AIBU to be worried about the amount of pain I have in my leg when I can't really see any cause for it to be so painful?!!

Bertie I guess I'm treating it the same way I would treat any muscle or ligament damage. Use/rest as much as possible and it will heal itself, along with a bit of anti-inflammatory to help it settle.

The first night I put gel on it. Its improving, as in getting easier to walk, just have to be mindful to not put weight on it and bend.

There is so much time-wasting at GPs. I'd hate to be one of them.

Sorry @OwOwOwOwOw, I read your post when half asleep & missed what you said about an injury! If you can walk without pain A&E are unlikely to request an x-ray, this will only show bony injury & not a meniscus (cartilage) tear or cruciate ligament injury. Knee injuries typically heal with a few weeks, if you have persistent pain see your GP as an ultrasound scan or MRI might be indicated. In the meantime if your knee locks in position so that you cannot move it, or if your knee gives way so that you fall to the ground then go to A&E

OwOwOwOwOw · 26/09/2019 12:22

Still don't know what it is!

It IS considerably better, but I do have to be careful when bending it, but can increasingly use it.

LizzyDarcy1 · 26/09/2019 12:24

What haven't you had it checked out?!

Smotheroffive · 26/09/2019 12:49

See pp

Smotheroffive · 26/09/2019 12:50

There's somthing about that already

k1233 · 26/09/2019 12:58

Yeah, mine started like that. 4 or so years on can't straighten the leg. When it got too painful and I couldn't even step off a curb, let alone do stairs, I found a wonderful exercise physiologist. 12 months of weekly visits and much improved.

I'd highly recommend seeing someone sooner rather than later to work on it to improve.

KUGA · 26/09/2019 13:07

Its sciatica.100%. I have had it for 21 months and its bloody horrendous.
Your GP will give you pain killers which didn`t work for me.
My dh also has it,it is v common.

SockQueen · 26/09/2019 13:13

Why on EARTH haven't you seen a healthcare professional about this in a whole week?! You say you didn't have an accident, but then say you fell - THAT IS AN ACCIDENT. Do you actually want to get assessed and get better, or just hope that the mumsnet hive mind can heal it over the internet?

OwOwOwOwOw · 26/09/2019 22:20

Sock You say you didn't have an accident, but then say you fell - THAT IS AN ACCIDENT.

My OP says exactly what happened, as in nothing really, I might have slightly twisted it or something, but nothing to warrant the pain I was in.

It made another, altogether separate post, about having to bend some days later to get something that had dropped from my bag, as I used my knee without thinking the pain made me cry out.

I have been resting and using, and it is vastly improved. Initially I put ibuprofen gel on it to sleep at night, and during the day just to ease it a bit. I am currently on ibuprofen anyway for something else, so thats probably helping too.

Thank you for thd suggestions. I do know 100% its not sciatica, as thats totally different. This is painful to touch in one part of my knee alone, the miniscus.

I have been very careful with it,and it is healing very well. Today, I actually partially relied upon it during a knee bend and it was fine, so a vast improvement on the initial 'whatever-it-was' !

My sister had a small accident and broke her arm. You don't need to have a big accident to break something.

Unknownanon · 26/09/2019 22:54

It isn't good to leave these things, that's how a friend ended up with a frozen shoulder.

OwOwOwOwOw · 26/09/2019 22:57

Even though its so much better and I'm looking after it well?

I just think a GP would wonder why I'd gone if I told them, just as I've explained it here.

OP posts:
peachsquish · 26/09/2019 23:04

Probably best to still check though. Years ago I hit my lower leg against a table leg, hurt a bit.
2 weeks later still achy but walking as normal doctor said all fine.
6 weeks later and pain still there popped to minor injuries at local a and e. They thought a sprain but x rayed, broken leg.
Was meant to be just a bandage at the next day fracture clinic as was healing itself but that night I moved my leg in a funny way and couldn't put my foot to the floor so ended up in plaster.

OwOwOwOwOw · 26/09/2019 23:07

Ooo, ow peach

However, I haven't hit my knee. Didnt knock it against anything. It cant break without some considerable trauma.

Yours must have just caught the wrong angle!

OP posts:
DrVonPatak · 26/09/2019 23:11

You popped a meniscus. GP time. In the meantime, ibuprofen, ice in a blanket, supportive bandage and rest. You'll need physio.

EducatingArti · 26/09/2019 23:12

Just to say, you aren't supposed to take ibuprofen tablets and use the ibuprofen gel at the same time as it gives you too high a dose.

DrVonPatak · 26/09/2019 23:12

Ice in a blanket means popping some ice cubes in a tea towel and hold it to the back of your knee.

OwOwOwOwOw · 26/09/2019 23:15

Is anyone reading the thread? The comments don't say they are.

It happened a long time ago now.

It's vastly improved.

I didn't take ibuprofen at the same time as applying gel. I already wrote that I did the gel initially, and ^then' was taking ibuprofen separately for something else.

OP posts:
OwOwOwOwOw · 26/09/2019 23:18

I've just checked my OP, 10 days ago.

Meh, I get not going to a GP every time you hurt your leg etc.

If you think it's healing, get yourself some comfrey salve to speed it up. Comfrey is very good for joints. Helps strengthen and heal bones and cartridge. Be gentle with your movements. Massage it in, and that will help reduce the tension in the surrounding muscles that have been supporting the sore joint. Don't forget to also look after your good leg which has been doing more work supporting you.

While you still remember the timeline make some clear notes as to what happened and the rate of improvement. If it worsens and you do go to the GP you can then tell them what happened (in a clearer fashion than you have explained here!)

OwOwOwOwOw · 27/09/2019 01:30

I will, thank you. I will try the comfry.

Tell them what happened in a clearer fashion ...

I seriously don't know what more I could say, and would literally repeat this thread really.

Its been good as a timeline to note the improvements over days.

OP posts:
OwOwOwOwOw · 02/10/2019 12:18

All seems gone now.

I just started using my leg yesterday when bending and bearing weight together. So far so good.

Weird, mystery!

Its taken a while but also not long for anything like torn muscle or ligaments. Must have twisted something.
