To think iPhones are no longer innovative?

It seems like every "new" iPhone is just the same as the last, never really does anything new or different Confused

Is it just me who thinks this?

OP posts:
ScreamingValenta · 13/09/2019 23:04

I wouldn't buy a phone at that price, no matter how innovative it was.

donquixotedelamancha · 13/09/2019 23:05

Are the cameras better on android?

You can buy an equivalent spec phone for much less money on Android.

To think iPhones are no longer innovative?

They have not been innovative for a long time. I swapped my Dad over to iphone a couple of years ago and I think they are still good for the elderly or anyone who wants a simplified operating system.

I like the look of the new one, the 11 pro I think.

Is that the one which looks like a black rectangle with rounded corners? Design like that really stands out from other phones, doesn't it?

ILiveInSalemsLot · 13/09/2019 23:14

They haven’t really developed Siri either. Google has become so much more interactive and sophisticated while Siri just bumbles along only being able to do the very basic.

inlalalalaland · 13/09/2019 23:16

I agree. Not innovative and too pricy.

Only reason I have iPhone because of icloud and that I can integrate it with my Mac, and all my family members who are over 5000 miles away use imessenger and FaceTime.

I also hate the fact that I have two different set of ear phones - as iPhone and Mac have different style of ear phone socket. Also hate the fact that I need a connecter to use a pen drive or printer - sorry I got carried away, I know it was not about Mac but they are from same family Grin

inlalalalaland · 13/09/2019 23:18

Having said that, I wish we can go back to Nokia or blackberry days. I end up wasting a lot of time on smartphones.

UndomesticHousewife · 13/09/2019 23:19

My last phone was the 6 plus I now have the 8 plus there is no difference in the phones. I think the camera was better on the 6.

BringTheBounceBack · 13/09/2019 23:21

I used to upgrade whenever they brought a new core phone out (not the s versions)
I stopped doing that after the 2017, there is not enough for me to even consider a trade in this year, I’d have to pay £729 for the phone. Pointless. For a camera, when everything on social media is compressed anyway. Just no way.

GreenTulips · 13/09/2019 23:21

The kids have iPhones because the school blocks the phone signal and text messages but allows iMessages

It’s the only reason I have one if they need to contact me

donquixotedelamancha · 13/09/2019 23:30

The kids have iPhones because the school blocks the phone signal and text messages but allows iMessages

Presumably any other messenger app would work?

That said, I have the slight impression that the school might not want your children to use their phones in school.

GreenTulips · 13/09/2019 23:31

All the children have phones, not just mine and there isn’t a ban. None of the others work either.

EustaciaPieface · 13/09/2019 23:33

Is that the one which looks like a black rectangle with rounded corners? Design like that really stands out from other phones, doesn't it?

No, it comes in a range of colours, sizes etc. You must be getting confused.

Onefootforwards · 14/09/2019 00:06

@GreenTulips my OH keeps telling me the signal is blocked in our local school and I didn’t believe him Blush

I don’t get any internet at all in it though so couldn’t even use iMessage or WhatsApp etc.

nonmerci · 14/09/2019 00:13

I stick with Apple because it’s easy. I tried an android a couple of years ago and sent it back after a few days, couldn’t cope with it. Apple’s software is far superior to Android even if it doesn’t really change, that’s what I like about it.

Tigger001 · 14/09/2019 00:18

OP I have to agree, they are not really doing anything new with them and havent for ages.

I think people stick to what they know though, I'm not a massive fan, but I have a friend who loved Apple, he now moans about them, but always pre orders the new one, just because ConfusedConfused

Oysterbabe · 14/09/2019 00:27

DH is an apple fan boy but is about to get his first non-apple phone in forever. The main reason is he's sick with jealousy about how much better the camera is on my Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

GHGN · 14/09/2019 00:37

The Samsung Fold is pretty innovative. Much more than anything Apple has done in the last 10 years put together.

W0rriedMum · 14/09/2019 00:42

Apple haven't been innovative since Steve Jobs died, sadly. Before then they were the business.
Most of our techie friends have Android phones of all types.
I just couldn't justify the cost!

pottedshrimps · 14/09/2019 00:44

I was with apple for years, but changed over to samsung last year because I was fed up with the apple phones getting more expensive but not offering more.

My galaxy s9 is lovely and the camera far better than my iPhone 6. Android operating system takes a bit of getting used to, but it does everything ios does and it's easy to switch all your stuff over.

helacells · 14/09/2019 01:01

Bloody hell I don't know anyone who uses anything other than an iPhone. How do you all FaceTime?

DifficultSituation19 · 14/09/2019 01:28

I have an iPhone 7 which I’ve had for 3 years and have no intention of upgrading to a newer iPhone. The iPhone cameras are very disappointing, I’m super jealous of my bf’s new android phone and its amazing camera.

Only thing is, we are all so entrenched in Apple here. I have a MacBook, DCs have iPhones/iPads. I use airdrop a lot for my work between my Mac and my phone. I don’t know if all the compatibility difficulties that having a non Apple phone would cause are worth a fancy camera? Also I have no idea how android works and I don’t know if I can be arsed to learn Grin. I am well aware that Apple have me right where they want me.

darkriver19886 · 14/09/2019 01:38

Made laugh with people obsessing over the 3 camera thing. Samsung has had it for ages and a lot more stylish. Was considering getting one for the video but think will just stick to my android.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 14/09/2019 01:52

I agree the camera is awful. Plus the battery on mine always gets really hot. But I stick with it because it's small. Other handsets just seem enormous and I want a phone I can put in my pocket.

user764329056 · 14/09/2019 02:05

It’s all marketing, as everything is these days, just to buy the latest gimmick when the one you bought only last year still works perfectly, unfortunately the sheep mentality of consumerism means people flock to have the latest shit with no regard for the waste the are creating, a dream for Apple, etc

ZaraW · 14/09/2019 06:18

I never jumped on the bandwagon. I've been using HTC for years. My HTC Ultra was bought in the sale for £250.

maxybrown · 14/09/2019 06:38

I don't get Apple at all. Had to use Mac in work and have had an iPad that was secondhand. Just don't get the hype. I prefer stock android or as close to stock as I can get. So wouldn't have Samsung as comes with too much bloat.

It's interesting people saying they're simple to use etc. I think they're actually over complicated when they don't need to be. I find Samsung the same. There have been a few instances recently where my friend has asked me for help with her iPhone and the methods to do the same thing on my android are much quicker and simpler. I just find it's too much hype. Never appealed to me at all.

Whoever said her kids have iPhones as school blocks signal. Presumably they have access to school WiFi then as iMessage uses internet connection. Therefore obviously WhatsApp would also work.
