To use the child benefit payment as my grocery budget?

Would it be unreasonable to use my child benefit as my grocery budget for all 4 of us??
We get 280 per month so in a 4 week month that’s 70 per week, which is my average weekly spend! Or should I assign to to something more child specific?does it really matter?

Oh sorry 🙄 just seen that I cross posted umpteen pp.

22Giraffes · 23/09/2019 20:13

Glad you clarified that, I have 2 kids and was starting to feel sorry for myself with £137 a month! Grin

AloeVeraLynn · 23/09/2019 20:14

Blimey.

GunpowderGelatine · 23/09/2019 20:14

If you're in Ireland wouldn't be use € not £?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 23/09/2019 20:14

Do you mean child tax credits OP? I get £34.40 child’s benefit per week for 2 DC.

iwillsoiwill · 23/09/2019 20:14

@AnotherEmma as I said I thought I had...and anyway there are plenty of ppl on here NOT from the uk!!

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 23/09/2019 20:14

Child benefit is:

Eldest or only child £20.70
Additional children £13.70 per child

So that's £34.40 per week for 2 so £137.60 every 4 weeks

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 23/09/2019 20:15

Xpost.

GunpowderGelatine · 23/09/2019 20:15

My apologies you didn't actually use a £ sign!

iwillsoiwill · 23/09/2019 20:15

Yes €, I never said £

italianfiat · 23/09/2019 20:15

May be if you added the currency rather then just a number in the OP people wouldn't have been so quick to assume you are in the uk.

I don't know why you need to separately budget CB money fro food shopping because you get it at a different time of the month to your wages. It's just money, it goes in just like your wages and you spend as and when required.

italianfiat · 23/09/2019 20:16

Obviously cross posted

dementedpixie · 23/09/2019 20:16

Sorry I xposted too. Yes it's fine to use it for food

AnotherEmma · 23/09/2019 20:17

"anyway there are plenty of ppl on here NOT from the uk!!"

Hmm let's see if you post on a UK-based website with a majority of users who live in the UK and mention a benefit which exists in the UK and give figures in pounds sterling... you can't really blame people for assuming that you live in the UK.

Just tell us you're in Ireland and/or use € to show the correct currency and we're grand.

WrongKindOfFace · 23/09/2019 20:17

That’s literally what it’s for. Why wouldn’t you use it for a child related expense such as feeding them?

iwillsoiwill · 23/09/2019 20:17

I REALLY thought I had said I was in Ireland...sorry for confusion. 🤣

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 23/09/2019 20:17

Tbf you never used any currency symbol

AnotherEmma · 23/09/2019 20:18

Sorry loads of cross posts
You didn't use £ at all, my bad on that

AnotherEmma · 23/09/2019 20:20

However loads of people replied querying the amount and they used £, you replied to them without correcting them and clarifying that it was €

Anyway at least we know now Grin

iwillsoiwill · 23/09/2019 20:21

So now I’M the one asking questions?? Is it really 137.50 for TWO in uk?Shocki always thought uk and Ireland would’ve been similar!!

OP posts:
AnotherEmma · 23/09/2019 20:22

Nope whole different country Grin

iwillsoiwill · 23/09/2019 20:22

@AnotherEmma they came thick and fast 😂 that’s when I went back to my OP and realized I had forgotten to say I was Ireland 😬
