Ulcers on lady bits

Maddie2019 · 07/09/2019 20:17

Hi all, sorry if this is TMI but I’m worried sick and can’t find anything relevant online so hoping one of you may of experienced this or has some advice.

I’ve had sore lady bits for a week or so, when I looked I could see ulcers!! I went straight to the out of hours GP and she said it wasn’t STI related, or anything like she had quite seen. She said they were literally the same ulcers you get in your mouth but on your gentials instead.

I need to arrange an appointment on Monday with the hospital, but I know how bad waiting times are and I’m so anxious I needed some thoughts beforehand.

Sorry for how gross this is, I’m hoping someone can help! Blush

Right. I think that what you need to do right now is step away from Google and this discussion. You've decided to go to a GUM Clinic for peace of mind. decision made. And it is highly unlikely that it will take another two years to diagnose you. What you need to do now is listen to some relaxing music, read a book, have a warm bath or shower and download type the Calm app. Thinking about this anymore will not bring peace of mind because no one here is qualified to diagnose you. So, you have made a plan. Now you can forget about it until Monday and at least make the most of your Sunday!

DontForgetToDeadhead · 07/09/2019 21:26

I came on to say behcets too.

81Byerley · 07/09/2019 21:35

I wonder if it could be Lichen Planus? I have it in my mouth, and the hospital always ask me if I have genital Lichen Planus as well. It's very sore in my mouth, can't imagine how it must be on your genitals. I think it's an auto immune disease.

INeedNewShoes · 07/09/2019 21:42

I'd get your IBD team on the case OP.

I have UC and I think that having such an autoimmune condition and the medications that come with it can prompt symptoms that need looking at by someone who will constantly have in the back of their mind all of the secondary conditions that are associated with IBD.

And I'm going to follow my own advice and contact my own IBD team, prompted by your thread, so thank you! I've very recently been diagnosed with lichen sclerosis which is yet another embarrassing condition affecting the skin down below.

I would also take parallel action and go to your local sexual health clinic. They are the experts in abnormalities on the genitals and will do thorough exam and testing (and they're very good at making it all non-embarrassing because this stuff is their bread & butter!)

Ornery · 07/09/2019 21:51

I was going to suggest lichen planus as well. Auto-immune issues are a literal pain in all sorts of places when they flare.

spiderlight · 07/09/2019 21:55

I was going to ask you about IBD as soon as I read your original post. I have UC as well and I get terrible mouth and lip ulcers during a flare, and also randomly sore lady-bits. Hopefully your IBD nurse will be able to advise on Monday. Practically every weird thing that has happened to my body over the years has ended up being 'a colitis thing', but make sure you don't let them palm you off with that without proper checks.

Justsaynonow · 07/09/2019 21:56

I used to get these from scratching, and I think they were more apt to happen in warm (sweaty) weather.

Do you have a sitz bath to use? If not, a regualr bath will do. Soaking in warm salty water can provide some relief - then pat dry, making sure you get in all the folds. Also, exposure to air/ not wearing underwear while sleeping can help. Think I also used polysporin with pain reliever.

Jubba · 07/09/2019 22:03

I have bechets!!!

But it does look like herpes. Herpes can take 10 years to come out. So you can have a sexual contact with someone up to 10 years ago

If it’s painful I would bet it on herpes. Or bechets. Not a lot you can do for them. Antivirals sometimes help.

Jubba · 07/09/2019 22:04

Autocorrect....

loutypips · 07/09/2019 22:13

Hmmm I have UC and suffer with mouth ulcers all the time. I've had a couple down below before too when in a flare, I just assumed it was due to going to the loo twenty times a day, but it seems as if it's a common thing!

Rosere · 07/09/2019 22:29

UC can make you prone to sores. Even coeliac disease can manifest as ulcers altho tho only one's I've seen for it were throat. Definitely get GUM to have a look at you anyway, they are not just for STDs, they manage the whole GU system so they'll be able to suggest measures to keep you comfortable . Most centres are drop in. Please don't worry OP and get checked out on Mon👍

Pikapikachooo · 07/09/2019 22:53

You need a GUM clinic , get there early morning before they open . Will test you there

Pikapikachooo · 07/09/2019 22:54

My herpes took years (like years !) to
Come
Out

TheRebelAlliance · 07/09/2019 23:00

Interesting.

I have UC. I had a bowel resection 30 years ago to reduce.

3 years ago I got sores and itching (just post menopause) Went through 2 years of failed diagnosis and no treatment, it was an awful illness.

Someone on here suggested Lichen sclerosus. I googled it and it fitted. GP prescribed a cream, (4th kind they had tried`) and it was gone within 2 weeks,

They said it was auto immune related as Uc is.

LaBelleSauvage · 07/09/2019 23:29

I'm a doctor:

  • ignore all the diagnoses on here, call for a same day appointment at the sexual health clinic on Monday morning like your gmed doctor advised. They reserve appointments for on-the-day cases. Nobody on here can tell you what it is.

Something like sudocrem won't do any harm and can help with the stinging as it contains a mild topical anaesthetic.

Try not to worry. There are various things it could be.

Emmas1985 · 08/09/2019 08:16

Posters saying it’s an sti it’s not. OP ulcerative colitis is not basically chrons, they are different conditions with different treatments, what you have now in terms of the ulcers is related to it. It’s hard to diagnose, my friend has been treated for chrons for 16 years wrongly! They tend to go within a week m, stress and periods don’t help. Feel better soon

MunchyMunchkin · 08/09/2019 08:32

OP - walk in to a GUM clinic tomorrow. You shouldn’t be turned away with genital ulcers (we wouldn’t turn anyone away with this history in my service)
They will examine and swab for herpes, bloods for syphilis (less likely as multiple and long term relationship). If both of those negative they will explore other causes of genital ulcers like behcets.
They should give you some aciclovir in the meantime (OOH should really have done this)
Take ibuprofen if you can and salt baths are helpful.

2girlsandagap · 08/09/2019 14:55

I have behcets. The ulcers are the worst!! Ask the doctor for steroid cream- betnovate or dermovate. Don’t be fobbed off with canesten for thrush or anti virals for herpes like acilovor. Lukewarm baths. Cotton underwear. They can and will scar if you don’t catch them early on. Sweating and seams on jeans will irritate them as well.

MunchyMunchkin · 08/09/2019 16:08

Please don’t put steroids on it until you have a diagnosis. If it is herpes it will make it much much worse.
Realistically herpes is a much more common diagnosis than behcets. So needs to be considered and ruled out first.

Maddie2019 · 12/09/2019 20:28

Hi all, thanks for your help!
Turns out it’s a strep A infection which has caused cellulites on my lady bits!

Signed of work with a ton of antibiotics! Thanks for your help ladies!

Thanks for letting us know OP. I had never heard of Strep A causing this. Great that you got seen and treated and hope things feel better for you soon

Jojowash · 12/09/2019 20:57

Herpes - they work just like mouth ulcers same virus but slightly different version. Google vaginal herpes and click images. See if they are similar. Good luck x

DontFeedTheCatCake · 12/09/2019 21:03

It's not herpes, the OP has already said Confused. Got to love armchair diagnoses, especially those with a kiss at the end!

SinkGirl · 12/09/2019 21:07

This has happened to me three times. First when I was a late teenager, last time when I was pregnant in my mid 30s. Went to STI clinic every time (even though highly unlikely) - they all insisted it definitely was not herpes, but swabbed to reassure me and it wasn’t. They couldn’t tell me what it was though. They ruled out every STI.

I have endometriosis and weirdly having seen a video of my last lap, my endo deposits are usually clear / slightly yellow and look exactly like what I had. I don’t know if that’s what it is, but I don’t think so because each time they just went.
