Toddlers in dog baskets!?!!

ohwellherewegoagain · 27/09/2019 20:55

OK so here's the thing. DD's nursery has new daytime sleeping beds for the little ones. Big baskets they can crawl into. I swear they are dog baskets, my aunt has one just the same. AIBU to be a bit horrified? Surely there are different safety standards for kids and pet sleepers? I haven't said anything so far as DD's nursery were a bit defensive when I asked what they were, and they said they were baby sleepers. WWYD? Help, just feel a bit weirded out by it.

I'm not really sure what you mean. Could you google a similar thing and link it?

Vulpine · 27/09/2019 21:01

Sounds fine. Where's the harm

DNAwrangler · 27/09/2019 21:03

Ours has similar. I thought it was a good idea actually, they cant fall/roll out of them!

mygrandchildrenrock · 27/09/2019 21:04

I called them dog baskets to our local authority adviser and she got very cross with me!
They do look like dog baskets but they are baby/toddler baskets and conform properly to health and safety regulations.

ChildminderMum · 27/09/2019 21:05

They are called "Dream Coracles" and they cost a fortune.

Thehop · 27/09/2019 21:05

They’re sleeping pods. We have them, they’re designed for babies and ridiculously expensive. As are the mattresses for them.

Pringlesfortea · 27/09/2019 21:07

How is it hygienic if they just crawl in any one ..then crawl out and dribble on another one ,and so on ...how often are they washed

ohwellherewegoagain · 27/09/2019 21:10

OK everyone I understand what you're saying and conceptually they're very similar but it looks exactly like this (except cushion is green not brown) www.prestigewicker.co.uk/collections/pets/products/wicker-dog-basket-dark-cushion

OP posts:
ChildminderMum · 27/09/2019 21:11

If they're wicker then maybe they are just dog baskets.

yetanothernane · 27/09/2019 21:11

I saw a nursery and they had 'giant bean bags' in the library area
They were actually dog beds (they had cartoon dogs and bones all over them). Our dog had exactly the same one from the cheap shop in the town.

yearinyearout · 27/09/2019 21:12

As long as they haven't been bought second hand and covered in dog hair what's the problem?

ohwellherewegoagain · 27/09/2019 21:13

Thanks for the link. It's definitely not a dream coracle.

Erm ... several small children have played/slept in my dog's bed.
What extra safety device would a large, floor level dogbed need?

yetanothernane · 27/09/2019 21:14

If they are what you have linked I wouldn't let my child sleep in that. It's not designed for children, also why should a child curl up like a dog to fit in one. I can't imagine them being very comfy either.

OctopusNow · 27/09/2019 21:14

Fair enough. My toddler loves those metal dog crates, I'm always kind of tempted to get one.... Grin

He did a have squeaky dog toy as a baby though, he loved that thing!

WheresTheEvidence · 27/09/2019 21:15

I work in a nursery where the children lie on thin little mats on the floor of a sleep room. I see no problem with those.

DartmoorDoughnut · 27/09/2019 21:16

Meh, if it’s new and designed so that a dog can’t destroy it I’d reckon it’s pretty safe for kids tbh Grin

ohwellherewegoagain · 27/09/2019 21:17

The bed is quite big, but I am worried if the mattress is for pets it won't conform to the relevant British standards for suffocation, that was my concern

Thehop · 27/09/2019 21:18

These are ours. They’re actually wooden. Apologies, I don’t work in the baby room. I’m banned, I get too broody 😂

RedHelenB · 27/09/2019 21:18

Isnt there a programme on tv about training children like you'd train your dogs. It s obviously the next step.

Claphands · 27/09/2019 21:18

My nursery has one for the toddlers who want to cosy up whilst in the main room, can’t see the issue-i thought about getting one but doubt she’d use it at home.

RightYesButNo · 27/09/2019 21:18

If it’s like the OP linked and wicker with only a partially open side lip like the one OP has shown, it’s definitely not a “Dream Coracle.” The whole point of those super expensive dream coracle things is a baby can crawl in the end but not fall out the sides. What OP’s shown totally negates that. If it’s got an open side lip, I’d assume it’s a dog bed, too.

CTRL · 27/09/2019 21:18

Lol
Sorry but that seems hilarious.

Honestly as long as the beds are clean and the kids are unharmed - I don’t see the problem. 🤷‍♀️

Lelly0503 · 27/09/2019 21:19

My DSs nursery has (clean) dog toys for them! They said they brilliant teething toys. They also have dog baskets set up and they said often the kids crawl into them and fall asleep. I have no problem with it 🤷🏻‍♀️
