would you think if you recieved an invite would your child want to attend?

Trampolining, roller skating, pamper party, swimming, horse riding, local farm there's all sorts of parties for them when they've got past soft play. What's your daughter into that'd be my starting point - and doesn't matter if other parents aren't happy (although my guess would be they'll be thankful for not another soft play) its your daughters happiness that counts.

I think 7 is getting a bit old for soft play, but it also be worried about a party where the kids don't get to have a run around. You will know the kids though. I agree that a trampoline place would be ideal.

DD was def bores of soft play at that age. For her 7th we went horse riding but she was into riding anyway.

Other popular ones were trampoline, forest school (May not the best on late autum) cupcake baking/chocolate making/ cooking.

The thing with pizza express is there isn’t much for them to do one the pizzas are being made.. one party I went to, well the children cause mayhem for 40 mins while they waiting for their lunch.

Trampolining is good. You can get a deal on groupon sometimes

Been to both softplay and pizza this year for same age group. Daughter still preferred the softplay. Pizza she enjoyed but it was a bit old for them, they aren't into sitting and talking really more running and jumping still.

I am 😱 at the idea that 7 is too old for soft play! Certainly not round here.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/09/2019 22:11

I’m voting for soft play- I think pizza express would still be good in years to come, soft play not so much.
Ultimately does it depend how many kids you want to invite, PE is a smaller group?

My kids stopped getting asked to soft play parties after the age of 4. I think if it was one of those really giant ones with drop slides and things then maybe, but otherwise they are a bit old for it at 6/7. Trampoline park, or even just a bouncy castle in a hall with some old fashioned party games thrown in. Disco party, trip to the cinema or bowling and a meal, climbing wall...they’re the sort of parties 7 yr olds have round our way.

I suspect it all depends on the kind of soft plays you have in your area!

Some might be just suitable for toddlers, but some soft plays here organise adult evening parties! so they are big enough for older kids - until they decide they are too "babyish" Grin

Popular choices at the moment for this age group are cinema followed by chippy dinner.
We went to a village hall party last year where they had a dance teacher come in and show the kids a dance routine-really good fun!! They had someone doing nails at the time.
Last birthday party we did was ds aged 7-bowling that has a soft play in the same part. Had lunch and cake there. My very lovely friend did glitter tattoos on the kids in between go's!!

Definitely too old for soft play imo. DD got invited to a soft play 7th birthday and although she had a good time her 3 year old brother enjoyed it more. Most of the parents were a bit surprised (but didn't say anything) about the choice. Trampolining is much more the done thing round here. DD did a high ropes course for her 7th birthday party and her friends did things like pottery painting, tobogganing or swimming. Pizza Express is fine in theory but my DD is coeliac so wouldn't be able to join in. I would go with what she wants to do and what you think her and her group of friends would enjoy.
