AIBU to ask which diet plan would work for my circumstances?

I have M.E. So can’t get out to a slimming club meeting. I also cannot exercise at all, I barely even walk any distance. I use a mobility scooter. I am early sixties and nearly 15 stone. I know I must lose weight but how would you approach it in my circumstances?

Try intermittent fasting, eat only for 8 hours of the day and fast for 16 hours. I find it easy to stick to as I still eat what I want. Good luck.

CrystalShark · 06/09/2019 19:38

You don’t need a ‘diet plan’. You also don’t need to exercise to lose weight. Just need to create a calorie deficit, which can be done via diet.

I always recommend simple calorie counting using an app like MyFitnessPal. It talks you through what your current weight and height and activity level is, what your goal weight is and how fast you want to reach it and gives you a calorie goal for the day.

It’s so easy and straightforward, free, can eat what you like as long as you don’t exceed the calorie intake for the day. I’ve lost weight on it and kept it off.

Yoohoo16 · 06/09/2019 19:42

My fitness pal. Best ‘diet’ I’ve ever done.

Maykid · 06/09/2019 19:46

My Fitness Pal sounds ideal. I must admit I’ve never liked the idea of going to a group even if I could. I would rather work on it at home.

Thank you.

5:2 is also good. Then you feel like you are only dieting twice a week.

TidyDancer · 06/09/2019 19:53

Definitely recommend my fitness pal. If the budget stretches I would go for the premium option too. It's got a lot of info nutrition wise that you don't get through other apps. I don't like groups such as slimming world or weight watchers. I don't think they are long term sustainable and don't teach good habits.

Maykid · 06/09/2019 19:56

Will look into the premium option.
I could also incorporate other ideas which have been suggested whilst still calorie counting.

I use myfitnesspal for calorie counting, it works for me.

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 06/09/2019 20:13

TeamRH on Facebook is also worth a look. It's calorie counting based on your weight, height, and body's normal calorie burn (so what it uses every day to keep you ticking along) and also takes into account protein and fibre intake (to keep you full and regular).
No food is off limits if its within your daily macro allowance, plus they're really straightforward and nice folk.

Calorie count with MyFitnessPal.

Geog1985 · 06/09/2019 20:18

My fitness pal. It’s brilliant. Just track everything!

You should speak to a professional since you have ME. Ask your go, they can send you to a dietitian or recommend somewhere where they will work with your conditions

surreysnapper · 06/09/2019 20:20

by using My Fitness Pal in conjunction with Program 10... online support, brilliant!

AlansLeftMoob · 06/09/2019 20:21

MyFitnessPal is fantastic.

Charmlight · 06/09/2019 20:22

Fast 800. It will fall off.You perhaps should check with your GP first.

Lucked · 06/09/2019 20:30

I haven’t got my head around exercise yet but 5:2 works for me with 16:8 on non fast days.

The only thing is that I am busy on my fast days and it might be more difficult if you are stuck in the house. Do you think you could fast?

I have no disability or illness but just before losing weight I was at the GP for blood tests because I was tired all the time. Even without exercise losing weight has made a difference to my energy levels. So I have my fingers for you that you can feel even a little bit better with some weight loss. Good luck.

Maykid · 06/09/2019 20:33

I hope so too, Lucked. Thanks.
And thanks to all who have replied.

Team RH for me too, I've never eaten so much on a diet before

Tippety · 06/09/2019 20:40

My fitness Pal is good, the app will ask you for full access to more or less everything in your phone though so check when you download it if you are happy with that. I usually just make a note and keep a tally.

NiceAnd · 06/09/2019 20:42

Calorie count with MyFitnessPal. Weigh and record EVERY SINGLE THING. I’d start at 1300 and see what happens. Weigh yourself every day and see if you are losing weight. If you aren’t then drop the calories to 1200. If you are losing weight at a sensible rate then carry on.

Personally I’d go for slow and steady weight loss.

ragged · 06/09/2019 20:42

Lots of meal planning in advance, tbh. Calc the calories in advance. Measure the portions out. You probably don't need more than about 1200/day so find ways to add flavour not fat. Make what you eat very tasty (lots of vegetable flavours, salad).

wineandroses1 · 06/09/2019 20:45

Low carb diet. Joined the thread on Mumsnet. Fab amount of advice. I found it very easy as you can eat great food, including protein, fat, green veg/salad. All very tasty. I lost 5 stones. I still fall off the wagon but a few weeks low carbing does the trick. And I genuinely don’t like really carby foods these days. I also feel very well in myself. Clearly carbs don’t agree with me.

Intermittent Fasting. It is fantastic. So easy. So successful. I love it.

Watch these videos. Even if you don't want to do fasting you have had the fun of looking at a hot man for 30 mins.
