To find eating every day boring?

GreenyEye · 16/09/2019 17:30

I'm really uninterested in food lately.. i'm at the point of only eating because I know I should... I could honestly just not bother.

I've a freezer and cupboards full of it, and I dont actually want any of it.. nothing is inspiring me.

I feed my kids, but then I dont want to eat... I genuinely don't know how to get out of this and find eating interesting again.

I bloody love food.. I wish I could help share that feeling about food. What did you used to like eating? Can you make small tasty things like gourmet style? Maybe more exciting

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 16/09/2019 17:34

Could you look through recipes for inspiration of something that looks really good and try it out?
Do you ponder during the day on what you fancy for tea that night? I do it often and it makes the curry far better when you've been salivating over it all day 😁

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 16/09/2019 17:35

I will eat your food. It’s literally all I live for!

Singlebutmarried · 16/09/2019 17:35

I’m bored of trying to find different things for dinner every day.

It’s the having to think every bloody day.

GreenyEye · 16/09/2019 17:37

i've an autistic child.. I think years of having to cook bland food for him has just killed my love of it.

I feed him what he'll eat, and generally DD eats the same because she's mimicking his eating habits.. then there is me and my mom, who isn't the best of interesting eaters either (think she's autistic too) so I just stare at my cupboard of boring, bland, uninteresting BEIGE food and just want to shut the door and walk away from it.

I get like this when I am tired/stressed. I eat bland carbs. Do not do this - it makes you feel rubbish.

Maybe something small but healthy? Greek yoghurt or porridge with some fruit/seeds/spot of honey?

AhCheeses · 16/09/2019 17:39

Snap.
I don't enjoy cooking, I don't enjoy eating, I only do it because I need to eat and it's frowned upon to leave the kids to fend for themselves.
I'm always a bit jealous of people who go to restaurants and get excited choosing from a menu. I just can't get excited about food.

Mummadeeze · 16/09/2019 17:41

I make a fruit smoothie in the evening with chocolate almond or soya milk everyday. I don’t want anything either really. But I do have a hot lunch at work everyday. There is a choice of four dishes so it takes the decision out of it. I used to love food too but I have had to get used to eating less and eating things I don’t love to maintain my weight so this is where I am at really. Am learning to enjoy other things instead like exercising and reading to fill the void.

Wavyheaded · 16/09/2019 17:59

You've spent years cooking for other people and catering to their tastes.. but your tastes are important too. Perhaps make yourself a separate meal, just for you, more savoury, or spicy or whatever –something that you'll like and the others won't. You deserve it! Food is one of the pleasure of life, you shouldn't have to lose out.

Laura221 · 16/09/2019 18:02

How about a meal plan for the week. So your only spending say maybe an hour max every week thinking about food. You get in , look at the list and know that you have to cook sausage and beans and take away the need to think about it?

Laiste · 16/09/2019 18:07

I know how you feel.

How about cruising round M&S food hall for the meals for one? Or looking at little 'party food' options? The chinese food bits always look tasty and are so easy to cook. They come with a pot of dip, ect. Basically anything which really takes your fancy, weather or not it's a typical actual 'meal' choice, and will cook with minimum effort.

cantfindname · 16/09/2019 18:10

I know how you feel. I am on my own now and have a bulging freezer and heaving cupboards but my enthusiasm for cooking and eating it is at an all time low. As a diabetic I have to eat and I think that's part of the problem, if I could opt out of food for a few days I am certain I would feel better.

All I really enjoy are roasted veg like courgette, onion, tomato and peppers and I have eaten it so often lately that even that is wearing a bit thin.

Silly thing is I love cooking but can't be arsed to do it for just me.

Meirion · 16/09/2019 18:37

I'm with you, it is boring. I like sugar, no big surprise there, most people like sugar. I like cake, don't get me wrong. But actual food, meh. I could happily do without it.

I've recently changed my diet to be more healthy because I used to live on coffee and sugar and it was making me fat. Now I am mindful of what I eat. I plan meals, I cook, I eat a lot of vegetables, I should be grateful that I have enough to eat because there are plenty of people who don't.

I am bored out of my skull. I wasn't interested in food when I lived on caffeine and sugar and I'm still not interested now I'm cooking with every vegetable there is.

Bored, bored, bored. Most boring hobby I've ever had. I wish we would hurry up and invent a nutritious pill that makes the need to eat go away so that I could go back to my actual life.

GreenyEye · 16/09/2019 18:58

we have meal planned for the rest of the week, but today was a 'chip & whatever' night, and I just really didnt want chips or anything else... oven chips are just a plate of boring sadness.

I've been feeling like this for months now.
I used to look forward to eating and loved food but now I just can't be bothered and just eat because I know I have too.

I'll cook for my two DC and husband but when it comes to me I just don't feel like anything or when I start to eat my meals it just feels like a chore.

I know for me I have no appetite when I am vitamin deficient so perhaps I'm lacking in something again.

EmeraldShamrock · 16/09/2019 19:39

I have always been like this. I don't get hungry really so I need to set meals times.
This morning eating breakfast I felt I was forcing it into a full stomach.

Neverender · 16/09/2019 19:42

YANBU I'd rather plug myself in like an iPhone Smile

Neverender · 16/09/2019 19:46

I make myself meal plan because I know I have to eat and I feel crap if I don't. I make sure I eat what I should and vary it but I can't really be arsed and would happily stop eating 99% of meals if I could. I enjoy one meal about every three months, and that's always if I'm super hungry.

justasking111 · 16/09/2019 19:50

@GreenyEye are you the same with food if you are eating out?

GetUpAgain · 16/09/2019 19:53

It's so boring isn't it. And relentless and repetitive.

Rollerbird · 16/09/2019 19:58

What about Huel
uk.huel.com/
Never tried it, but some sort of powder?

  • like complete nutritional balanced food for humans
horse4course · 16/09/2019 21:21

Buy a new fruit or veg every time you shop and savour it. Eat it slowly. Look up recipes and fine out where it grows and what nutritional values it has. Be open to the smell and texture.

Why not try exotic but easy things like pomegranate, mango, mange tout, figs etc.

I think about food a lot, if I wake in the night I think about what to cook the next day. Only briefly when pregnant have I experienced how it feels to be neutral about food.

Sgtmajormummy · 18/09/2019 09:21

Why not try watching foodie television? There’s a whole range of programmes based on food you can neither smell nor taste, so the visuals have to be stunning!

I love the lifestyles promoted by Jamie Oliver or Mary Berry - family comfort food with emphasis on high quality ingredients.
Or if I’m feeling competitive, Masterchef. Watching people struggle against the clock to create something worthwhile.
Then you’re thinking about food while not necessarily cooking and eating it.
Websites like BBC Good Food are full of recipes to browse and raise your curiosity.
I know just how uninspiring it can be to cook for yourself. I’ve eaten uncooked ravioli (!) for dinner because I CBA to boil the water for them. But I enjoy the social side of sitting down and sharing a meal and if you’re spending even an hour a day doing that, it might as well be a pleasure!

user87382294757 · 18/09/2019 09:43

Why don't you try one of those boxes like Hello fresh or some nice new recipes?

dollydaydream114 · 18/09/2019 10:43

I think there are actually quite a lot of people who just don't get much pleasure/excitement from food and just think of it as fuel - but it sounds like you haven't always been this way and used to enjoy eating.

This may seem like a weird question, but is it just food you've lost interest in, or have you also lost interest in other things you used to enjoy? Are you otherwise happy and well? Because sometimes stress or depression can really affect the way you feel about food and enjoyable activities in general.
