Is this cheeky fuckery?

I've name changed, she's on here Grin

There's a baby/toddler of the year competition and the local newspaper has a token inside you use to vote for your favourite.

CF has tagged over 80 of us insisting we all buy multiple copies and fill out the tokens so her baby wins. If we don't want to buy copies ourselves we can send her a paypal payment and she will do it for us.

On a certain day there are double tokens so we have been warned that we WILL be pestered to buy several more copies each and fill them out.

Kindly though she's offered to collect filled out tokens though as she doesn't drive I have no idea who will be lumbered with that fabulous task.

No 'Hi I'm entering X into the baby/toddler of the year competition I'd love it if you voted for my baby' just told we must buy several copies each.

This is fine cheeky fuckery right?

All get together and vote for a different baby. Pretend that you got confused.

Weezol · 02/09/2019 22:19

My favourite 'fix':

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 02/09/2019 22:22

Disgusted that you'd label someone's baby as 'the ugliest child'

Really? Even my own looked like Gollum when she popped out. Stunner now, but some babies seriously do have a face only their folks love.

CorBlimeyGovenor · 02/09/2019 22:25

@gamerchick

Am laughing at the police 'request'! That's when I would also probably cave - during an interrogation with bad cops.

OhMsBeliever · 02/09/2019 22:27

I remember entering my kids for the baby contest the local paper ran. They didn't used to do those token things, I can't remember how it worked for my older ones. Then they started doing tokens. But I couldn't even be bothered to vote for my own kids Blush so no way would I vote for someone else's, let alone multiple times.

I only did it for the cheap pics, and to keep a copy of the paper with them in to show them when they're older.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 02/09/2019 22:27

Poor child sad The mother obviously thinks that her child isn't bonny enough to win without cheating.

You’re taking the competition at face value- it’s never the cutest baby that wins! It’s the one with the granny that works down the pub who gets all the regulars to enter, or the one with the auntie that nags all her mates on social media!

Weezol · 02/09/2019 22:31

There is a competition like this in my local picture. My favourites are always the kids who clearly want no part of it and look monumentally pissed off.

Jinxed2 · 02/09/2019 22:32

Like you’d want your baby to win because you’d told everyone they had to vote! Surely it only means something if they win because randomers also think they are cute?!

MyFriendGiraffrey · 02/09/2019 22:34

@TerribleCustomerCervix yeah I get that really. Just hoping that OPs CF reads the thread and feels a pang of shame Grin

CandyLeBonBon · 02/09/2019 22:34

Fucking hilarious!

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 02/09/2019 22:42

I would definitley send a link to the competition organisers - this isn't just Cheeky Fuckery, it's Cheating Cheeky Fuckery.

Ha ha ha ha ha- the whole point of the competition is to sell more copies of the paper- the organisers will be delighted!

HeadLikeAFkingOrange · 02/09/2019 22:42

I remember my XH and his GF (who was the OW) doing this in the local paper....vote for them to have "Our Dream Wedding".

The reasons were amazing.
"We've 6 children between us, so between these commitments we just can't save."
"I would love to give her the day she deserves, but our DC have to come first"

The "commitments" didn't include single penny of financial support to the DC he left with me Grin

Some people are just dirty and shameless, OP.

lemonyellowtangerine · 02/09/2019 22:43

Maybe you could set up a tactical voting website to assist the other 80 people and tag them all in on your launch post?

Seriously though, are there no Ts and Cs for this comp or is the paper that shameless about just trying to get people to bulk buy?

jesuschristwtf · 02/09/2019 22:43

Oh dear - every mother wants their baby to be cutest ever, best looking, winner of god knows fucking what. I know a few like this - always asking me to tag their kids with special hashtags etc. Of course all of them are child models too 😂 no OP yanbu. She’s crazy.

acatcalledjohn · 02/09/2019 22:44

Does she "buy" her way through the rest of life too?

CorBlimeyGovenor · 02/09/2019 22:45

Can you post a copy/link to the paper and then we could hold our own Mumsnet non cheating vote for the cutest baby. I'm guessing hers won't win.

CorBlimeyGovenor · 02/09/2019 22:48

@HeadLikeAFkingOrange

Am laughing so much. I know it's not funny really and massively galling, but what an absolute nerve and no shame! Also sounds as tacky as hell. Basically begging.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 02/09/2019 22:50

is the paper that shameless about just trying to get people to bulk buy?

Of course! That is literally the point of running the competition!

Beautiful3 · 02/09/2019 22:51

Just keep very quiet.

RosaWaiting · 02/09/2019 22:53

“baby of the year” translated into English

“Everything that’s wrong with humanity”.

Nothingcomesforfree · 02/09/2019 23:04

Pinkyyy I would always vote for the ugliest baby too, on principle. It nothing else it shows their parents adore them .
The idea that looks are even worth voting on is nuts.

BingBongBay · 02/09/2019 23:12

Bloody hell. This is a basically a beauty competition for babies?! What a start in life. I don't care if you get fifty free high quality photoshoots for it, pitting babies against one another in a competition is shitty.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 02/09/2019 23:15

BingBongBay “Bonny baby” competitions are as old as the hills!

Durgasarrow · 02/09/2019 23:25

How rude of you not to buy multiple copies of newspaper and fill out form to nominate her baby! She asked, after all!

incognito1976 · 02/09/2019 23:44

Whenever anyone asks me to vote online for their baby in those competitions I always just pick some other baby at random.
