IrisRuby(?) saw an ad on Facebook, are they a real company?

Using this for traffic: An add for a company called RubyIris or IrisRuby popped up on my facebook last night. They had some gorgeous items on their site, but I can't find the company online if I search outside of fb.

Are they are a real company? AIBU to buy the lovely scarf and gloves I saw or am I going to lose all my money to a scammer who will live like a king on my NHS salary?

I've given up on anything from those FB ads. All the loveliest things are posted by those rogue companies. I try not to look squint cross eyed as I scroll past

toooldforthisshirt37 · 26/09/2019 11:06

The prices were really cheap which made me more suspicious than usual....... raging!

Often such lovely things- I think they read my mind and design just for me!

familycourtq · 26/09/2019 12:22

I have closed and deleted my FB account because of their apparent refusal to abide by ASA rules. All sorts of Ads from companies that don't comply with the most basic UK/EU law and Facebook show zero sign of caring about it.

Also a lot of fake ads showing doctored stills from "news" progs where famous people are apparently extolling the latest bitcoin type investments - all fake.

Martin Lewis had to take them to court before they'd act on all the scam ads using his picture.

And Nick Clegg is their PR spin doctor.

Just no.

Is your Google broken? Grin

ishouldhavestucktocats · 26/09/2019 12:30

Yes, I too have thought 'ooh these are lovely things!' There seem to be several names for the company and they sell the same stuff and their blurb is the same I spent a while trying to find out where they were but couldn't

I would be interested to know?

chemicalelephant · 26/09/2019 12:34

It's not real. You can tell by Google image searching some of their items. They show up for more money on other retailers pages. You can also tell because all of their pictures have different lighting/background/aesthetics etc. There's loads of these companies. They steal pictures from other clothing designers and manufacturers, advertise them cheaply, and then send out terrible copies made from shit fabrics in a sweatshop that may or may not resemble the thing you ordered.

chemicalelephant · 26/09/2019 12:38

Eg this is a dragon scarf handfelted by someone on etsy. The exact same photo is on the irisruby website.

Every Facebook business page now has a transparency button, if you use this you’ll see where they’re based, how long they’ve been on Facebook etc.

Shantotto · 26/09/2019 12:41

Super dodgy website! And the prices are just way too cheap. Dodgy knock offs for sure. I’m surprised people still fall for it, but then I’d never use wish or Ali express etc and they seem hugely popular. 🤷‍♀️

This is not easy to read - very stilted language but...

chemicalelephant · 26/09/2019 12:53

irisruby.com/collections/scarf/products/tribal-casual-gloves-mittens

And these are a picture stolen from a knitting pattern. There's no way anybody can reproduce that quality of hand knitting for that price.

Goawayquickly · 26/09/2019 12:53

@ishouldhavestucktocats they’re in China as I showed above. There are lots of dodgy ads on Facebook and they’re nearly all China based which luckily is very easy to check now

wetpants · 26/09/2019 13:25

I recently saw a Wish add on FB, rotating home decor items. Some of them were stolen pics from Etsy, all intellectual property of small handmade businesses. (I recognised them being an Etsy seller myself)

One was a gorgeous wreath, advertised as costing £1, the real thing at Etsy is £85. I’d love to see what actually turns up if you order it through Wish..

Pipandmum · 28/09/2019 19:26

I’m a wet felter and when I saw the ads I thought no way is this genuine. Those items would take hours and hours to make. But I’ve screen grabbed a few for project ideas!

RightYesButNo · 28/09/2019 19:34

DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR MONEY. Like all these companies that advertise on FB with super low prices, they steal photos from other companies and either you will receive nothing or you will receive a very badly made product which you will be unable to return because it is almost 100% from mainland China. Rosegal, Dresslily, now this Irisruby - on and on, they could make up a new company with stolen photos every day of the week and not get “caught” because they don’t have to conform to US/EU laws and Facebook refuses to crack down.

Here’s a GREAT Facebook page about what you will get if you order from any of these pages on Facebook and I’m happy to link plenty of news articles as well, I’d you’d like to read more. ALWAYS reverse-search an image if it looks too good to be true for too little money.
m.facebook.com/ifitstoogoodtobetrue/

If you can show the exact products you’re considering, OP, we can probably show how they come from somewhere else, NOT IrisRuby.

Sorry!

ELLAYNE · 13/10/2019 10:53

So glad I read this! I’m not usually taken in but such lovely stuff! I was trying to find out where I would have to return to if it wasn’t all that when it arrived, but couldn’t. 😡

Leflic · 15/10/2019 20:49

So how do we find the real suppliers of these send items? Instead of me spending more wasted hours in tinternet land.

Itsallgonewoowoo · 15/10/2019 21:21

I've got quite a few of my best work tops from dresslily. I was wary but they've arrived fast and generally been nice, perhaps I've been lucky. Ordered a few times from them.

nevermorelenore · 15/10/2019 21:31

You can sometimes find an item by doing a reverse image search. Although it’s often stuff from previous seasons or items from Etsy that are now sold out.

There’s quite a few red flags on that site. Weirdly random discounts, no physical address, and photos of models with the heads cropped.

PegasusReturns · 15/10/2019 21:40

What a pity I cannot order this interesting winter hat...

@toooldforthisshirt37 oh dear, looks as if I have been scammed. The payment I made to irisruby comes up on my credit card statement as CHICV. HONG KONG. HKG on 12th October. Nothing received yet. It says 10-20 days so that runs out tomorrow.

RightYesButNo · 31/10/2019 19:59

@RuthP68 I’m so sorry to hear that. Here’s a running page from PayPal customers who have been fleeced by this company, to get you more information that you may need to file a credit card dispute, even if you didn’t use PayPal (obviously these people are looking to file PayPal disputes, but lots of info may still be relevant).

RightYesButNo · 31/10/2019 20:06

@PegasusReturns I did a search, just out of interest, and here is the maker of that actual hat. Amazing that IrisRuby can sell it for £15, since the real maker sells her custom made hats for £350+ and they’re each one of a kind. These sites are SUCH scams.
