1st "grown up job" - do you like these work shoes?

I'm going to be starting my tech grad scheme in just under 3 weeks.

I've always worn ballet with work outfits but I would like to look a little bit more polished. Can I ask your opinion on the shoes I've attached. They are the style I'm tending towards.

I am able to walk in stilettos but prefer a chunkier/more stable heel. I have a 40 ish minute commute into London (might wear trainers for this).

I've also attached a photo of a very typical outfit. Are slingbacks professional? I'm really worried about slipping on hard marble floors when it rains!

My sister HATES this style but I think they're nice.

I wouldn’t bother with such a high heel for work. If you can’t walk in them and they make you worry about slipping over, what is the real purpose of the shoes?! I’d be wanting to focus on being good at the new job.

InterestingView · 29/08/2019 15:41

I love them! where are they from? I can only wear chunky heels for work as anything stilello style kill my feet.

InterestingView · 29/08/2019 15:42

Sorry I see theres 2 types there. The first ones where are they from please?

KindergartenKop · 29/08/2019 15:42

Slingbacks are fine but don't go with tights and you might need to wear them in the winter.

Personally I go for a stiletto type shoe at work when I'm walking on flat surfaces and trainers to and from work.

Sparky888 · 29/08/2019 15:42

Sorry also, they look pretty. But that’s still a big second to the being able to walk and focus and be confident.

SellFridges · 29/08/2019 15:42

I wouldn’t bother. Commute in trainers and change into nice flats when you get to work.

WineIsMyCarb · 29/08/2019 15:42

V nice and quite practical. Good luck in the grad job!

Luckingfovely · 29/08/2019 15:43

The Dune ones are much nicer. I hate ankle straps, they make your legs look much shorter.

OneStepSideways · 29/08/2019 15:45

I think they look a but clumpy and not very attractive. Also difficult to match with outfits as they won't go with most dresses. I think a more elegant and versatile option would be a nude shoe with a lower heel.

lastminuteshopping · 29/08/2019 15:45

I'm okay in heels. I don't know why but I really feel like a child in flats. Also, I recently met my line manager and I was surprised that most women wear heels. I was really surprised.

I got some heels from Tesco - not really chunky but bigger than a stiletto, from their Sensitive Sole range which are comfy for wearing all day.

Can't seem to find them online though.

honeyloops · 29/08/2019 16:00

I think they're really nice! Defo wear trainers to commute though, everyone I know does that. Loafers always looks smart too if you can't be arsed wearing heels all the time (good for winter when you need a bit more stability) www.asos.com/women/shoes/flat-shoes/cat/?cid=6459&currentpricerange=5-260&refine=attribute_1046:8633

MaMaMaMySharona · 29/08/2019 16:03

I'd wear those to work without question. I couldn't cope in stilettos all day and would always go for a chunky heel - I've had no issues with them matching my outfits.

LouiseCollins28 · 29/08/2019 16:03

Think both pairs look really nice tbh, both look good for a first job and professional, congrats on your new role. If it’s a choice I’d go for the ankle strap ones as looking a bit sleeker but if you can afford both do it!

An alternate work pair is a really smart move, I remember having one pair to start a new job and wearing the heels and soles down too fast!

dollydaydream114 · 29/08/2019 16:06

These shoes are absolutely fine for work. Everyone's personal taste will differ so obviously not everyone will like them - but they are perfectly professional and appropriate. I think they're nice (although I'd go for the ones that have a back, rather than the slingback version).

I think they look a but clumpy and not very attractive. Also difficult to match with outfits as they won't go with most dresses. I think a more elegant and versatile option would be a nude shoe with a lower heel.

I don't agree with this at all - nude shoes are really naff and dated and also get grubby-looking very quickly and are quite summery. Dark shoes are better in a professional environment and a chunky heel is a good option for practicality. The shoes the OP has chosen are absolutely fine and will be fine with dresses. Not everyone has to dress like Kate Middleton, you know.

LouiseCollins28 · 29/08/2019 16:07

These look nice I think but they are a bit pointier so maybe more uncomfortable

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 29/08/2019 16:09

What do other people at the work wear? All the tech people I know are not very businesslike and dress for comfort.

peachgreen · 29/08/2019 16:11

The first pair are lovely though you'll soon need something a bit more winter-friendly.

alldaywatchingdragrace · 29/08/2019 16:15

Yep these look great! I work in an office for an IT company, we wear shoes like this. Some girls where courts or pumps but I couldn't do it all day. If I wear heels (try and get away with boots or sandals most of the time) they're just like this. I have a great pair and a black pair. I also have a black pair with open toes and they're fine.

hellsbellsmelons · 29/08/2019 16:19

First ones are very on trend.
But as PP has said you really need to get something to see you through the winter.
Loafers would work or ankle boots.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/08/2019 16:20

Depends what your job is, I suppose. You say 'tech grad scheme ' and also 'Also, I recently met my line manager and I was surprised that most women wear heels. I was really surprised.' ... I'm surprised too, I don't remember ever seeing a techy woman wearing that type of shoe.

If you like them and can fully function in them fine - but if they in any way disadvantage you versus a bloke then I wouldn't.

herculepoirot2 · 29/08/2019 16:21

They would be fine in all but the most corporate environments, where open backs might be looked on a bit askance. They’re nice.

YesQueen · 29/08/2019 16:29

I wear these, as an hourglass I need a chunky heel to balance me out!
