To leave my job with one week notice

I have been at my job for just under 6 months and am still in the probation period, I’ve read my contract and I only have to give one weeks notice, which I did today as I have a new job . The reason I’m leaving is because there has been an affair going on between the boss and the woman I work with ( very small company only 6 of us) this has been brought into the work place , they have involved me ( one of the pair had another affair behind the others back , told me about it, I had to pretend I knew nothing about it, then that person (boss) found out and quizzed me , anyway it’s been intolerable.

The person that had another affair behind the bosses back was asked to leave and goes this week. Me resigning leaves them up the creek and they have said I have to give 2 weeks notice. My new company wants me to start on Monday along with another new person and I would like to start on the same day as they are.
AIBU to not work 2 weeks notice as they are asking?

They're using you as a scape goat for their own shortcomings.

You should feel safe and secure at work. If it were me, tomorrow I'd tie up any loose ends first thing, pack away any personal bits, and be ready to go home if they are less than professional decent human beings.

Thus is all them. It is not you. Keep your shine if your new job. Don't let this lots stupidity spoil it for you.

Ignore their bad attitude. How dare they. You have done nothing wrong and they are atrocious managers and employers.
Use the next three days as a learning experience. Atmosphere is terrible? It’s their own fucking fault. Pretend you are surrounded by armour and their nastiness is just sliding off it. Give yourself a treat each night. Wednesday, favourite movie; Thursday, something nice to eat; Friday night you’re FREE!!! Do a happy dance, have fun, look forward to your new job!!!

Thank you for the kind words, this has shaken me more than it should. The 2 bosses and the person that one of them had an affair with who then did the dirty on him behind his back have been all pally pally today, lots of joking and laughing together. I felt like reminding them that it wasn’t me who was shagging around !

Have you any annual leave accrued that you can use during the notice?

Beautiful3 · 24/09/2019 19:36

Good luck with your new job op. Forget about your old job, you'll never see them again anyhow.

ScoobyCan · 24/09/2019 19:38

Pack up your belongings tomorrow morning and leave. The environment isn't sustainable and you'll go crazy from all the passive aggressive mind games they'll play. Get a doctor to sign you off if needs be. Do you really need 3 days pay if you are going to end up an emotional wreck come Friday?

Good luck @Candle

Idontwanttotalk · 24/09/2019 19:43

Hang on in there OP. I presume you showed them your contract so they are probably angry at themselves for messing up.

Just keep your focus on doing a good job this week and then you can get all excited on Friday and over the weekend about your new job.

You are too good for the type of people there that you are having to put up with.

Roll on Friday. Onwards and upwards.

Back up/copy/forward as many emails as you can just in case. The same thing with any files you may need to put together a portfolio of your work. Do this tonight so you can be ready tomorrow if they won’t let you past the threshold of the door to get anything.

Candle1000 · 25/09/2019 07:43

I think I might have some annual leave! I had 12 days allocated when I started , I’ve been there 6 months and only taken 2 days leave so far. Does that mean I have some left ? Confused

Yes. And they need to pay it - ask HR for the calculation of your final payslip taking into account accrued holiday. Congrats on the new job

Candle1000 · 25/09/2019 07:55

We don’t have HR - the boss that had the affair does hr stuff and he’s not speaking to me!

Send him an email saying that you know you have annual leave accrued and would like confirmation of the amount and what you'll receive in your final payslip. You don't have to talk to him. Just do your job and ignore the unprofessional manager/other staff.
