to think that 2nd hand Vape smoke is worse than cigarette smoke

Aibu that vape smoke clouds have become more pungent and more dense in recent times. I was just walking down the road and had no choice but to breathe this sweet smelling nicotine in. The cloud was enormous and stayed around for sometime. AIBU to feel as though it's actually more annoying than cigarette smoke.

It’s as rank as cigarette smoke.

Fucking disgusting and makes me feel sick

Gort · 12/09/2019 12:10

I suppose if smoke annoys you then vapour will too. From a health perspective far better vapour than smoke, little if any nicotine in exhaled vapour and anyway "While nicotine is the addictive substance in cigarettes, it is relatively harmless."

I loathe it, I do not want to be enveloped in a sickly sweet vapour anymore than cigarette or cigar smoke. How do you escape it though?

flapslack · 12/09/2019 12:14

"simply walk around"

Sure!

Idontwanttotalk · 12/09/2019 12:14

It may be annoying as the clouds seem to be huge but cigarette smoke may be far more dangerous. Of course, none of us really know.

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 12/09/2019 12:15

It might be annoying, but it doesn’t trigger my asthma, so I’d definitely prefer vaping.

Madfrogs · 12/09/2019 12:22

Poor smokers trying to quit can’t do right for doing wrong. Banished outside of pubs, complaints when it’s warm by the non smokers, smoking outside complaints anywhere as someone may walk by and inhale second hand smoke.

Decide to go to vaping as it’s better and a gate way to quitting and nope that’s not good enough either as the candyfloss (replace with any flavour) 0.3mg nicotine juice doesn’t smell nice enough or dares to even smell at all 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Madfrogs · 12/09/2019 12:23

Do you Have the reaction when you walk by a teenager covered in lynx Africa that’s invading your space and lungs.... or is it just smokers and vaping that annoy you?

Can't speak for the op, but I don't generally notice what scents people are wearing when I walk past them. If they were actually emptying a spray can of it in front of my face, yes I'd take issue with it.

It's the difference between someone smelling of cigarettes and someone blowing out a cloud of cigarette smoke.

Puppytooth · 12/09/2019 12:30

NHS website: So far, there is no evidence that vaping causes harm to other people around you. The available evidence indicates that any risk of harm is extremely low, especially when compared with secondhand tobacco smoke.

So yes you are being unreasonable in thinking its actually worse than cigarette smoke.

BoomyBooms · 12/09/2019 12:30

YABU. There is zero evidence of any harm to others caused by second hand vape exposure, and plenty of evidence of harm from second hand and third hand cigarette smoke. The vape clouds actually give off a similar amount of vape as cigarettes do, it's just that you can only see 20% of cigarette smoke. The remaining 80% of chemical fumes are invisible. Both are annoying if you're not a smoker or vaper but smoke is way, way worse.

flapslack · 12/09/2019 12:32

I have never walked behind someone spraying Lynx in huge quantities into the air. If I did I'd probably think it weird and move on. If it was a trend and I was often walking behind people spraying deodorants into the air the smell would start to bother me.

OP posts:
Gort · 12/09/2019 12:34

I find it odd that people get aggravated by basically harmless clouds of fruit flavoured vapour yet seem quite content to wander around uncomplaining inhaling invisible, odourless, harmful air pollution.

flapslack · 12/09/2019 12:37

Gort
I think you'll find people are very active in stopping all sorts of pollution.

ALoadOfTwaddle · 12/09/2019 12:37

No evidence of harm doesn't equate to unharmful.

It is conclusively less harmful than cigarette smoke, of course.

MelonSlice · 12/09/2019 12:38

No doubt the OP drives a diesel.

ALoadOfTwaddle · 12/09/2019 12:38

*harmless not unharmful.

When does this baby brain thing go away anyway?

Lunafortheloveogod · 12/09/2019 12:39

@Madfrogs if you’re spraying it I’ll have an asthma attack actually and if you spray the dark chocolate version I’ll come out in hives.. some overly scented people make my throat feel weird to be honest.

@Gort image now being allergic to random pockets of air. I don’t like smoke but I’d rather not have a baby have an anaphylactic reaction because some asshat needs to produce a giant cloud to look cool, there are vapes that don’t produce half as much or barely any but it seems the “cool” ones are smoke machines that fit in your pocket.

Neveam · 12/09/2019 12:44

I think they pay extra for 'big clouds', it's a thing.

And they do contain nicotine but there's some that don't. And that's just a waste of money.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/09/2019 12:47

FFS! It's a smell, food flavouring.

And all the disingenuous posters who can't smell Lynx etc!! Do you wear perfume or similar? Many poeple have instant reactions ot hevily fragranced products, even a new washing up liquid can set me off!

I get immediately physically bothered by perfumes, body sprays etc... on the person.. if I smell them. But whilst I notice a vape smell it doesn't set me my eyes or throat off. Less than 2% of UK vapers have reported any signs of propylene glycol intolerance....

ALoadOfTwaddle · 12/09/2019 12:49

Less than 2% of UK vapers have reported any signs of propylene glycol intolerance....

And what percentage of non-vapers? It's like saying that less than 2% of gum chewers are allergic to gum....

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/09/2019 12:49

And they do contain nicotine but there's some that don't. And that's just a waste of money. I think you've misunderstood. The nicotine does not get released nto the atmosphere... and vaping has helped many more people quit smoking than any other set of therapies put together - she says having spent 20 years working in a Support to Quit centre.

ALoadOfTwaddle · 12/09/2019 12:50

Also, 2% of the 2.9 million vapers is about 58,000 people. Not insignificant really.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/09/2019 12:51

And what percentage of non-vapers? It's like saying that less than 2% of gum chewers are allergic to gum.... Erm... oh never mind! If you don't want to hear it...

ALoadOfTwaddle · 12/09/2019 12:54

If you don't want to hear it..

I'm not really that bothered by this particular issue tbh. I just enjoy the discussion.
