A lady on social media made a post about head lice and how she had tried everything and nothing worked!
I gave my advice of how I don't bother with chemicals anymore as it's a waste of money and I just pick them out and I offered to do her hair for free as a kind gesture because let's face it you end up losing the will to live when you've tried everything!

I went round and fortunately found nothing but she mentioned about making a business out of it, I had done some research and found a few company's that charge extortionate rates!

Dd has been back at school a week and already a head lice letter has gone out. So now I'm in bed thinking about giving this 'business' a try! Obviously it will be affordable and i can be mobile, so really I'm asking if this would be a service that you would use for your DC's or a family as a whole or even as a last resort?

No tbh. Pay somebody to pick head lice out of my child's hair, the. Keep paying them when they inevitably keep returning as I'm not sure how you'd be sure to get every single one. No sorry not an idea that would work for me but good luck if you decide to proceed with it

delacruz · 18/09/2019 23:31

@clpsmum thank you for your feedback, I honestly don't know if it's just a crazy idea or it could be something so I really do appreciate it!

I was thinking in maybe doing something like a set price for maybe going in and nit picking then a few days later going back and double checking/removing , then giving advice on maybe how to prevent them or something?

Tahitiitsamagicalplace · 18/09/2019 23:33

Do you mean business venture?Grin

delacruz · 18/09/2019 23:36

@Tahitiitsamagicalplace oh god how did I miss that one? 😂 I blame it on being tired after nit picking 😬😂

bumblebee1987 · 18/09/2019 23:36

No, I wouldn't use a service like this. Sorry!

raisinseverywhere · 18/09/2019 23:36

There’s a woman local to me who does this. Think she uses chemicals as well as combing etc. Not sure how well she does, but I’ve heard a few recommendations for her on Facebook. I do think there’s a market for this.

delacruz · 18/09/2019 23:40

@bumblebee1987 thank you for your opinion Smile

@raisinseverywhere it's not something I would of ever thought of until mentioned tonight, I think I'd be more aimed at the lazy parents who can't be bothered to do their dc's hair so the cycle is never ending. It's definitely something I'd consider doing though providing there was enough interest!

Sorry but this is daft, you would have to always be hoping someone got nits so you have a job...and also nits lay eggs how the fuck are you getting all them out as well?...not duff cost about £7 if that how much are you going to charge to actually make it work? Actually is this a joke?

pinkdelight · 18/09/2019 23:43

How could you guarantee results? Not sure your method is all that cast-iron. Plus how have you had so much experience with nits, if your methods are so effective? Anyway, the short answer is no, I don't think it's viable. Maybe as a thing you do for a bit of pin money if you happen to come across someone in need but not as a business.

LolaDabestest · 18/09/2019 23:43

nit stuff

LipSyncForYourLife · 18/09/2019 23:48

A great idea! Make sure you leave some of the eggs for repeat business and even take some away with you to scatter on unsuspecting heads while on the bus - you could pop your business card in their pockets while they incubate.

delacruz · 18/09/2019 23:51

@LolaDabestest definitely not a full time job, just a little something on the side, haha it's nothing too serious, it was just something someone said to me and I'd had a little think about, I'd much rather people give honest opinions than just go for it and it be a waste of time!

@pinkdelight my experience with head lice stems from me having them throughout my teenage years and I couldn't get rid of them until I sat there and picked them all out, dd has had them a couple of times and I just pick them out instead of bothering with treatment! It's definitely not something that I'm super serious about right now but the more opinions on it the better Smile

OP posts:
Mixingitall · 18/09/2019 23:51

Also adults need a service like this. My boys has bits when dh was away, so I had to do my incredibly thick hair myself.

Mixingitall · 18/09/2019 23:51

Had nits even!

delacruz · 18/09/2019 23:52

@LipSyncForYourLife I'll even give a little discount for that! 😂

OP posts:
delacruz · 18/09/2019 23:52

@Mixingitall oh of course, it would be for anybody not just children Grin

OP posts:
CherryPavlova · 18/09/2019 23:54

You’d need more than a one off visit to clear nits and I don’t see many people paying you to come and comb and condition their children’s hair every day for a fortnight.

Purpleartichoke · 18/09/2019 23:57

I have already bookmarked a local service that will do live treatment. They charge an arm and a leg and a spleen. I don’t care. I will happily hand over large amounts of money if lice strikes.

delacruz · 18/09/2019 23:59

@Purpleartichoke before having a little look online tonight, I didn't actually realise that this was actually a thing and people do it professionally!

OP posts:
zeezee3 · 19/09/2019 00:00

@delacruz It sounds like a terrible idea sorry. For all the reasons people have listed.

And now you have got me scratching my head! Hmm

Purpleartichoke · 19/09/2019 00:01

Oh and to be clear, I want s service that combines chemicals and thorough combing.

delacruz · 19/09/2019 00:01

Haha sorry @zeezee3 ! Although I'm grateful for your feedback! Grin

OP posts:
delacruz · 19/09/2019 00:06

I think on that note although it seemed like a good idea it's probably not going to work, although that doesn't mean I won't offer to help anybody in need as I know how frustrating they can be! Grin

OP posts:
zeezee3 · 19/09/2019 00:07

@delacruz

S'okay. I'm only pulling your leg. (Still riffing me head tho!) Hmm

Grin
Bigbus · 19/09/2019 00:11

Round where I am there are people who charge £200 to get rid of nits (after several months of repeat infestations due to one child in DDs class who always had them I was googling anything!). I didn't use the service because it was super expensive and I found the nitty gritty comb to be good in the end but there is definitely a market for it, depending on where you are. In this area, lots of people would rather pay for things than have to do them themselves so it would work as a business I think.
