AIBU to hide puppy’s crime

New puppy has ruined one of DH jumpers. He is at wits end with puppy chewing stuff and it was totally my fault as I kind of saw what puppy was doing but it didn’t register in my stupid brain until it was too late.
Should I bin evidence and claim ignorance when DH looks for said jumper? If I tell DH he’ll flip out and be foul about it. Probably want to get rid of puppy. Help :(

Replace jumper??

Cherrysoup · 01/09/2019 10:38

How did the puppy get hold of a jumper?

raspberryk · 01/09/2019 10:39

It's normal puppy behaviour, were you both in agreement about getting the dog?
Usually though they chew when bored or nothing suitable to chew so...
Also how was the jumper in reach?
They're like toddlers and you do have to puppy proof.

Lemonsorbetforme · 01/09/2019 10:40

Jumper was in a drawer under the bed, slightly open. Puppy pulled it out.
I will see if available but jumper isn’t a recent purchase. It’s a nice one too, not cheap

I would be more concerned with the fact neither of you seem.prepared for a puppy than about the jumper.

Did neither of you really not expect this to happen?

Why did he agree to a puppy if he is going to want to get rid of it for being a puppy?

SamBeckett · 01/09/2019 10:44

If you cover this crime up you will have to cover all of the next ones he does too , puppys are hard work ( I am guessing you have noticed this by now though ) so I would tell your DH what happened and make sure you both keep chewable stuff well out of his way .

Or you could say you damaged it by ironing i or washing it to hot .

Lemonsorbetforme · 01/09/2019 10:49

He’ll be more mad at me I expect, which is right cos I dropped the ball and failed to stop it. DH will just whinge about it so much i thought I might get rid of the evidence and deny knowledge when he comes to look for it.
He won’t really get rid of puppy, we both adore her. Totally right about puppy management though; we are trying very hard and learning lots.

I've been amazed at how much puppy proofing we've had to do since getting our dog. She's a little more sensible now, (she's 7 months and we've had her since April) but just yesterday I found one of my trainers in her bed. They really are like toddlers.

dollydaydream114 · 01/09/2019 10:55

If your DH is someone who would get rid of a puppy for chewing something, you shouldn’t have got a puppy in the first place.

KUGA · 01/09/2019 11:01

Dump it and try and get a replacement.
A jumper isn`t worth an argument.

Bin DH?

Selmababies · 01/09/2019 11:05

Burn the house down?

IsobelRae23 · 01/09/2019 11:09

Puppy is a furry baby. They teeth, they are learning, they are toilet training, they nip. If you aren’t prepared for a furry baby then maybe an adult dog would have been better for you.

Lemonsorbetforme · 01/09/2019 11:11

Couldn’t afford to keep puppy in manner to which she has become accostomoed without DH salary!
Thanks KUGA. Fingers crossed he doesn’t realise too soon and figure it all out.

Who left the drawer slightly open?

Badcat666 · 01/09/2019 11:14

Blame moths.... start washing any remaining jumpers from under the bed next week and wail loudly that moths had been rubbing their willies and having orgies in his jumper so you have burnt it and are now washing everything to get rid of their willy stains

EleanorReally · 01/09/2019 11:17

he wont want a jumper now though hopefully, is it too warm?
just chuck it

EleanorReally · 01/09/2019 11:17

my puppy chewed through two lap top cables!

she chews my hand fans, I am on the third fan, and she is now 6!

Blankspace4 · 01/09/2019 11:18

Bin it, buy a nice new one, tell him whilst handing over the gift!

Lemonsorbetforme · 01/09/2019 11:18

I left the drawer open. It’s all my fault. He’s so precious about his clothes and I can’t be arsed with the row.
Lol Badcat :)

Sounds like your DH is the real problem here and not the pupper Confused

Ohmywhatabigegoyouhave · 01/09/2019 12:05

Destruction is normally a sign of boredom
OP make sure the puppy is getting plenty of mental stimulation. It’s a tough time having a baby dog keep strong it’s always worth it x

amusedbush · 01/09/2019 12:16

DH left the bedside drawer open a few years ago and the dog chewed the photo page of my passport Sad it still had years left on it and I was furious! At DH - the dog was only young and doing what dogs do. Puppies get into absolutely everything so you need to totally secure your house to avoid this.

FiveFarthings · 01/09/2019 12:21

How old is puppy? Try introducing an antler (available from most pet shops). Dogs absolutely love them, it stopped my puppy from chewing as he was constantly nibbling the antler. Just make sure your puppy is old enough to have one as their teeth can be sensitive at a young age and it might be too hard for her.

ACupOfTeaSolvesEverything · 01/09/2019 12:24

Honestly I’d regime DH before rehoming the puppy
