AIBU to not understand why everyone likes this programme so much?

DH watches it and literally every time I walk in it is just people screaming obscenities at each other, hurting each other, or killing each other. Literally every time.

What is the appeal?

I have tried and tried to get into it. Watched all of the first series and some of the second, but the accents. MY GOD the awful, awful accents.

I just can't get past them. They're so annoying.

My sister's think I am fucking mad not to be hooked, but just no. I can't.

Cillian comes across as a nice bloke in interviews.

He really does. I'm sure I read somewhere that it takes him a while to detach from Tommy and be himself again because he's such a horrible character.

Weezol · 09/09/2019 15:08

I only fancy Aiden Gillen as Aberama Gold!

CathyorClaire · 09/09/2019 15:14

I've started series 3 and am struggling gamely on with it mainly because I've now invested too much time not to Hmm but it's like pulling teeth. I'm usually easily hooked on popular TV when I get round to it but really have no idea how this one's hit the spot.

MidCenturyVintageWoman · 09/09/2019 15:21

DH likes it, I can take it or leave it, mainly because I love the style of it, the costumes and the sets. The storylines are Corrie with guns and swearing. DH is a Brummie born and bred and we lived there for 9 years, so we both find the accents laughable. We both love the local references though. The Friends Meeting House featured in last week's episode was just down the road from our house! (they didn't use the actual building though).

Yaflamingalah · 09/09/2019 16:40

@CathyorClaire season 3 is the worst IMO. Season 4 is great.

EvenPhilip · 09/09/2019 16:46

Don't get excited about Tom Hardy in it, he's shite.

lvsel · 09/09/2019 16:48

My partner was watching this yesterday I was on my phone. From what you describe sounds like my type of program lol

EvenPhilip · 09/09/2019 16:49

Helen McCrory 'spellbinding ' you have got to be kidding meGrin

itsme · 09/09/2019 16:49

I have just finished series 4, loved the plot twist in ep 6. Starting the new series later. I'm too invested in this now to stop. But imo s3 wasnt great with the Russians. I got bored of that quite quickly but had to find out to continue on to s4. I wasnt bothered about it at first when it came out, but my bf got me hooked.

Fantababy · 09/09/2019 19:57

Tom Hardy's brilliant (in a so bad it's good way). I find him hilarious.

(I can't get over his CBeebies bedtime story either.)

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 09/09/2019 20:03

The haircut has helped.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 09/09/2019 20:03

Meant to add a Grin

malificent7 · 09/09/2019 21:34

Love Peaky Blinders and most of the characters but the accents are shite!

Weezol · 10/09/2019 21:05

I can't get over his CBeebies bedtime story either Say what now?

PB is a bad influence on me. Earlier on today I told the cat I was going to 'do the fookin shoppin'.

Forgivable · 10/09/2019 21:11

Enjoyed all the other seasons but finding this one repetitive and blah. I would consider myself a fan but yes, there are catch phrases that are trotted out far too often and the characters are predictable now. I think it's had its time. I will try to watch this series but it doesn't bother me.

LocSeeTan · 11/12/2022 20:19

I'm a Wolverhampton girl though and through and the accents make my toes curl
