To use the child benefit payment as my grocery budget?

iwillsoiwill · 23/09/2019 19:53

Would it be unreasonable to use my child benefit as my grocery budget for all 4 of us??
We get 280 per month so in a 4 week month that’s 70 per week, which is my average weekly spend! Or should I assign to to something more child specific?does it really matter?

Why do you get £280 if you only have two children?

BananaSpanner · 23/09/2019 20:08

It’s £139 or something for 2 kids surely? ConfusedHmm

iwillsoiwill · 23/09/2019 20:08

No,I do spend approx 70 a week on grocery’s don’t see how that is a stealth boast? I would consider that a low budget.

I got 247 for 4 and now 192 for 3 now my eldest is 18!! So how do you get £280 or is that tax credits too.
I spend £60 a week for food in Aldi as I’m on a strict budget

AnotherEmma · 23/09/2019 20:09

Do you get child tax credits? Are you getting it confused with child benefit?

bobstersmum · 23/09/2019 20:09

How are you getting 280? I have 3 dc and get just less than 200.

Roozy123 · 23/09/2019 20:09

I have 2 kids and get about 130pm CB. I didn't realise other people with 2 kids got more

TheJoxter · 23/09/2019 20:10

70 a week for 2 kids?? I’ve got two kids and claiming highest amount, I get just under £35 a week

AloeVeraLynn · 23/09/2019 20:10

Do you mean child tax op?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 23/09/2019 20:10

What does it matter? If it costs £70 a week to buy the groceries it doesn’t matter where it comes from, does it? You have to buy the groceries either way whether the child benefit added up to the same amount or not. It’s all coming out of the family pot isn’t it?

TheJoxter · 23/09/2019 20:10

But of course spending it on groceries is fine

iwillsoiwill · 23/09/2019 20:10

No I get 280 a month!! I am not in UK just re read my OP I thought I had said that...Soz for confusion.

OP posts:
AnotherEmma · 23/09/2019 20:10

No it's the same for everyone with 2 children, £34.40/week. Paid every 4 weeks so £137.60.

£140 per child?!

Yaflamingalah · 23/09/2019 20:11

If I were you I’d be very worried that you’re getting more than double your CB entitlement. That should eclipse any issue about spending it on groceries.

AnotherEmma · 23/09/2019 20:11

Not in the UK?!
🙄

loveisanopensore · 23/09/2019 20:11

Maybe in Ireland? €140 per child.

NoSquirrels · 23/09/2019 20:11

OP isn’t in the UK...

iwillsoiwill · 23/09/2019 20:12

Yes Ireland

OP posts:
Imnotbent · 23/09/2019 20:12

All 4 of you is that 2 kids and 2 adults, that’s not £70 a week child benefit?

Butterymuffin · 23/09/2019 20:12

What No Squirrels said. It's about your food budget. Just ask yourself if that is reasonable.

iwillsoiwill · 23/09/2019 20:12

Sorry 😐 I really thought I had put that in my op...I must’ve got distracted before I posted.

AnotherEmma · 23/09/2019 20:13

Yaflamingalah · 23/09/2019 20:13
