I’ve been in a bad mood for about a week now and the annoying thing is, I don’t know what’s caused it Confused I feel irritable, tired, and like I want to cry. I’ve tried my usual go-tos like a bath, treating myself to something, chocolate, speaking to friends, making social plans... but still I just feel meh. I don’t know what’s up with me.
Please help me shake this off!

I've been feeling the same and also cannot put my finger on why except the seasons changing maybe.

I immerse myself in a book, something with a great story or an audio drama. Too much time in my own head is generally bad.

I second getting a dog but that might be a bit drastic. Borrow a dog?

Gardening
Cooking
Exercise outdoors
Netflix- I watched a load of Schitt’s Creek when feeling a bit grey and it cheered me up.

Having a good clean of something I've been putting off, or a good clear out or similar job followed my a good bath or nice meal. Not too much time on phone. Talking to friends. Exercise. A nice treat or two e g even a decent coffee. Arrange something good for the future.

Give the news a miss for a bit. Early to bed and early to rise helps me. Ban the screens before bed if you can. I think internet use (excessive) makes me down. Light-hearted books, series or films in a tidy living room with an expensive scented candle help me. Brazil nuts are meant to help low mood. Dark chocolate covered brazil nuts? Grin I find laying off the junk food helps too. I feel dark and low frequently but don't feel my symptoms are severe enough to qualify for depression.

Kittenbittenmitten · 28/09/2019 20:39

Oh yes and making sure I get out, either to town or a green space.

Walking my dogs, riding my horse, spending time with my family, meeting up with friends, reading a good book, counting my blessings and realising how great my life is, getting enough sleep.

A walk in the woods or on the beach
A counselling session
A 10 second hug

When I'm heading into a bad place I do a daily gratitude thing. So before bed (usually while cleaning my teeth), I think about the day and try to think of the nicest thing anyone did for me (stranger smiled, someone on bus moved to help me get the buggy on, a nice reply on Mumsnet! Etc), the nicest thing I did for anyone else (made DH a cup of tea, ran an errand for a friend etc), and the happiest moment (seeing my toddler smile etc).

It doesn't seem like much, but it helps me keep all the good stuff in life from being drowned out in all the work/stress/hard bits.

I get like this sometimes when I’ve eaten something that hasn’t agreed with me - something to do with stomach bacteria being linked to mental health. I find something like yakult, pro biotic yog etc can help plus a good does of fresh air and exercise.

By listening to this

Another vote for exercise.

For me it's got to be something that has me near cardiatic arrest, like body attack or metafit or lifting some heavy things.

Never have went to gym or a class and came back feeling shit.

Also plenty of sleep and drinking more water.

1onelyranger · 28/09/2019 21:54

Sometimes you just have to sit with the sadness.

A walk outside always helps me though.

Lifeisabeach09 · 28/09/2019 21:58

Dance, watch funny movies and read. I try to avoid sad movies and books as I dwell on them.

LuisaKelmen · 28/09/2019 22:00

Good night sleep
Gardening
Good laugh
Cuddling with my kids
Make somebody else happy
Generally fresh air and sun spells
