get out of the self checkout lane in superquinn (10 items or less) when she had a full trolley of shopping?
and then be wholly unmoved when she made some sort of defence along the lines of "for gods sake i'm trying to do a shop with three children with me".

Maybe she hadn't noticed it was an express till. I've done this

edam · 10/08/2007 16:13

Of course YANBU, she was a cheeky mare. Mind you, I've had people glare at me when I've taken one of those little trolleys through the baskets only queue - think is have only ever done that when I've only got four or five items, far fewer than cross person has in their overflowing basket. Just used a trolley to avoid lugging my heavy bag round.

IsabelWatchingItRainInMacondo · 10/08/2007 16:13

Self scan a full trolley with 3 children on tow???Poor woman, must be insane, it takes me hours to scan 5 things correctly and so far have always had to contact the staff, the sole thought of a full trolley makes my skin crawl!

whiskeyandbeer · 10/08/2007 16:14

casabie i was using the express lane thats the whole point of the thread.
i had 4 items and went to the express lane, the woman in front of me had a full trolly and was also trying to use the express lane (10 items etc). so it's not a case of compassion. as i said before if someone is in a rush or is just grabbing some emergency essential and they ask politely to go ahead of me i generally would not have a problem with this.
this woman on the other hand chose to go shopping at this time with her three children and felt that because she had children sh should not be subjected to the same rules as everyone else. i saw plenty of mothers with kids in the appropriate lanes for a full trolley who weren't acting in such a manner.
oh and purpleturtle thanks for the defence but i'm a HE not a SHE ( last time i checked anyway )

oh yeah bringing a small trolley through or a trolley with only a couple of items is cool, i wouldn't have a problem with that as it doesn't make a difference to me if the ten items are in a basket,a trolley or a rucksack.

In the old days Senator Quinn would have popped out and sorted it for you....

Spidermama · 10/08/2007 16:21

Unsisterly yes but not unreasonable, technically.

MyMILisDoloresUmbridge · 10/08/2007 16:29

Oh yeah! (reminisces) Once I asked Feargal Quinn to get in tinned beansprouts and he got them in for me. Were previously unheard of in Blanch!

wheresthehamster · 10/08/2007 16:51

Sorry, perhaps I misread, but did you say your piece AFTER they had started the transaction? They obviously wouldn't do anything about it then if that's the case.

I would have been annoyed but she probably thought it was better for everyone in the shop if she got out quickly. Kids about to go hyper maybe.

Fennel · 10/08/2007 16:52

Good point, wheresthehamster. I often feel that removing my 3 children as speedily as possible from the public view (and ear) is in the common interest.

I was recently told to get out of express checkout by staff coz i had i trolley with three items in, one was 6 pint of milk so heavy, as have very bad shoulder couldnt carry a heavy milk around in basket (as i lke to have a good nosey round) also sit child in trolley. Anyway dont think you being unreasonable, yeh difficult shopping with 3 children but others do it and wait in que what makes her so different.

MyMILisDoloresUmbridge · 10/08/2007 17:10

Because it isn't Waitrose, it's Superquinn! I meant it is the equivalent of Waitrose as opposed to LIDL or Tesco but it's a different company.

SweetyDarling · 10/08/2007 17:12

Jeez, Suz - seriously!? You're in WA aren't you?? Goodness - they are open 7 days, often 24 hours but at least till 9 or 10pm in Sydney!

MrsSpoon · 10/08/2007 17:57

Ah, Superquinn is the name of a supermarket, I thought it was a typo.

stleger · 10/08/2007 18:06

(Agree it is a daft name, Mr Quinn started it). I have more issues with Waitrose Ocado John Lewis having different names. I don't have access to Waitrose of Superquinn and am jealous.

MyMILisDoloresUmbridge · 10/08/2007 18:08

No superquinn in Cork, stleger?
(chipmonkey here by the way!)

stleger · 10/08/2007 18:13

Cork is the home of Super Valu.... I think there is a Superquinn in Limerick? Of course in Cork we eat artisan foods most of the time. Signed Darina Allen

calordan · 10/08/2007 18:21

YANBU I always shop with 3 kids am not wasting hubbie home time in supermarket, and would never use the 10 or less queue, but the supermarket i go to one of the staff let my ds scan the items throught the checkout so he wouldnt let me go to any other till
