To ask which supermarket is the best for own brand stuff?

Been shopping in Lidl the last few months. However, I'm finding one is getting really bad and prices are going up. Used to find it really good, so didn't mind dragging young baby along but now it doesn't feel worth the hassle of fighting with the till system with fussy baby in sling. Our local Aldi is shite and I hate Morrisons.

Decided to go back to supermarket delivery. Which is the best for own brand items? We cook most meals from scratch and eat lost of fresh foods such vegetables, fruit, cheese, eggs, etc. Only packaged stuff we tend to get is stuff like cereals, snacks for toddler, occasional biscuits etc. Meat is from local butchers. Not snobby about buying value items, as long as they're decent.

If you buy mostly own brand, where do you think is the best quality?

Morrison's, sorry.

WaggingKnife · 15/09/2019 13:57

Yup agree with JumpyLiz, Morrison’s.

Synecdoche · 15/09/2019 13:57

Morrisons for me, but as you don't like it the next would be Tesco. I like Asda too but Tesco is more reliable with fresh and has a wider choice. I get my shopping delivered too and don't buy anything branded.

plominoagain · 15/09/2019 13:59

Morrisons here too , sorry . Tesco's is expensive pretending to be cheap , Sainsbury's is lovely but expensive and Asda is shite .

Schwibble · 15/09/2019 14:01

Waitrose, especially their Essentials range. Some Asda own brand stuff is good too.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 15/09/2019 15:01

You guys aren't helping with your Morrisons recommendations Grin

I would say Waitrose/Ocado, but I haven't tried Morrisons (or Asda).

JayDot500 · 15/09/2019 16:20

Not Asda

ZenNudist · 15/09/2019 16:22

Sainsbury's

HunterHearstHelmsley · 15/09/2019 16:24

Sainsburys.

Morgan12 · 15/09/2019 16:28

I like Asda. Their pizzas are great. Their curries are better than takeaway.

Their beans are no bad. Their pasta n sauce are disgusting though.

tequilasunrises · 15/09/2019 16:44

We’ve started buying the rebranded Tesco own value stuff. Instead of the plain white packaging they’ve got different ‘companies’ so Stockwell for beans/cereal, The Hearty Food Company for pasta and the such like. Makes me feel snobby for never buying it when the packaging was white because it’s all nice.

SistersOfMerci · 15/09/2019 16:45

Morrison's have upped their game recently and we've switched to them but still do some in Aldi.

caroloro · 15/09/2019 17:12

Morrisons. But failing that, Waitrose followed by Sainsburys.

serenoa · 15/09/2019 17:23

Definitely Waitrose. Sainsbury's are runners up but it's not close.

When I moved house in 2017 Waitrose delivery was the first thing I checked a possible house for. No Waitrose no move.

Inebriati · 15/09/2019 17:26

Asda or Morrisons. Lidl is great for some stuff like fish and meat, but a lot of the own brand is terrible. Even the frozen veg and chicken pieces which is weirdly nasty. I mean how can you fuck up frozen green beans?

Yestermo · 15/09/2019 17:27

If you're rich then Waitrose. otherwise (sorry) Morrison's.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/09/2019 17:33

I was also going to say Morrisons before I read all your OP.

Why don't you like them? Their meat is probably the best supermarket meat, ok except m&s and Waitrose at twice the price, and a lot of their other stuff is great too.

PositiveVibez · 15/09/2019 17:38

I used to shop at Lidl, but I have started getting Tesco deliveries now.

We are always getting vouchers off them too. Regularly get £7 -£10 off vouchers.

Good value and the fruit and veg is always nice and fresh.

Oulidae · 15/09/2019 17:42

Co-op for me, it's slightly more expensive but it's good quality and you get 5% back on your membership card and 1% back to your chosen local community cause on any own brand product you buy. The 5% adds up quickly and the past couple of years I've had a couple of hundred pounds on my membership card saved up for a big shop at christmas.
I think they do delivery in Manchester and London now too!

ProhibitedRodent · 15/09/2019 17:44

Morrison's!!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 15/09/2019 17:44

Sainsbury's and then Waitrose for top ups. Our Morrison's is really crap.

ProhibitedRodent · 15/09/2019 17:45

Also, Morrison's are the only supermarket who have never had Equine traces found in their mince/meat products. They're also the only ones who aren't all Halal by default

Siameasy · 15/09/2019 17:46

Sainsburys
Prefer it to Waitrose actually as I think W is over rated
Morrison’s is my least favourite

firefly101 · 15/09/2019 17:53

Essential Waitrose for us, by far the best value for money and delivered with a free smart pass from Ocado.
