AIBU to hide puppy’s crime

New puppy has ruined one of DH jumpers. He is at wits end with puppy chewing stuff and it was totally my fault as I kind of saw what puppy was doing but it didn’t register in my stupid brain until it was too late.
Should I bin evidence and claim ignorance when DH looks for said jumper? If I tell DH he’ll flip out and be foul about it. Probably want to get rid of puppy. Help :(

Rehome. Not regime. Stupid phone.

I have a friend who is a shit-hot dog trainer (her dogs have been in films and stuff) and her advice on puppies chewing stuff is as follows:

  1. When the puppy has chewed something it shouldn't, get a newspaper, the bigger the better.
  1. Roll the newspaper into a baton shape, as tight as possible, and secure it with parcel tape or gaffer tape.
  1. Take the newspaper "baton" and beat yourself repeatedly over the head, chanting all the while "I must not leave stuff where the puppy can get it", until you have knocked some sense into yourself.

Puppies are a nightmare. I am thinking of getting a metal sofa!!

Never leave them unsupervised unless in a puppy pen or a safe room. Plenty of chewy toys, enrichment activities.
NOTHING left below waist height. Handbags, remote controls, shoes etc etc.

Worse than toddlers...

Didn’t you accidentally wash it in with those old towels at 90c?
Unfortunately it’s shrunk to fit a barbie.

Moths may be the cause for the washing things on high.. don’t know if id go full moth orgies though

Dump it and try and get a replacement.

I agree - although that isn’t the kindest way to refer to the OP’s husband.

Tell him the dog is a canine genius and can open drawers. He'll be so proud he won't mind about the jumper.

picklemepopcorn · 01/09/2019 12:52

Own up, but phrase it so he doesn't get to moan on without being an arse.

"Bad news, I'm going to have to get you another jumper- puppy managed to get hold of yours and has chewed it. I don't know who to be crosser with, myself or the pup. I'll keep an eye out for something similar- please don't go on about it as I feel bad already."

I would not want to be afraid of DH's reaction to puppy crime. Is it always going to be your fault?

Mairyhinge · 01/09/2019 13:20

I remember when our pup managed to get hold of and chew one of OH's doc marten boots Confused I was same as you, worried about how he'd react etc and go mad at the dog.
I sewed it up! Was down the seam at the back of the boot. Believe me, sewing up a doc marten boot with a normal sewing needle is NOT fun and my fingers suffered for days.
Must've been a good Repair though cos he still doesn't know Wink
