AIBU to be worried about the amount of pain I have in my leg when I can't really see any cause for it to be so painful?!!

madcatladyforever · 16/09/2019 00:09

Sciatic nerve pain?

PickAChew · 16/09/2019 00:10

What's the pain like and where? Legs are big.

madcatladyforever · 16/09/2019 00:10

YABU not giving us more information.

OwOwOwOwOw · 16/09/2019 00:16

Oh sorry! No I haven't.

No not nerve.

It makes me cry out when I try to bend ir straighten my knee.

This is gonna sound mad, but to avoid the pain I have been pulling my pjs to lift my leg!

Theres no brusing, no swelling, and its behind my knee.

Does that help any?

OP posts:
OwOwOwOwOw · 16/09/2019 00:18

So, I'm assuming its nothing mechanical as without trying to use my leg to bend my knee it doesn't hurt.

As soon as I engage my own leg to un/bend it, its ahhhhhhhh!

I would call 111 or your equivalent, just in case of a DVT/blood clot . I’m not medically trained but that’s what I would do in your shoes (although I have a genetic predisposition to DVT’s)

MartiniDry · 16/09/2019 00:19

Can you feel a lump at the back of your knee?

OwOwOwOwOw · 16/09/2019 00:20

I think thats the biggest worry isnt it?

I have no brusing or anything though, nothing. No swelling.

Are there any other symptoms of a dvt?

OP posts:
OwOwOwOwOw · 16/09/2019 00:23

No, no lump.

I just had a good feel, and its just to the right of the behind the knee crease, and sore to the touch just there and a bit below.

I first noticed it this morning, and thought I must've twisted it when standing up, but I would've know at the time right. I mean for it to be this painful.

Ring NHS111

OwOwOwOwOw · 17/09/2019 23:31

Think 111 just send you straight to hospital, which is why it wasn't my go to.

OP posts:
Blahblahblahnanana · 17/09/2019 23:36

Only if it’s an emergency.

KellyHall · 17/09/2019 23:40

Go and see your doctor.

My knee just seared with pain one day, my leg collapsed from under me. I had damage to my cartilage caused by my kneecap not tracking straight and had to see a physio for exercises to correct it.

OwOwOwOwOw · 19/09/2019 00:27

I just fell on a garage forecourt and the pain, and the noise I made, brought the cashier inside outside to my side with concern.

She said she heard it inside (the noise I made)

I think, although if I try to bend it I can't weight bear, its a lot better than it was. I just have to be careful.

I am still.bemused as to what i could possibly have done though Confused

I don't get why you don't just go to a&e OP, or why you're saying you have no idea why it hurts, but are then saying you've had a very bad fall Confused. If you've literally had an accident and can't use your leg, which hurts, then just go and have it looked at and x rayed so a professional can advise. It could be anything from a torn ligament, a fracture, a break, a pulled muscle, a strain- all common if you've fallen but not anything anyone here can diagnose. Even minor injuries, if left, can cause problems long term- going to physio every week is a pain in the arse so I'd just get it seen.

Hope the pain subsides!

maras2 · 19/09/2019 00:50

DVT or ruptured Baker cyst.
Please seek medical advice.

EmeraldShamrock · 19/09/2019 02:00

My DM recently had DVT her symptoms were large swollen leg, purple toes and rash on her leg, eventually delirium as she left it like that for a few days, she had a pulmonary embolism and dvt.
It sounds like a pulled muscle if there is no swelling and difficult to bend, did you take any stairs at speed, have a leg muscle spasm? It won't harm to have it checked out, dont panic a pulled muscle is agony behind the knee.

SlavesToTheKitchen · 19/09/2019 02:12

Go to the doc. Could have torn and trapped the meniscus. Or it could be badly bruised.

Rosebud21 · 19/09/2019 08:21

Second @maras2, see your GP today, they can do a fingerprick blood test (D-dimer) to check for DVT, & request an ultrasound to check for Baker's cyst. Go to an emergency department with any chest pain and/or shortness of breath

bridgetreilly · 19/09/2019 08:48

111 generally send children straight to hospital, but with adults they are better at distinguishing emergencies from non-emergencies. Ring them.

Possible cruciate ligament damage?

OwOwOwOwOw · 19/09/2019 11:51

Confused I didn't do anything of note. No accident, nothing. I can use my leg.
It can't possibly be a fracture, as I've not had a bad accident.

I think its more likely I've unwittingly twisted something with a odd move or something.

The fall I had was because I tried to bend my knee to stoop down, and suddenly it was agony again (after having been pretty comfortable, just a little sore so a very slight limp). It made me cry out. Generally its not hurting now,but I cant use it fully is all.

I think the miniscus thing sounds very plausible. I looked it up, and the inside of my knee is sore to touch prod and poke particularly the bony bit, I imagine where the top edge of the tibia is.

I did worry a lot about dvt. I have no symptoms though, other than pain on bending my knee, apart from that nothing dramatic happened to cause the pain. The fact that I can press on the bone and it hurt tells me thats where its coming from whereas dvt would be deep inside, normally, the calf muscle.

No swelling no bruising, nothing to see.

The warning is good to look out for though, shortness of breath etc.

I am thinking, like most things, will be able to heal on its own without intervention. Maybe if it goes on longer than a few weeks I should get it looked at?

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 19/09/2019 11:53

No, you should get it looked at today Confused

Or at the very least make an appointment. Why would you leave severe pain for a few weeks? That's what you should do for a cough.

Butttons · 19/09/2019 11:54

Did you call 111 or go to see a dr? No one on an online forum can help you without knowing all the facts and quite frankly using Google to diagnose yourself is idiotic.
