I’ve been in a bad mood for about a week now and the annoying thing is, I don’t know what’s caused it Confused I feel irritable, tired, and like I want to cry. I’ve tried my usual go-tos like a bath, treating myself to something, chocolate, speaking to friends, making social plans... but still I just feel meh. I don’t know what’s up with me.
Please help me shake this off!

Listening to music and exercise. Reading a good book. Putting on my favourite film and eating chocolate.

EssentialHummus · 28/09/2019 19:40

Walk in the fresh air, tasty but healthy meal, cheesy music on loud?

EssentialHummus · 28/09/2019 19:41

Ps - are you affected by the weather turning?

Pomegranateseeds · 28/09/2019 19:41

Only you know (or can find out) what works for you, but other things you could try are fresh air, exercise, change of scene, making fun plans?

PrincessSarene · 28/09/2019 19:43

Hmm, you have tried quite a few things, haven’t you? Smile You could also try more fresh air and plenty of sleep.

Going for a run is the only thing that clears my mind and I am far from a good or regular runner. More of a stop/start catch my breathe sort of thing. But I find teamed with some decent music it really helps. Followed by a glass of wine for motivation purposes

7Worfs · 28/09/2019 19:44

Mindless internet browsing, I’m bound to find something to laugh at (like the zebra highlights thread in Style & Beauty)

Playing computer games

bluebeck · 28/09/2019 19:44

I walk on the beach.

Do you have a dog? If not, get a dog, problem solved Grin

Booking a holiday also works well for me...

gamerchick · 28/09/2019 19:44

Exercise. The type that makes you sit on the toilet carefully the next day. Always lifts my mood. Or a decent chunk of cardio will do.

bettycat81 · 28/09/2019 19:45

At this time of the year vitamin supplements! Also a good tidy up - tidy home, tidy mind and all that biz. Even if I just do one little area i start to feel better.

I'm not a clean freak, and it often takes a while for me to remember this helps.

WhiskersPete · 28/09/2019 19:45

SSRIs

HollyBollyBooBoo · 28/09/2019 19:46

Exercise or just something really cathartic like a deep clean, de-cluttering makes my home and mind clearer.

A week feels like a long time to be in just a grumpy mood though. Is it something else?

fitzbilly · 28/09/2019 19:46

Running, or any exercise always helps.

Talking to my mum on the phone.

Buying my kids something nice.

Iron supplements and a good night's sleep.

Pinkblueberry · 28/09/2019 19:47

Fresh air. Or learn a new skill - something random with an easy YouTube tutorial (I tried crocheting a while ago. It’s a great way to distract and lift your brain into a better mood I think - the learning I mean, not necessarily crocheting. Maybe Origami or a new language or something...)

FairyAnn · 28/09/2019 19:48

Sounds similar to me a few years ago. Have you ever been tested for a Vitamin D deficiency? Lidl do a cheap bottle for less than £1 ☺️

In regards to mood lifting; walks, petting dogs, bubble baths, good books, sitting by a log fire, Scala FM, and fresh bedding 😁

Missmummy88 · 28/09/2019 19:48

Reduce caffeine intake drastically

SlightlyWizened · 28/09/2019 19:53

HRT
Or, if you're not at that stage-music and dancing around the living room.
A project such as craft or a painting or decorating you've been putting off.

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 28/09/2019 19:53

Reading Jack Kornfield books
Nice massage or facial
Spending time with animals

SlightlyWizened · 28/09/2019 19:54

Gardening.

mendokusai · 28/09/2019 19:55

cheesy uptempo music
exercise
silly animal videos on Youtube

I never want to do any of these when I'm really low but they do work even if just for a few hours.

LoonyLunaLoo · 28/09/2019 20:10

St John’s Wort
Berocca (or supermarket equivalent)
High dose Vitamin D and Magnesium
Iron

LoonyLunaLoo · 28/09/2019 20:10

Oh and exercise.

NaviSprite · 28/09/2019 20:30

Smiling - even if I don’t feel up to it I try to find something that genuinely makes me smile, even if it’s a daft cat video on YouTube or one of those cheesy uplifting life story things... anything that usually gets you smiling.

My usuals are (as well as the above mentioned):

Stand up comedy - something new if I’m feeling low as I don’t like to watch something I know because I know I’ll just be miserable about knowing what comes next

Disney movies - one of the few happy childhood memories I have is getting to watch a Disney animated movie

Horror movies (if you’re not scared by them) - I haven’t been scared by a horror movie in years so I generally find myself laughing at them or finding them so crap that they’re brilliant if that makes sense?

Apart from that what other PP have said, excercise in whatever shape or form it might take, try to get out and about at least once a day, learn a new skill or put an old one to practice if you haven’t done it in a while.

If I’m drained mentally (massive introvert so happens easily) I wait until my toddlers and DH are asleep and lose myself in a video game or some really good music.

Most of all try not to beat yourself up for being a bit grumpy at the moment, if you find it happens around this time most years maybe some Vit D supplements as a PP suggested?

I also find watching grumpy comedians great when I’m in a meh sort of mood - but that’s just my taste in humour I suppose :)

ermwhatda · 28/09/2019 20:32

masturbation: it's surprising how good you feel after you've given yourself a seeing to! Quick and cheap, too!

redchocolatebutton · 28/09/2019 20:34

go outside
walk in the park
somewhere with a bit of green around
