Is this cheeky fuckery?

I've name changed, she's on here Grin

There's a baby/toddler of the year competition and the local newspaper has a token inside you use to vote for your favourite.

CF has tagged over 80 of us insisting we all buy multiple copies and fill out the tokens so her baby wins. If we don't want to buy copies ourselves we can send her a paypal payment and she will do it for us.

On a certain day there are double tokens so we have been warned that we WILL be pestered to buy several more copies each and fill them out.

Kindly though she's offered to collect filled out tokens though as she doesn't drive I have no idea who will be lumbered with that fabulous task.

No 'Hi I'm entering X into the baby/toddler of the year competition I'd love it if you voted for my baby' just told we must buy several copies each.

This is fine cheeky fuckery right?

Oh god that’s worse!! I completely misread as her offering to pay

Jeez that is cheeky

Pinkyyy · 02/09/2019 21:46

Why would you want anything to do with these competitions? I wouldn't even vote.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 02/09/2019 21:47

Just here incase the mnetter that this post is about jumps on the thread Grin 🍿

jadeyfly · 02/09/2019 21:48

@SpringFan the paper wouldn't care, they are getting sales

SouthWestmom · 02/09/2019 21:49

Yeah i think the point is to increase sales not actually locate the cutest baby in 'insert county'

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 02/09/2019 21:50

I'd spefically vote the ugliest baby in the competition as many times as I could afford to try and keep her child from winning.

Urskeks · 02/09/2019 21:52

I hate these so much. I naively went along with my eldest entering one, and once u got talking to other mums in the area I discovered the token thing and worked out that the whole point is so that people make many duplicate purchases..... I don't believe for a minute that the cutest kid has EVER won one of these.

If the CF is reading this thread, you're rather revolting and there's more to life than falsely winning a competition.

ohfourfoxache · 02/09/2019 21:52

Bloody hell, are people like these supposed to be responsible adults? Who get to vote and everything?

A lot of things are suddenly starting to make sense.....

TartanCurtains1 · 02/09/2019 21:53

Who would even enter their kid in this creepy crap? Clearly just a ploy to flog papers.

I'd just ignore. If you're buying the paper anyway, vote for another kid on principle.

DontEvenENTER · 02/09/2019 21:54

Whys everyone been so rude about the babies photo contest? I know my kid ain't a pagiant winner but why you all getting riled up about me wanting my fiends to get a token and vote? I offered to pay so how am I a cheeky fucker?

Youd be doing the same if you love your kid too!

ChocolateWhisperer · 02/09/2019 21:54

Her child is absolutely lovely, but it is cheating and very presumptuous of her to think everyone thinks the same as her. There's so many CF stories mostly I ignore because they are frequent but this, this tops the lot!

OP posts:
Bookworm4 · 02/09/2019 21:54

Does she not understand the concept of a vote?🙄 Her voting 300 times doesn’t mean her baby is the cutest, probably rotten anyhoo 🤣😉

Cryalot2 · 02/09/2019 21:57

Cheeky does not do it.
She is obviously doting over her dc, but these competitions can bring the worst out in people.

runoutofnamechanges · 02/09/2019 21:59

I'd just tip off the paper- get her DC disqualified

They won't disqualify her. They'll probably send her a personal invitation to enter again when next year's competition comes round! Grin

I don't think anyone ever has bothered to buy a stamp to send off a token to vote for the most beautiful baby in Bognor... unless they have a personal connection to the baby. I would bet that every single vote for every single baby comes from friends and family of the parents. She's doing exactly what the paper wants - buying multiple extra copies.

jadeyfly · 02/09/2019 22:00

@DontEvenENTER I'd never exploit my child in a completion like that and I can assure you I do love both my children

Pinkyyy · 02/09/2019 22:01

I can't believe it she's seen it 😂

jadeyfly · 02/09/2019 22:01

Competition *

Bouffalant · 02/09/2019 22:02

@DontEvenENTER Blatant troll parody? Or actual RL friend of OP?

If you're being satirical I apologise.

Soubriquet · 02/09/2019 22:02

It’s clear DontEven is pretending as they made the same mistake I did...

She isn’t paying. She’s willing to go and buy the newspapers to enter for you is YOU pay

Pinkyyy · 02/09/2019 22:02

I'd spefically vote the ugliest baby in the competition as many times as I could afford to try and keep her child from winning

Disgusted that you'd label someone's baby as 'the ugliest child'. These competitions are literally trash.

ChocolateWhisperer · 02/09/2019 22:02

@DontEvenENTER nice try, your grammar is awful, CF is very well schooled.

OP posts:
MyFriendGiraffrey · 02/09/2019 22:10

Poor child Sad The mother obviously thinks that her child isn't bonny enough to win without cheating. That child will grow up knowing that their mother values looks so highly and that they are such a disappointment. Shame on you CF if you're reading this!

MaxiPaddy · 02/09/2019 22:12

Meh, sometimes babies are ugly. It's not disgusting; some of them are freaky looking!

grannybiker · 02/09/2019 22:12

I've entered competitions as a bit of a hobby for a few years and the perils of a voting competition are well known.
The best entry doesn't win, the one with most obliging friends does.
People can actually buy votes. There are groups specifically set up for this.
There will be accusations of cheating.
The same applies here...

I remember one Facebook competition where the comment with most likes would be declared the winner. A group of comping friends then got together and encouraged all and sundry to 'Like' a post basically rubbishing the competition. I can't remember what happened, but vaguely recall the page changing the criteria, (This also created a huge furore!)

Boaty McBoatface springs to mind...

Pinkyyy · 02/09/2019 22:14

@MaxiPaddy there's a difference between thinking babies look strange and saying that you'd look at a list of babies and select the 'ugliest one'. Absolutely disgusting in my mind.
