To hate sweetcorn with a roast!

Lovely roast pork, perfect roast potatoes, lovely roasted carrots and nice savory cabbage. Why would you ruin that with sweetcorn?

Sweetcorn goes in salad, with tuna mayo, corn on the cob with lovely bbq chicken. It doesn't go on a roast to taint the other food.

Dp has ruined my roast dinner dramatic

It's so nice with gravy and decent roast potatoes though! @spanglydangly !

Blackdog19 · 22/09/2019 17:53

I love red cabbage with a roast!!

spanglydangly · 22/09/2019 17:53

@TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble I'm sorry we just can't be friends!

CatsOnCatnip · 22/09/2019 17:54

YANBU. I’ve had this discussion before. Not acceptable.

Grumpbum123 · 22/09/2019 17:54

Roasted peppers and courgettes is all kind of wrong with a roast. Could cope with sweet corn.

AuntieMarys · 22/09/2019 17:56

Swede. Turnips.
The absolute bollocks

@Fizzypoo
Sorry you are wrong.
Cauliflower with a roast, lovely.
Cauliflower cheese with a roast. No. Just no.
Cheese does not belong anywhere near a roast dinner.
I will allow it with gammon, only if the gammon is actually ham. Cold. With maybe a baked potato or something.
Cauliflower cheese with gravy is a sin
Lo, it is written. So shall it be.

I just made a lamb roast. I put the choice of veg to DD and DH and we ended up with creamed leeks, sweet corn and peas Grin

We literally just have whatever veg people fancy. To be fair, I had broccoli and stilton soup instead because I can't face real food at the moment but they both seemed to enjoy it.

Samlew89 · 22/09/2019 18:18

I like sweetcorn with a roast. No one else in my house does though. But I love sweetcorn in general. Saying that I will pretty much eat anything these days

MitziK · 22/09/2019 18:20

I share your pain on a regular basis - and not only is it tinned (not frozen, which tastes much nicer), I have also found soggy cherry tomatoes, almost raw chunks of onion and half cooked peppers concealed underneath the gravy (which is variable in quality from amazing, thick and delicious to vile dirty water) before now. Not to mention the abomination that is a 'roast dinner' that is missing three separate types of fresh vegetable plus potato. The infamous rubber pork chop, cherry tomato and watery gravy piss incident of October 2018 springs to mind here.

Red cabbage goes brilliantly with roast pork and mash, though - especially if you sprinkle some caraway seed into it and roast some apple wedges with the meat for the last few minutes.

Although, at least you've already got to eat. I've been on the point of tears when not well and no food has appeared until after 10pm and then he's suggested that we have pasta, fish fingers (nothing else, just fish fingers) or a single slice of toast. On a Sunday - the Holy Day of Roast Dinner.

Fizzypoo · 22/09/2019 18:23

I feel ungrateful now, DP cooks once or twice a week. We alternate Saturday and Sunday cooking and have a roast every Sunday. Then I get the aftermath taste of tinned sweetcorn in my mouth and remember that he knows I don't like it on a roast.. Biscuit

I like sweetcorn; but it does not belong on a roast! 100% agree with you OP

JellyfishAndShells · 22/09/2019 18:30

Love sweet corn and a traditional roast but not cohabiting- as a PP rightly said, it’s the gravy. Sweet corn and gravy are a no no.

Soozikinzii · 22/09/2019 18:33

Agree 100% why on Earth would anyone put sweetcorn with anything!

CatsOnCatnip · 22/09/2019 19:20

Oh. No... I feel very strongly cauliflower cheese belongs on a roast. And creamed leeks topped with cheese. Omg! And I quite like a bit of Parmesan on a roast parsnip... I’m all for cheese getting all up in my roast. And anywhere, actually.

CremeEggThief · 22/09/2019 19:23

YANBU. The idea of sweetcorn as part of a roast dinner is very unpleasant. Peas are bad enough.

painauchocolat84 · 22/09/2019 19:47

I am currently living in an Asian country where sweet corn is treated like a fruit. I can’t cope with it. You can buy sweet corn ice lilies, sweet corn juice, sweet corn sweets. Uggghhhh.

VerbenaGirl · 22/09/2019 19:51

I have no problem with sweetcorn, but YANBU - it has no place with a traditional roast. We had chorizo chicken with sweet potato today, and sweetcorn did go very well with that - the sweetness against the spicyness. However, I do get offended by sweetcorn in tuna mayo - that’s a big no for me.

Marriedwithchildren5 · 22/09/2019 20:13

Agree! Sweetcorn does not belong on a roast. Cauliflower cheese and red cabbage do. How many carverys serve sweetcorn? There is a reason they dont!
