get out of the self checkout lane in superquinn (10 items or less) when she had a full trolley of shopping?
and then be wholly unmoved when she made some sort of defence along the lines of "for gods sake i'm trying to do a shop with three children with me".

perhaps you could just have asked her if you could nip in front of her while she put her items on the conveyor

aloha · 10/08/2007 18:26

Orangehead, you put a basket inside your trolley, then at the pay point, take basket out of trolley and put goods on conveyor belt.

Kif · 10/08/2007 18:26

I've been asked to leave the self-scan queue - I had a trolley with ds in the seat and about three items in it (like milk, apples and nappies)

next time I put a basket inside the trolley . Ha ha!

muppetgirl · 10/08/2007 18:28

Am thinking of using the self-check/basket lanes with a trolley of only ten items as I'm prgt and really can't carry a basket atm -my backs feels like it's going to explode.
Not sure what reaction I'm going to get

(I do large internet shop for heavy items and buy fresh meat/veg so never really more than ten items. + I've then got to lift it in the car and out again)

I go shopping with a mad two year old and five year old with Aspergers. I am lucky that they both enjoy the supermarket and I take them when they are not too tired and with promises of Starbucks afterwards, but I wouldn't use the 10 items or less queue with them if I had a full trolley.

Spidermama · 10/08/2007 19:35

It's high time supermarkets started running supervised creches for those of us forced to take little ones round. I find it deeply traumatic and I end up with all the wrong shopping and too little of it.

I would happily pay a fiver or so for a creche for an hour. I would also spend more money in the supermarket and I may even visit the supermarket when I don't really need to in order to get an hour off.

Howdydoody · 10/08/2007 19:47

you are a man whiskyandbeer? Must be a chap thing then as my DH has done exactly the same thing . He pointed out to the person in front the item was a 10 item queue - didnt get a mouthful, just a blank look. Whereas i just mutter annoyed to myself

MyMILisDoloresUmbridge · 10/08/2007 20:08

Of course stleger you have the English Market, which is fab! dsis always brings up lovely cheeses and stuff from there!

MyMILisDoloresUmbridge · 10/08/2007 20:09

superquinn did have a creche. Don't know if they still do. I use ds1 to watch ds3 while I'm measuring out my mushrooms!

sparklygothkat · 10/08/2007 20:20

I was asked to move from the self scan once when I had MIL in her wheelchair, and a few items in the trolley attached to the wheelchair

macmama73 · 10/08/2007 20:50

Spidermama, the first supermarket that offers a creche gets my undying loyalty as long as the DCs are small. I hate shopping with them, absolute nightmare.

MrsSpoon · 10/08/2007 21:04

Our local ASDA store has a creche, I've never used it.

orangehead · 10/08/2007 21:15

aloha get tip

lubyluby · 10/08/2007 21:24

safeways used to have a brilliant creche. but then was taken over by morrisons and in its re-branding it disapearred.
i even used to choose safeways over waitrose as it ahd a creche, as in those days was a sahm so dh wasn't very understanding of the stress casued tkaing littleones food shopping so would moan about looking after kids on his 'day off' needless to say i have since whipped him into shape and we do an online shop and anything else i email him to pick up on his way home.

but in answer to origioanl question, if mum in question was already scaning said trolley, was a bit unreasonable to ask her to not as she would then have caused you more delay by abandoning shop and walking off! as i would have doen if had to go shopping with 3 kids and then be confronted by someone for using 'wrong lane'!

stleger · 10/08/2007 22:37

All supermarket creches in Cork seem to have closed - dunno if Superquinn still do them? (Our local farmer's market has a stall selling bananas - we are so lucky down here!)

sunnydelight · 13/08/2007 10:07

I am now drooling at the thought of Superquinn sausages. NOTHING tastes as good - unfortunately I am in Sydney!
