To think this is okay? Holiday Park related

My parents are currently staying at a caravan park near Scarborough. I dropped them off on Monday and will be picking them up on Friday. We were initially told that check out was at 12 however when we got to the site it's actually 10am.

It's about 90 miles one way to pick them up and I'm worried that I won't get to the site on time. Mam has suggested I drive down on Thursday night and sleep in the van with them. I think this sounds like a good idea rather than risking traffic (I got stuck for ages on the a171 behind a lorry on the way back due to the road conditions meaning it was impossible to overtake!) it took me four and a half hours to get home. I really don't want to get caught in traffic because they need help to pack up (so couldn't check out by themselves then we meet later on the site.)

I mentioned this to my friend who normally house sits for me and she thinks I'm being unreasonable and that the van is just for my parents and I'm being unethical by staying for one night.

What do you think?

Of course it's ok. If you want to use the club house etc you can get a guest day pass too

kateandme · 04/09/2019 15:01

your doing a lovely thing op.dont listen to her on this one.youd be doing everything right by continuing with the plan you had.

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/09/2019 15:03

I also think you should inform the site. They may try to charge you to amend the booking. But as you were given incorrect information they should do this foc.

Eliza
I expect ops parents sleep separately of course.

Sadnessandlight · 04/09/2019 15:04

It is absolutely fine honestly. We have stayed at Haven, my Dad has driven us down and stayed overnight and driven back.
We've also added people on and bought another pass for the entertainment. As long as the caravan is not overcrowded it isn't a problem.
Security on site might ask you where you are going. You just say which caravan and pitch. My Dad has done this.

amibeingacunexttuesday · 04/09/2019 15:06

So what about privately owned caravans, does haven know who is staying in all the privately owned caravans at any one time? I doubt it for all those scare mongering about elf and safety and fires HmmConfused.

Justanotherfemale · 04/09/2019 15:15

Why would you want to take a sleeping bag and sleep in the lounge when there are effectively three beds?

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 04/09/2019 15:18

Never really understood the whole “what if a fire happens” argument. It’s a holiday park full of caravans some people will be in a venue watching a one direction tribute, others will of left site and be in the local area. How on Earth in the event of a fire could they possibly know which caravans have people in and which don’t.....

In the event of a fire, I am bloody sure emergency services check EVERY single room of a caravan. They don’t say well we’ve got Susan and John so no need to check bedroom 3.

“What if a fire happens” really is like the “log it with the police” responses some posters give in here

QuestionableMouse · 04/09/2019 15:24

Sleeping in the lounge because I'm fairly sure my mam will be using the second bedroom.

Also dad snores and I don't want to be right next to that all night 😂

Thanks everyone. I've stayed at Haven quite a few times now but I've always been the main guest/person who booked so this is a bit different.

Those citing H&S, how does that work for owner occupiers?

Reception don’t count people in and out.

Sadnessandlight · 04/09/2019 15:29

In regards to fire we know someone who owns a caravan on a haven site.
Sometimes they go as a couple, sometimes with the kids and grandkids. I'm guessing Haven dont have a clue how many they bring.

historyrocks · 04/09/2019 15:29

OP, the sofa in the lounge should open out into a double bed.

tempester28 · 04/09/2019 15:34

It's not a problem. You pay per caravan. Also you may by drinks /food at the site so from their point of view you will be be welcome on the site.

thenightsky · 04/09/2019 15:35

Could they not get a late check out?

GreatWesternValkyrie · 04/09/2019 15:37

She's house sitting for me while I go down so thinks that gives her a say?

Well, here’s a newsflash for her, it doesn’t!

Have you tried calling the park to ask if a later check out is an option? Or what they could suggest if you were held up?

ElizaDee · 04/09/2019 15:40

Reception don’t count people in and out.

Some parks do track number plates going in and out now, so that might give them half an idea, although it wouldn't be accurate obviously.

UnfamousPoster · 04/09/2019 15:42

This is exactly the reason that Haven charge for their leisure pass. They charge per caravan and only really care if people are sneaking in to the bar without having paid a ridiculous daily fee.

I'd maybe mention it in passing but very much doubt they'll have an issue with it. I happened to be in the same county as my parents when they were on holiday once and dropped in and stayed the night in their caravan. They just told the people at reception out of courtesy, but they didn't mind at all.

And I'd prefer the sofa over those tiny 2'6" beds in the second bedroom - it's wider! My DP was bed hogging last time we went (used to a SuperKing at home) so I took myself off to the lounge. Best sleep I had all week! Grin

mystupidmistake · 04/09/2019 15:44

May be an issue with insurance if something was to happen to you in caravan

mumto2teenagers · 04/09/2019 15:44

YANBU, they have paid for the caravan, not per person.

doublesheesh · 04/09/2019 15:49

Weird 'friend'.

Welltroddenpath · 04/09/2019 15:54

It’s its like Haven then most caravans sleep about 8 people. As said upthread it’s per caravan, they aren’t at max capacity and you aren’t using the pool etc which normally is PP. so no issue at all

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 04/09/2019 15:57

Unethical? Wow!

I used to work at a Haven site a long long time ago. No one had any idea who slept over in the staff caravans. Thank god...

stucknoue · 04/09/2019 15:59

It's fine, you pay per van

PullingMySocksUp · 04/09/2019 16:00

It’s a four berth caravan so it’s fine. Smile

Deathraystare · 04/09/2019 16:01

Wow imagine if your parents were able bodied and fancied a threesome if they'd got lucky one night!!!

onlyoneoftheregimentinstep · 04/09/2019 16:02

We have a caravan on a holiday park and often book additional caravans for family and friends. You pay per caravan not per person, so if you're at all worried about staying just get your parents to phone up and add you to the booking. It won't cost any more.
