To think that ‘alternative’ parenting styles really aren’t that unusual?

I’m in a few Facebook groups for BLW, baby-wearing, cloth nappies, breastfeeding etc. (Which I mostly ignore unless I have a specific question about something.) I’ve noticed that people seem to love making a drama about how different, or even objectionable, other people find their choices. Maybe I just live in a complete bubble but I have never had a funny look or any comments about any of these things. Most people own at least a Baby Bjorn carrier these days, don’t they? Health visitors usually recommend baby led weaning or at least offering finger foods early on? Breast feeding is possibly a slightly more ‘controversial’ topic in public but is still pretty mainstream? And I’ve only ever had positive comments about DS’ cloth nappies.

AIBU to think that people just like drama or to feel special?

Ohh and the hypnobirthing thing, I didn't realised I took on the hypnobirthing techniques when I had my first and was due with my second, It all just felt pretty natural and logical

It really does depend on your circles and what's the norm.
SIL BF until the kids were nearly 4 and she "co sleeps"with one still now think 7-9 year olds.
But she was horrified with our use of the sling as was worried about suffocation and comfortableness.

So she has a lot of "alternative" methods but they wasn't a conscious choice or called extended breastfeeding or co sleeping, it was just what felt natural to her? And the sling evidently doesn't?

I did most/all of those things in OP and in no way did I consider I had a "parenting style", or was alternative in any way.

I think social Media means everything has to be a THING now.

Though I am still surprised at all the anti bf hoo ha we see everywhere.
