to be pissed off that amazon is using hermes to deliver my parcel

Amazon Prime has always been great, I get a lot of deliveries and never any problems. Until now.
Parcel was to be delivered on Friday and Hermes would be the carrier.
I decided to wait in for delivery as it was Hermes and driver might not be able to work out the unattended delivery place (side door to garage).
3 days of waiting around later, still no parcel. Had emails saying they've attempted delivery twice and I should contact them, HOW IN HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO DO THAT?? Chat doesn't work, phone just refers you to online help and cuts off.
They're lying about the attempted deliveries and I want to ask why.
Amazon tell me there's a problem at the carriers distribution centre, profuse apologies ++ and £5 voucher given.
Latest is email from Hermes saying there's a problem with my address and the driver couldn't find me. Amazon gave them my address and its correct.
No wonder hermes make it impossible for people to contact them, they'd be inundated with apopleptic people Angry

Hermes are terrible and yodel drivers aggressive

underfall · 01/03/2020 15:42

I said:

”I’m wondering now what I can do if Hermes refuses to accept it or, worse, accepts it and loses it.”

It was accepted by Hermes on the day I took it to the drop-off (last Wednesday), and the tracking page has been showing as “On its way back to the retailer” ever since. The date changes, the status doesn’t. Meanwhile, on my account page on Amazon’s own website it just says “the money will be refunded when we get the item back.”

Just have to wait and see what happens I guess. It hasn’t been that long, I admit - I just hate being in the hands of Hermes. Sad

Had three things delivered by Hermes this year. First they said they’d delivered it but hadn’t, and then later said they couldn’t find my address, it came in the end about 5 days later. Second two arrived on same day, from different companies. When I left the house it was pouring with rain, and continued to rain all morning until I came home at lunch time. Parcels were propped against a plant pot outside our house- completely soaked through. In all cases trying to contact someone at Hermes was almost impossible. Like some PP I won’t buy from companies that use Hermes now.

ginghamstarfish · 01/03/2020 17:33

Yes, me too, my heart sinks when I see that it will be Hermes, and you can't know BEFORE completing the purchase. No such thing as one-day delivery round here, so I guess they give it to the cheapest company. It also applies to 'Fulfilled by Amazon' in my experience.

suffolk2 · 20/09/2020 12:33

Just had it confirmed by Amazon that Hermes is under review due to an enormous number of complaints. I see that they have to Trustpilot review sites
uk.trustpilot.com/review/new.myhermes.co.uk (Real)
uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.myhermes.co.uk (Not sure!)

zwaty · 16/06/2021 09:33

Hermes are the worst service ,because I asked driver why she couldn't inform me why she was 22 hours late ,and I had to pay for a lunch I cancelled she got abusive and refused to deliver here , I said why did t you get your boss to email me I was so stressed out ,waiting thinking she was coming all day supposed to deliver between 12am 1 pm,. I'd ordered a gazibo she wouldn't deliver it seller said because of an Agressive situation,so the gazibo is being returned to seller and I have been refunded, so this driver is dictating to Hermes ,it has such a bad reputation anyone you talk to has had a bad experience with G Ernest ,once we had a bag we ordered stuck up a tree for 2 weeks Hermes said it was signed for ,no lies the seller thought we were lying was very upsetting ,I think all sellers should not use Hermes, Yodle is good ,DFD,also Royal mail, now I won't buy off sellers using Hermes not worth the stress 👺

osbertthesyrianhamster · 16/06/2021 09:37

I refuse to buy from any vendor who uses them.

Portla · 16/06/2021 09:59

Hermes could be fantastic if they run the company decently. Honestly most drives start with all good intention told they can do the job from a car won't need a van. Then all of a sudden Hermes will dump 150+ parcels on the them. Tell them they must get them all atleast attempted today (even experienced drivers struggle to hit 20 an hour on a good day depending on the route). Its a horrible job with very little support.

Topseyt · 16/06/2021 10:00

Hermes are totally shit. I have had so many things go astray there that I am utterly dismayed if once I have ordered something online I am then informed that they will be the courier.

Earlier this year I ordered some new bedding from M & S. It cost about £180. Hermes were to be the courier. The parcel never arrived at all. I had to phone M & S customer service who sent a replacement order free of charge and on next day delivery. They used a different courier (DPD) this time and I got my parcel.

M & S customer service told me that they had been having a huge amount of trouble with Hermes and had only been forced to sign up to them due to needing increased delivery slots during the Covid lockdowns.

Exactly the same scenario played out again a month or so later when I needed to order some new bras from them and the stores were still closed due to lockdown.

I hope they have dropped Hermes as a courier.

A shit courier for delivering your goods is surely not good for businesses.

YANBU

Amazon Prime delivery is great. My current Hermes driver seems ok but previous ones have been awful and repeatedly lied about attempting delivery when they hadn’t been near the building. A different one was apparently incapable of finding a perfectly ordinary numbered house on a ordinary street in a ordinary (not new build) estate so gave up altogether.

I try to avoid places that use Hermes if I can so it’s really annoying if Amazon sneakily use them. Wish shops would realise that Hermes are the cheapest option (which I assume is why so many use them) because they’re absolutely shit.

coogee · 16/06/2021 10:13

I had a Hermes pick up for an Amazon return. No problems at all.

It's DPD that seem to employ short sighted half-wits around here. We put out special big signs with arrows pointing to the house when we know we are due a delivery via DPD.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 16/06/2021 10:21

I've had only 1 issue with a hermes driver and no ever with DPD. dxDelivery on the other hand😑😑😑

Is it Amazon Amazon or seller through amazon? Might make difference. I would contact them and explained

DianeCherry · 16/06/2021 10:30

I have this exact problem with Hermes, they are awful except the ones that come from Next which are always on time. Next must pay over the odds for a superior service. I can get a Next parcel and a "We couldn't deliver to you" message from Hermes in the same day. I complain endlessly to Amazon, at some point they will find another delivery company

user1493494961 · 16/06/2021 11:01

Our Hermes delivery driver is great, Amazon not so much.

looptheloopinahulahoop · 16/06/2021 11:05

I really do think that as a buyer you should be able to choose the carrier even if it costs a little more. Amazon Prime is ok when they use their own carrier or Royal Mail; for everything else I'd prefer Royal Mail because if I am not in the sorting office isn't far away, and I also know that if it hasn't arrived by lunchtime it's not coming that day, whereas with couriers you've often no idea.

I've got a parcel on its way by Hermes. To be fair I have not had problems with then, but I know their poor reputation and I always sigh when I see it's coming via Hermes. It should be in big letters on the website so you know not to buy anything from them!

MangosteenSoda · 16/06/2021 11:06

I wouldn’t buy the item or would cancel the order if I found out it would be delivered by Hermes. Absolutely nothing but terrible experiences with them. Also loads of emails saying missed delivery, wrong address etc etc when none of it was true.

I’m actually amazed to hear that it’s not problematic in some places.

Last time I ordered off Amazon they used an independent outfit. Amazing they were, just amazing!!

oneglassandpuzzled · 16/06/2021 11:08

Hermes is fine where we are.

GrandTheftWalrus · 16/06/2021 11:30

I ordered a football top in August last year, options on website was hermes or Royal mail next day. So I paid the extra for next day. Did it show? Nope. They decided to use hermes anyway and it took 5 days to get to me.

I then had to return it and it was hermes I had to send it back with. And they lost it! Finally after about a month of daily emails the company I'd ordered from gave me money back. I still don't know if they ever got it back.

I hate hermes.

Dpd aren't much better here either. I live in a building with an entry system and if they can't work it we get the "you weren't in" or "can't access property" we've taken to going downstairs and waiting outside with id. One night dh was waiting on a delivery and it was dpd and they said they tried to deliver and showed a picture from the middle of the carpark!

Bakingmad001 · 16/06/2021 12:07

My Hermes driver is brill but I know that is rare these days.
Amazon also use DHL I’ve noticed.
I’d agree with PP about marking down on feedback

GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin · 16/06/2021 12:47

YANBU. I had a delivery from H&M that came via Herpes...except that they (multiple parcels sent by H&M) never turned up. There was a litany of excuses, including they couldn't find the address (which I find hard to believe since I was having it delivered to work and it's an entire campus, which is signposted from everywhere). Fortunately H&M sent it via another courier and it arrived, but the whole debacle took about two weeks. I could have woven the fabric and stitched the clothes myself in that time!

For Amazon I always use a locker or click and collect.

coogee · 16/06/2021 14:59

One night dh was waiting on a delivery and it was dpd and they said they tried to deliver and showed a picture from the middle of the carpark!

We once got a delivery confirmation from them along picture of some random front doorstep. Not ours. We ended up wandering around the village vainly trying to match doorsteps to the picture. Somebody brought it round in the end.

GrandTheftWalrus · 16/06/2021 15:11

Some of them are totally useless.

ckmk · 24/01/2024 15:29

If they had someone who was brighter they would know where they was going.
