Is 27 too young to have a 3rd child?

hellohellow · 01/09/2019 17:54

Had my first at 20, second at 25, and I'm 27 next month.
Because I had my first so young I thought I would just get them done with however we suffered secondary infertility. Anyway DC2 arrived 5 years after his DC1.

Issue is..
I just feel like the whole of my 20s has just been revolved around children or trying for one. Don't get me wrong I love them dearly, so my question is

Should I just have my 3rd and last one soon or wait a few years?

Hi @hellohellow only you can really make that call but if it were me, I'd probably go for the last one now. It means that you will get all of the sleepless nights and school days over and done with in a oner and will be able to regain some of your freedom much earlier than if you left a long gap and had to start from scratch again x

SpanishTiles · 01/09/2019 18:01

Yeah get it done now, wish I'd finished by 30

Minai · 01/09/2019 18:03

I would probably go for it to get the baby years over with tbh. You’ve said you’ve spent your twenties looking after babies so if it was me and I definitely wanted another I would do it sooner rather than later so you have your thirties when you are starting to get your life back and more independence as they get older rather than have a break and go back to prams, nappies, night feeds.

Tryingtoocope · 01/09/2019 18:05

I had my third at 27, I'm now 39 and getting my life back. It's great

WaggingKnife · 01/09/2019 18:08

I don’t think so at all. I got my youngest grouping of DC out of the way in my twenties so that babies and sleepless nights were out of the way. I then went on to have more in my thirties and it has been a lot harder work and I feel like I’ve spent 16 years with babies.

WillLokireturn · 01/09/2019 18:09

That's a lovely age to have your 3rd DC. If there is such a thing, if you are going to have 3, keeping them close together is nicer for your DC if you can. It can be lonely being the youngest with a big gap and not everyone has that choice.

But ... only you know if you are ready for a 3rd and when you are.

ToniHargis · 01/09/2019 18:12

It's only two years since you had your 2nd so there's no hurry. If you had a third at 31, 33 etc, it wouldn't be particularly late. However, as someone who's got this, I wouldn't leave a huge gap between them if you have any control in this, because if the siblings are a lot older, the youngest is more like an only child.

PotteringAlong · 01/09/2019 18:14

Get it done. I know if I’d waited for DC 3 there would only have been 2 of them!

firawla · 01/09/2019 18:14

Really depends on you. I had my first at 21 and then had my next ones quite close together so I had 3 by 24 but then ended up having a 4th at 30 because I felt like I was still too young to have put all of those baby and toddler days behind me. Nice having them close together but If you feel like you need a bit of a break and time to just be you and breathe before diving right back into the baby days, then take a year or two?

EinsteinsArousedSausagesHCB · 01/09/2019 18:15

I had my 3rd at 26, 4th at 28. 1st and 2nd, I was 19 and 20.

My only regret is that I didn't have the 3rd and 4th closer to the eldest 2. Reason being, they're both at secondary school so pretty independent, whereas 4th has another year before starting primary.

BogglesGoggles · 01/09/2019 18:16

I would want to get children over and done with in one whever I had them,

monkeysox · 01/09/2019 18:19

Why not stick with two kids. Give them more?
We talked about a third but time, money, holidays, space in car..... 🤷‍♂️

Skyejuly · 01/09/2019 18:20

1st at 17
2nd 18
3rd at 25 and 4th at 29 Smile

ArthurMorgan · 01/09/2019 18:22

My sil is 27 and about to have her 3rd. She's going to have most of it done and dusted by 40 and I'm ever so slightly jealous...

EllesBells123 · 01/09/2019 18:25

If you want a third then your option is to have one now or wait. So if you feel like you've lost your 20s to making and having babies (and presumably are looking forward to moving beyond that particular phase in your life) that situation won't be improved by delaying.

TheJoxter · 01/09/2019 18:29

My mum had four of us by the time she was 25 Grin I think 27 is fine to have a 3rd, best to do it while your other two are still young I think

SistersOfMerci · 01/09/2019 18:31

If you do genuinely want a third then do it now. I spread mine out and it's only now, mid 50's that I'm getting my life back.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 01/09/2019 18:36

Hi OP

You dont have to have a third! Sorry I may have got this wrong as it's hard to tell with just a paragraph but kind of reads like you'd always planned 3, and don't massively want a third at the moment. If that's the case then dont have one at the moment, and reassess if you want another in the future or whether to leave it at 2.

ItWentInMyEye · 01/09/2019 18:40

I had my 3 by 25 and I'm so glad I did! Friends in their 30s are just starting and I'm so glad I don't have sleepless nights or nappies to do anymore. Do it if it's the right time for you/your family.

Blueandredandblue · 01/09/2019 18:47

If you already feel your life revolves around children, then don't. With 3 children so young, it will seem endless

Ainsl · 01/09/2019 18:50

Sooner rather than later!!

mystupidmistake · 01/09/2019 18:52

Definitely do it ASAP especially considering the secondary infertility

Ithinkmycatisevil · 01/09/2019 18:53

I’d get on and have one ASAP. Otherwise most of your (younger) adult life will have been devoted to nothing but having kids. Have your 3rd now and you’ll still be in your 40s when they’re all off hand.

I had dd1 at 19, then went on and had dd2 at 22. I won’t be having any more. I’m now 34 and my girls are growing up and becoming independent. I couldn’t think of many things worse than having to go back to nappies and breastfeeding!

SleepingStandingUp · 01/09/2019 18:54

Given it took 5 years to conceive no 2 I'd probably go sooner than later. If it takes 5 years theyd be 12 and 7. If you wait 5 years and it takes 5 years they'll 17 and 12!

SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace · 01/09/2019 18:54

I'm 30 this year and my youngest (DS3) has just turned 1.

I'm definitely don't now and whilst I do feel the tiniest bit sad that I didn't get to spend my late teens/20s doing the things my friends did I do love my life and am looking forward to getting experience it all just a bit later ☺️ I would say go for it now!
