To think that cherry blossom is not offensive?

We're moving soon and the house has a blank garden- just grass.

In addition to several other things, I'm planning on putting in two, dwarf cherry trees. They will be at the bottom, well away from other houses and won't grow big enough for their roots to be a problem for any buildings or block light to any windows.

I mentioned this to a friend and she thinks that falling cherry blossom will antagonise the neighbours.

Do people really get offended by a few flower petals on their lawns? Really?

Dwarf cherry trees won't be an issue; there are also Amanogawa cherries that grow tall and slim, which can be a good choice in a smaller garden, I have one and as a flowering cherry it doesn't produce fruit.

Cherry blossom trees are lovely! They only flower for a few weeks. Your friend is over-reacting. Your neighbours won't care, or certainly won't care enough to say anything.

Trees drop leaves and blossom. Birds poo. Seeds blow on the wind. Insects fly. A garden is outdoors, anyone who expects it to stay pristine is BU!

this attitude really annoys me - my in laws are like it, they are paralysed from doing ANYTHING for fear of maybe someone else might be slightly grumpy about it. Last thing was an outdoor Christmas tree in their front garden- but no in case some people didn't like outdoor lights.
I am a really kind considerate neighbour- but some people need to get over themselves- it's some lights or some petals- not noise, or dangerous behaviour.

If ever there were a 'first world' problem, THIS must be it.

Have we really reached such an appalling level of intolerance to fellow human beings as to even consider being 'offended' by fucking cherry blossom. ?

They are lovely but the flowers trigger off sneezing for me so I can’t get near them unfortunately.

Gardens are not meant to be next, tidy, sterile environments.
Petals will soon go as will leaves.
