To not answer phone calls from “No Caller ID”?

EmAreSea · 26/09/2019 19:47

I’ve just had my 4th “No Caller ID” call today... DH saw me ignore the call and asked why I didn’t answer, I just said I never answer those calls and if it’s something important whoever it is will leave a voicemail which I’ll listen to and call back if necessary. Otherwise I just assume it’s a cold call or a robot and ignore it.

DH thinks I’m weird. Am I weird? Do other people have this policy?

No, because it’s usually the hospital or GP and often the won’t leave messages (for security/privacy reasons)

TinyMystery · 26/09/2019 19:49

I always answer no caller ID calls as it’s usually the hospital/GP/health visitor or work (work for the NHS). I’d imagine the police are no caller ID as well.

I don’t answer random numbers usually though.

Passthecherrycoke · 26/09/2019 19:49

I never answer them

DuesToTheDirt · 26/09/2019 19:50

Used to get this for calls from the kids' school, so I couldn't not answer.

Mintypea5 · 26/09/2019 19:50

Usually midwife / hospital for me or work so I answer them but joy after 7pm usually unless I'm expecting a call

redchocolatebutton · 26/09/2019 19:51

same as above
no caller id usually is the gp/hospital or school...
so yes I answer to those calls

valleysareus · 26/09/2019 19:53

I don't answer private numbers either. School and doctors always comes up as a number. If it's important they will leave a voicemail like OP said. Mainly cold callers who ring me withheld.

NarNooNarNoo · 26/09/2019 19:54

I do this as well as get so many random calls. Also do this for bones that show as a mobile number that I don't recognise - I tend to Google the number as well. Fortunately my GP surgery now texts me about appointments, and hospital leaves a message for me to call back for reminders.

AutumnRose1 · 26/09/2019 19:54

I only answer these when I have a parent in hospital.

Oysterbabe · 26/09/2019 19:56

I don't answer my phone unless it's someone I know calling. If they're not saved in my phone they'll have to leave a message.

ShippingNews · 26/09/2019 19:57

I never answer - I hate cold callers and figure ,like you, that if it's a genuine call they'll leave a message.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 26/09/2019 20:00

I don't answer the phone very often, tbh. IMO, it's for my convenience, no-one else's. If I recognise the number, or am expecting a call, fair enough. Otherwise, I 'screen'...

dementedpixie · 26/09/2019 20:03

I dont answer the home phone as its normally a spam caller

negomi90 · 26/09/2019 20:09

I'm healthcare, if I phone from a work phone (which I always do) it will be a withheld number. I never leave a message because if I've called the wrong number or someone's partner answers that would be a breach of confidentiality.
Hospitals call from withheld numbers and don't leave messages.

mrsdolittle · 26/09/2019 20:11

I almost never answer the phone unless I know who it is. Basically anyone I know is programmed into the phone so I can see who is calling. Plus friends and family use my mobile number. The only person who rings my landline is my mum.

Can't bear cold callers.

Sparklybanana · 26/09/2019 20:11

You can always hang up, but I dare say that 4 calls means that someone really wants to get hold of you. Probably the nhs. Cold callers tend to have numbers. Yabu.

Littletabbyocelot · 26/09/2019 20:12

We call from a private number at work. Its so frustrating, we can't leave voicemails and sometimes urgently need to talk to someone (for their benefit, not cold calling) and it's so frustrating. We've even had complaints that people have never been called back when we've made multiple attempts, they just screened their calls!

22Giraffes · 26/09/2019 20:14

I always answer private number as that's how it appears for my hospital and gp surgery. Tbh I am so nosy it kills me when dp screens calls, how do you not want to know who it is?? 😂 I can't bear the not knowing, even if 99.9% of the time it's a cold call Blush

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 26/09/2019 20:17

When I work from home for the local authority I use my personal phone for work calls. The number is witheld.

katseyes7 · 26/09/2019 20:17

My GP's surgery shows as 'Private' when they ring me. Usually with my test results.

BackforGood · 26/09/2019 20:22

I don't know about 'unreasonable', but I think you are a bit daft.

As everyone has explained it is likely to be a hospital / school / GP / medical centre / big public office / university / etc / etc.
They can't leave voicemails in case someone who isn't the person they should be speaking to, picks it up.

I'd have thought by the 4th one of the day, you might realise it is someone trying to contact you specifically and not a robot cold caller.

BenjaminH · 26/09/2019 20:23

I block no id callers,

but as others have said you don't get calls when your med's/doc appointments are ready....

AGermFreeAdolescent · 26/09/2019 20:32

My GP, hospital and dentist ring me on numbers with my local area code, not withheld, so I don't answer no-caller ID numbers anymore as in the past they were always cold callers. They can leave a message if they want, if they are genuine. I also never answer calls from numbers I don't know and as soon as they have stopped ringing, copy and paste it into Google and sure enough, it's been reported multiple times as spam/scam.

Ninkaninus · 26/09/2019 20:35

I don’t answer any calls unless I’m expecting a call from someone whose number I don’t know, or my daughter’s in hospital.

coconuttelegraph · 26/09/2019 20:38

Totally up to you whether you answer the phone even if you know who it is, not compulsory at all
