Thread Deletion

AnneKipanki · 11/09/2019 21:22

AIBU in thinking that some threads are deleted because OP does not like the answers they are getting?

OP posts:
LoveThatJazz · 11/09/2019 21:26

MNHQ won't delete threads on whim, as a general rule there would need to be a very good reason to get a deletion.

Sparklingbrook · 11/09/2019 21:28

YANBU

Ravenblack · 11/09/2019 21:32

@AnneKipanki

You can always tell the ones where the OP doesn't like the answers they're getting... The deletion message is 'the OP has some 'privacy' concerns.' Wink

She mentioned a hobby her DH has (that 10 million other men have!) and she claims she thinks that will identify her. Wink

AnneKipanki · 11/09/2019 21:40

some
I am sure there are many threads that are deleted because of genuine concerns of identification or pending court cases .
However I do think there are some that are deleted for reasons that are perhaps not justified.

OP posts:
Grambler · 11/09/2019 21:41

The gay not very interested boyfriend one has gone as well. I don't think that's because she doesn't like the answers - she gets the same advice every time and just comes back a few months later.

Howlovely · 11/09/2019 21:48

The deletion messages seem to have disappeared too. Now all there is is an 'Oops' message. Sorry to derail the thread OP, but does anyone know why?

I noticed the one about the sister getting drunk on holiday in France has gone and I wondered if it was because nobody agreed with the OP. If someone has genuine concerns then of course a thread should be deleted but I reckon a lot of the time it is ranty thread regret.

AnneKipanki · 11/09/2019 21:56

A thread I was on today was deleted with the message 'inconsistencies " in the postings .
I have not had that before.

OP posts:
Ravenblack · 11/09/2019 22:05

@Howlovely I think the issue is fixed now. The deletion message is back. See if this works for ya!

I must admit under an old username- I had a thread deleted, that stupidly had my name, surname, and my neighbors name on it deleted, I even had a pm saying hi ‘tinyandpetite’ it’s mrs xxx from number 13 why are you on here!!

Tinyandpetite · 11/09/2019 22:14

Neighbours name on the pic on thread, not my neighbors name as my username.

DramaAlpaca · 11/09/2019 22:17

'Inconsistencies in the postings' suggests MNHQ thought the OP was a troll so that's why they deleted it.

HeadintheiClouds · 11/09/2019 22:17

That may have been true once upon a time, LoveThatJazz, but it definitely isn’t now.

Grambler · 11/09/2019 22:19

Here's an "inconsistencies" message. If anything it was the most consistent OP ever, as it was instantly recognisable as the same OP despite multiple name changes.

The DH hobby is always cycling, or possibly golf. Grin

Leftielefterson · 11/09/2019 22:19

Tbh I’m glad some posts get deleted especially when they are created by trolls. I reported a thread in Aibu today as it didn’t seem genuine and was created to cause upset. It got zapped but I don’t think it had the deletion message. It’s gone and that’s all that matters I guess.

ColaFreezePop · 11/09/2019 22:25

She mentioned a hobby her DH has (that 10 million other men have!) and she claims she thinks that will identify her.

Football, rugby, cycling (all sorts), running (all sorts), triathlon, fishing, martial arts (generic), swimming, weight lifting, ....

The only hobbies I can think of that men (and women) I know do that are unusual normally have para- or wheelchair- in front of them. Even then miss that bit out and they sound like everyone else.

AnneKipanki · 11/09/2019 22:33

I agree with you there @Grambler

OP posts:
Howlovely · 12/09/2019 06:53

@Ravenblack thank you!

AnAC12UCOinanOCG · 12/09/2019 06:56

MNHQ won't delete threads on whim,

Yes they will. All the time.

Snog · 12/09/2019 07:19

I had one deleted last week, first time after 18 years of mumsnetting and I don't know why.

AnneKipanki · 12/09/2019 07:28

Did you Snog ?
At one point , I had loads deleted ( not personally, as OP.
They were trolls and I did post " only here for the deletion message).
I did get a bit frustrated the other day when one was deleted and I could really see no reason for it .

OP posts:
PegasusReturns · 12/09/2019 07:35

Threads are deleted all the time these days for vague privacy concerns, which always amounts to "I don't like what I've been told".

Years ago I had some really serious concerns about my privacy. Id been contacted by someone who recognised me and threatened me. I asked MN to delete and they refused. I had to go to the police as it was part of a campaign of harassment.

AnneKipanki · 12/09/2019 08:16

That must have been horrendous @PegasusReturns

LoveThatJazz
MNHQ won't delete threads on whim, as a general rule there would need to be a very good reason to get a deletion.

That used to be the case but no longer true. The OP doesn't get the answers she wants, she flounces and asks them to delete the thread and MNHQ give a rubbish reason like the OP fears it's outing when all we've been told is she is married with two children. It's ridiculous.

BeepBeeeep · 12/09/2019 09:47

I hate it when I'm reading a thread and when I click on the next page and.........poof, it's gone!

The ones who ask for a thread to be taken down due to it not going their way.
AIBU?
Yes
But, but...

Flounce. Don't let the door hit your arse on the way outm

AnneKipanki · 12/09/2019 09:57

Haha , I will ask for thread to be deleted. Grin
