to think the 2 men laying our patio shouldn't swear whilst my ds is playing in the garden?

ok so he's only 13 months and doesn't really understand and probably isn't going to pick up a word and start saying it after hearing it once but it really annoyed me. imo they are in my garden they should have respect and not swear. if they want to swear elsewhere fine but not when they are on a job and there are children about. in fact imo whether there are children about or not it is a bit unprofessional to be saying to your work mate "of f*ck off will you"

I'd say soemthing to them tbh

princessmel · 07/08/2007 18:43

YANBU thats not on.

Hows the crush btw??

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/08/2007 18:43

mmm, no YANBU - it's your house/garden and they should respect you

beansprout · 07/08/2007 18:43

It's reasonable not to want them turning up and swearing at your house, but I wouldn't want to be the one to try and stop them!

HectorsHouse · 07/08/2007 18:43

a 13 month old?

yes totally and utterly unreasonable

HectorsHouse · 07/08/2007 18:44

you pay more for respect and professionalism in this day and age

nappyaddict · 07/08/2007 18:47

OOOOOH What happened!!!???

Where did you meet?

What does he look like?

How old etc???

persephonesnape · 07/08/2007 19:11

i told off a London underground carriage full of arsenal supporters, for swearing in front ofmy kids when i was visiting my ex sister-in-law with my children.

If you're shrill enough they'll mumble, wring their caps and say 'sorry missus' whilst conjuring up sexual fantasies about you.

win/win.

My dh is a builder.. I know he swears.

I'd hate to think he would do it on a job, though reading this I suppose he might [eeek]

Will have to have a word!!

nappyaddict · 07/08/2007 19:25

goingthroughchanges can you ask him if he does swear on a job and what he would do if someone asked him nicely not to?

although what he tells you and what he might do may not be the same thing of course

Just go out there with a round of teas and say, can you stop fucking swearing please?

onlyWotz · 07/08/2007 19:29

Doesn't matter what age your dcs are, if you don't like ask them to keep their swearing in their home not yours.

Wilkie · 07/08/2007 19:30

TBH, most guys I know would be mortified if you asked them nicely not to swear and would happily oblige.

Defo take them a cuppa and just point out that you would prefer them not to swear in front of you son. If you do it in a friendly, non-confrontational manner they will be fine.

onlyWotz · 07/08/2007 19:30

and if that doesn't work do what Kbear says - lol

Greensleeves · 07/08/2007 19:32

simple: lay your own bloody patio

princessmel · 07/08/2007 19:33

Hi, no I'm not NA. I never got the hang of it.

I'm on Facebook though. Whats your name on there???

GoingThroughChanges · 07/08/2007 19:43

He says he would tell her to "catch herself on" I'm sorry......

nappyaddict · 07/08/2007 19:57

he would tell her to what??

sorry i don't understand goingthroughchanges.

OP posts:
GoingThroughChanges · 07/08/2007 20:27

Um.. "get a grip"

nappyaddict · 07/08/2007 20:30

so if he was working for me and i asked him to not swear he would still continue to do so.

that's answered my question thanks. just gona put up with it i think. don't want to risk having a shoddy job done.

is it cos he is so young? or would it not matter if my ds was say 3 or 4 either?
