How long did your nose piercing hurt for?

Had my nose pierced 4 days ago, and it's getting progressively more painful. There's no swelling or redness, but could this be an early sign of an infection? AIBU to go back to the shop and check with them?

About a week. I cleaned it with a cotton ball dipped in cooled boiled water every couple of hours.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 22/09/2019 16:19

About five seconds. As did my Medusa. As soon as the stud was in, I couldn't feel anything.

I'd go back and seek advice. I'm sure it'll all be OK Smile

BrightYellowDaffodil · 22/09/2019 16:20

I'd be going back to the piercers to ask their advice. Mine hurt for a couple of days and it certainly didn't get worse as time went on. Are you cleaning it thoroughly with saline solution and moving the jewellery so it gets inside?

Whatisthisfuckery · 22/09/2019 16:24

I’ve tried to get mine done three times, my nostril just doesn’t want to be pierced.

Each time it’s only hurt for a few days but they take an absolute age to heal.

Best thing I’ve found for piercings, and I have quite a few, is to boil a kettle, then pour some water out into a cup or bowl. Add about 1/4 of a tsp of sea salt. The when the water has cooled enough basically submerge your piercing in it for 3 to 5 minutes. Do it twice a day for a few weeks until the outer layer of skin has healed enough to protect the piercing.

I had a granuloma on mine, which is a big lump where the body tries to over heal. They’re reasonably common in nostril piercings I think. I’ve never been able to keep one in so I’ve given up. I prefer my septum piercing anyway.

MonstranceClock · 22/09/2019 16:24

They said not to use saline solution as it dries the skin out, just keeping it clean with water is fine. It didn't hurt at all when I first had it done, but yesterday and today it's very sore, and it feels tight when trying to turn it.

gun or needle?

MonstranceClock · 22/09/2019 16:25

Gun.

OP posts:
AdobeWanKenobi · 22/09/2019 16:26

And stop turning it. Think of it like a scab on your knee. You wouldn't pick it or play around with it you'd carefully keep it clean and leave it be.

Drogosnextwife · 22/09/2019 16:27

Where did you go that they pierced your nose with a gun?!

AdobeWanKenobi · 22/09/2019 16:28

Gun

There's your issue. Piercings should be done with a needle. The gun has shattered the cartilage and you've quite possibly got the start of a granuloma in reaction to the trauma of the wound.
Leave it alone. If a lump appears at the site of the piercing you're best removing whatever they have put in there (most likely and ear stud) and let it heal. When it's healed go and get it done properly with a needle.

MonstranceClock · 22/09/2019 16:30

Everywhere around here gives you the choice of a gun or a needle.
I'll stop playing with it, I was just turning it as I was worried about it getting stuck.

PawPawNoodle · 22/09/2019 16:30

In this day and age you got your nose pierced with a gun, why?

The backing is probably on too tight and causing pressure. Do not try to move it. Go back to whichever irresponsible and potentially unhygienic piercer that did that to you and have it looked at and taken out

LostStars39 · 22/09/2019 16:33

And definitely use salt water on it, just don’t put too much salt in, better to have a clean piercing and risk having slightly dry skin which you’ll be able to moisturise soon!

LostStars39 · 22/09/2019 16:35

And avoid anywhere that still uses a gun!

Lellochip · 22/09/2019 16:35

What jewellery do you have in it? I'd find a proper body piercer and let them have a look, they'll be able to tell if it's infected or just irritated. And might be able to swap the jewellery for something better

Thankyouplease · 22/09/2019 16:36

Salt and cooled boiled water made into a paste and slathered on will really help

AdobeWanKenobi · 22/09/2019 16:37

Every time you twist it you're aggravating the site. Leave it alone and keep it clean.
Is there a back on the stud? If so as @PolPotNoodle says that won't help.
Personally i'd ditch it and let it heal and start again but thats just me.

AloeVeraLynn · 22/09/2019 16:37

Good god why would you let them pierce your nose with a gun?!
And stop turning it. Leave it completely alone.

MonstranceClock · 22/09/2019 16:37

It's just a stud, they said to wait 2 weeks then come back and they'll change for me to a ring.

OP posts:
AdobeWanKenobi · 22/09/2019 16:39

TWO WEEKS!! You want at least six and then I'd be cautious.

Please find a proper piercer. I'm guessing they were based in a hairdressers? Do not go back there.

MonstranceClock · 22/09/2019 16:40

No they're a piercing studio.

OP posts:
LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 22/09/2019 16:41

Oh gosh a nose should never be pierced with a gun. I would get it looked at because it shouldn't be getting more painful.

I guess they've pierced it with an earring? Is the back on it?

MonstranceClock · 22/09/2019 16:42

No back on it, it's a nose stud.

OP posts:
AdobeWanKenobi · 22/09/2019 16:43

No piercing studio in 2019 should be gun piercing. Thats utterly disgusting.

Please find another studio and see them in person if you can. The place you've been to needs closing down.

raspberryk · 22/09/2019 16:46

You've had some horrendous advice from them, saline is fine as is tea tree or lavender solution made with a carrier oil.
I've always done a combo of the above.
2 weeks is not enough time to heal, more like 8-12 for nose.
Both of my nose piercings have been painful on and off for a while, especially the one I had a stud in, I kept catching it and ripping it out. It didn't heal properly and quit being painful til after i swapped it for a ring 3 months later. I had a ring put straight in the second time and it was healed in 8 weeks. Probably painful on and off for much of that time though.
