1st "grown up job" - do you like these work shoes?

I'm going to be starting my tech grad scheme in just under 3 weeks.

I've always worn ballet with work outfits but I would like to look a little bit more polished. Can I ask your opinion on the shoes I've attached. They are the style I'm tending towards.

I am able to walk in stilettos but prefer a chunkier/more stable heel. I have a 40 ish minute commute into London (might wear trainers for this).

I've also attached a photo of a very typical outfit. Are slingbacks professional? I'm really worried about slipping on hard marble floors when it rains!

I like them but tbh I refuse to wear heels anymore. I’d get a nice pair of flats instead.

Which is a bonus for you then you don’t have to cart another pair of shoes about.

I would wear low ankle boots or brogues late autumn to spring and loafers for spring and summer. Sling backs are not professional no.

I love them @lastminuteshopping! I think they're so cute and fancy a pair myself Blush. They'll be perfect for tech. I've had a lot of experience working in young tech teams, and would say don't wear stilettos.

You may find you switch to ballet flats after a while, as most techy types wear trainers (unless they're very senior/have client meetings).

Good luck with your first job Wine

Both are nice (though I’m not keen on block heels generally, I remember the 1990s).

But as winter is around the corner you may not get that much wear out of them for a while so personally I’d go for something enclosed.

They're a cute kinda style but it depends aesthetically what you wear them and sensibly if you can wear them all day.

A few of my uni mates were AMAZING at walking on heels on nights out for three years, then power dressed at work with heels and were humbled by their own feet by realising 8 to10 -12+ hours up and about on them is a different story to being drunk and high in a loud Oceana at 20 😂

Have a little practice run wearing any heels you're considering - wear them for a whole day and see if they're bearable.

Personally I'm good with heels if they're chunky, just as comfy as sneakers.

But I'm the company owner and in the media industry so I can wear sneakers when I like and I realise this isn't possible in other jobs!

Heels definitely aren't obligatory these days, and even the most formal environments are now absolutely fine with smart flats (ankle boots, brogues or loafers). Honestly, going into A/W, working in tech and assuming you're fairly young, I'd get brogues or boots instead, especially if you don't tend to wear heels. I like to dress smart for work, but I don't think I've worn heels since 2016.
