AIBU not to take toddler to A&E?

So sorry for posting here right now but in a bit of a pickle right now.

An hour and a half ago DD 2 bumped her head against a sharp corner table. She cried for few minutes but calmed down after dummy/cuddle. We were leaving DHs cousin's house at the time to go back home. As soon as we sat in the car,she slept almost immediately until our ride back home which is about 8mins away. She seemed highly lethargic when Dh took her out of carseat and brought her up to her cot.. almost seemed unconscious but she wasn't. she was very sleepy and snoring. She had a big egg on the place she bumped her head.
I started googling about concussions in toddlers etc and now panicking. Dh tried to wake her up in vain for 10mins until he put a cold pack of peas on her bump then she woke up screaming.
She been playing with her toys since and fell asleep just now again.
Is there anyone to help me calm down and tell me whether I am being unreasonable not to take her due to risk of concussion/more serious issues.

TIA.

I would take her. A difficult to rouse, lethargic child after a head bump should be seen imo

Neverender · 23/09/2019 21:49

Only you know your child - no one here can tell you what to do.

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 23/09/2019 21:50

Better safe than sorry. Sure she’ll be fine but maybe worth checking. Phone 111 or whatever the number is maybe first?

Stripes66 · 23/09/2019 21:50

Take her to A and E.
I’m a very chilled out parent but if you couldn’t wake her up after a head bump, you should absolutely take her in.

PurpleDaisies · 23/09/2019 21:51

You would be better phoning 111 or your out of hours GP for medical advice.

ImpossibleGirl · 23/09/2019 21:52

Maybe call 111. They can help to assess her over the phone and they'll also let you know what to keep an eye out for.

If you don't take her, don't plan on getting much sleep whilst you and DH tag team to watch her.

Quartz2208 · 23/09/2019 21:52

Yes you need to take her to be honest with that set of symptoms

Littlechocola · 23/09/2019 21:52

Take her

MrsElizabethShelby · 23/09/2019 21:52

Op trust your instincts. Go to a&e, they will want to see her.

Shehz21 · 23/09/2019 21:53

Thank you everyone!

@Stripes66 I would say I am quite a chilled parent too but there was something about how lethargic she seemed that wasn't sitting right with me.

Sorry didn't mean for this to be a dripfeed, thought she was asleep but she's just rolling around in her cot and playing with her bunny.

Yep I would take her to A&E, always better to be on the safe side.

I’m sure she’s fine however, you’ll feel much better having her looked over properly and your mind being put to rest.

MrsMozartMkII · 23/09/2019 21:55

A&E.

Stripes66 · 23/09/2019 21:56

At least you know them that you’ve had her checked. My mum was a nurse for years and I know she’d say the same x

EL8888 · 23/09/2019 21:57

Another vote to take her. I’m sure she will be fine but she is quite young and her being lethargic is making me unhappy

Moonflower12 · 23/09/2019 21:58

A and E- just read this to DP. He's a paramedic and said take her. If something is off - get it checked out.
I'm sure it's fine but better safe than sorry x

Dontcarewhatimdoing · 23/09/2019 21:58

No one in A&E will mind checking a toddler with a head injury. Take her to get properly checked.

IsobelRae23 · 23/09/2019 22:00

Get her checked

doadeer · 23/09/2019 22:00

I called 111 recently following a baby head bump and they will just tell you to go to A&E they will never risk it with a young child. We were kept in for 3 hours for monitoring so take snacks and toys, and a blanket!

Aridane · 23/09/2019 22:00

Only you know your child - no one here can tell you what to do

I disagree.

It’s not a case of knowing your child - OP has described at least one factor that NHS / other children’s health websites advise as requiring immediate medical attention.

Phone 111

SinkGirl · 23/09/2019 22:02

My twins bump their heads all the time, they are obsessive climbers. I spoke to their paediatrician about this and said I was never sure whether they needed seeing or not.

She said that obviously concussion or something more serious is a brain injury, so if their brain is injured then it will show in how they behave - high pitched unusual crying, lethargy or drowsiness, off balance / dizzy, head pain, something will be off. So now if they bang their head I watch how they’re acting.

If one of them hit their head and they were lethargic, I’d go to A&E.

I’ve only had to take one of mine to A&E when he tripped and cut his eyebrow open - we’ve been lucky given how often they fall. But I would definitely go for this. IME doctors are always happy to see little ones if you’re really worried.

MrsKCastle · 23/09/2019 22:03

The lethargy would worry me, and even more so, the fact that her dad couldn't easily wake her. It's definitely worth getting her checked over, for your peace of mind if nothing else.

Shehz21 · 23/09/2019 22:04

On our way to A&E now. I'm feeling so stupid not to have taken her right awaySad

Bourbonbiccy · 23/09/2019 22:05

My Son has bumped his head many times and no I haven't taken him to A&E, however with what you describe with drowsy, hard to rouse. Yes I would take him just to be safe and I am a chilled out parent.

Wolfiefan · 23/09/2019 22:05

You’re not stupid at all. Good luck OP.

Stripes66 · 23/09/2019 22:06

You’re taking her now so don’t feel bad. You reached out because you were concerned. I hope she’s ok xx
