here

I see these vans all over the place and they are so stupid. There's one with a tin of tinned tomatoes on it next to a busty girl - the slogan is "big and juicy".

a) what century are we in and
b) I would not be impressed if someone compared my breasts to a tin of plum tomatoes

There's also one with a tin of tuna next to a girl and the slogan says "flakey" and "chunky".

Idiots.

Desiderata · 07/08/2007 12:50

It doesn't bother me, to be honest.

margoandjerry · 07/08/2007 12:51

better picture

OP posts:
belgo · 07/08/2007 12:52

no, yanbu.

edam · 07/08/2007 12:53

I think that's really offensive. Wouldn't want to have to explain the slogan to ds.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 07/08/2007 12:53

Roasted? Does that mean what I think it does?

YANBU - they are vile.

mylittlefreya · 07/08/2007 12:54

Haven't seen them. But I agree that if you must use sex to sell food, either be subtle or genuinely amusing about it.

whiskeyandbeer · 07/08/2007 12:56

the "roasted" one is pretty funny.

margoandjerry · 07/08/2007 13:07

why is it funny?

fnaaar fnaaar, they said a possibly rude word?

OP posts:
aloha · 07/08/2007 13:08

Oh it's crap, isn't it?

oliveoil · 07/08/2007 13:10

outrageous

are they foreign though, they don't seem English ads to me, ours are usually funny and/or annoying and not outright sexist like these

oliveoil · 07/08/2007 13:11

I see a lorry near me all the time, think it is for mattresses or something and it has a huge pic of a girl draped all over the side of the lorry

I glare at the driver, he doesn't notice but it makes me feel better

margoandjerry · 07/08/2007 13:12

sadly, it's a UK company.

OP posts:
flowerybeanbag · 07/08/2007 13:13

Works though doesn't it? The company is now subject of discussion and has increased their public profile.
My first assumption was that it was deliberate in an ironic, get us noticed for being so outrageous way.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 07/08/2007 13:16

LOL though - it makes me assume 'poor quality tat from East Germany or similar'.

themoon66 · 07/08/2007 13:17

I've never seen any of these vans around. I think they are a bit last century and YANBU.

oliveoil · 07/08/2007 13:18

yes they scream tat to me as well

pathetic

hippipotami · 07/08/2007 13:20

I have not yet seen these around, and even though I have looked at the links I have no idea about what company we are talking about. So in this instance it has not worked on me!!

I find it horrid, old-fashioned, and grim, and would consider not buying from that company. After all, why would I want to buy tuna that has been so close to a pair of norks?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 07/08/2007 13:21

So who stocks this Nila crap then?
I can't imagine complaining to the company would have much effect, and the ASA have always been totally pathetic on anti-woman sexism IME, but if it is sold by a major chain I would quite like to let them know what effect the adverts are having

YANBU.

I have not seen those ads before but if the company has to resort to such base levels to sell its goods, the goods are not worth having, imo.

flowerybeanbag · 07/08/2007 13:24

lol hippipotami!
Subliminal brand awareness will have increased, even though you are certain you wouldn't buy from them.

I may be wrong about the deliberate nature of it, of course, they could just be really rubbish ads, in which case they are getting more publicity than they thought!

lionheart · 07/08/2007 13:33

YANBU. Hideous advertising.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 07/08/2007 13:42

Oh I see, they supply to the catering industry. Perhaps men tend to do the ordering. Sexist dorks, that is, rather than normal men.

mm22bys · 07/08/2007 13:51

They are revolting ads. It would put me right off buying from them.

But I guess it must appeal to a large enough share of the market or they wouldn't be advertising in this way.

Plus all of us are "talking" about it, so they have probably achieved their aim-greater brand recognition.

docket · 07/08/2007 13:52

YANBU. I've seen these around too and been very unimpressed. Tossers.
