You can have anything you like from the supermarket

For dinner. With as little prep as possible. What do you pick?

If I must have an aibu, it's aibu to ask you to inspire me, I don't fancy anything in particular.

DH rang me from the supermarket. I don't fancy anything from there and didn't have the heart to make him go to the chippy too.

I might have cheese on toast and tomato soup.

Fancy fish pie and runner beans. Then a ready made raspberry trifle. Heaven.

Dontrainonmyparade · 28/08/2019 20:20

Goats cheese, roasted figs, rocket leaves, prosciutto, walnuts all tossed together with a balsamic/honey dressing.

moonbells · 28/08/2019 20:23

Sushi Daily. It might not even make it home. If money no object I'd really pig out quite seriously.

possumgoddess · 28/08/2019 22:01

Everybody is being very sensible! Mine would be a tub of Venezuelan chocolate ice cream from the Co-op. Just that. (But obviously I dont actually have it - I just want to have it.)

IAmALazyArse · 28/08/2019 22:03

Steak, broccoli spears, baby potatoes, tartare sauce

BigusBumus · 29/08/2019 11:10

Please can I just point out that it's "Charlie Bigham's", not "Charlie Bingham's".

Thanks.

Proof

I had tomato soup and toast. Even though the soup was Heinz, it was nasty. It was the reduced salt & sugar one. I won't be buying that again. When you feel a bit under the weather you need the proper stuff.

My local Tesco store is getting a Yo Sushi counter and I'm ridiculously happy about it. It isn't open but when it is I'd like that please.

RabbitPied · 29/08/2019 11:52

Open yet.

honeyloops · 29/08/2019 13:50

The lazy stuffed pastas - the spinach and ricotta one, with a bit of butter on after you've cooked, is well nice.

ChristmasFluff · 29/08/2019 14:57

I've literally just done this as am recovering from an infection and still feeling off food and too ill to cook, so was tempting myself as well as looking for something easy.

I came back with Heinz Big Soup vegetable version, a multipack of Wispas and a seeded loaf. Yum! Grin

ElizaDee · 29/08/2019 15:42

Nice choice @ChristmasFluff

Chorizo ring. Chop it and fry it. Add tin of chopped tomatoes. Simmer for 10 mins. Crack an egg in the middle then turn heat off when egg white done. Serve with warm ciabatta.
My heaven meal. Good with garlic in too if you can be arsed :)

BarbaraofSeville · 29/08/2019 15:51

Top tip OP. Baxters, or M&S or Waitrose own brand tomato soup is much better than Heinz.

I have no idea why Heinz are so popular, their products are nasty, almost without exception and there are better alternatives for nearly everything.

I would have had some king prawns and fried them in olive oil with garlic and paprika and ate them with crusty bread, but that makes me a pretentious twat apparently.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/08/2019 15:51

But tomato soup and cheese on toast is a good choice too.

Grumpbum123 · 29/08/2019 15:52

Morrison’s salad bar

ElizaDee, I'm sulking now! You said "as little prep as possible", and a baked spud and frying a steak takes as little prep as a ready-meal; apart from butter in the pan, all you have to do is turn on the oven and turn on one hob under the pan.

Washing up would take a little longer, I grant you, because frying pan.

And what's more you made me think about it, and what was for supper was a cottage pie with broccoli when my taste buds were geared for steak. muttermuttermutter

wink1970 · 29/08/2019 16:06

fillet steak cooked rare, bag of rocket with balsamic glaze squirted all over it, top with cherry toms & lots of black pepper. Large bottle glass of red wine

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime Ahh I'm sorry. Jesse70 made me think of chip shop and what I got was tomato soup, and nasty tomato soup at that, so I was in the same boat.

That only makes you pretentious when on a thread about dirty take-away. Prawns, or mussels or lobster & bread and butter are one of my favourite meals. I might have mussels and b&b tonight actually.

OP posts:
ElizaDee · 29/08/2019 16:14

I like the lidl mussels for a quick dinner. They are cheap (less than 2 quid a pack last time I got them) and they only need microwaving. Although aldi is nearer so I might see if they have them and try theirs.

No use now, but if you have a Lidl nearby their fake Heinz Tomato Soup called Newgate tastes just as good as Heinz does (in fact I couldn't tell the difference when I was challenged to), and cost me £1.35 for 4x400g tins instead of £2.50 for 3x400g for Heinz at Tesco. And I don't think they do a salt-and-sugar reduced version so the soup won't be unexpectedly nasty at you.

EightAce · 29/08/2019 16:16

Pot noodle and a can of condensed milk

Gingerkittykat · 29/08/2019 16:18

If I'm feeling flush a nice steak, some salad bits thrown together with a blue cheese dressing.

Morrisons ready cooked chicken with stuff from the salad bar, or any supermarket chicken with some tubs of salads.

Minimal cooking is always macaroni cheese with tomatoes chucked through.

The McCains ready baked potatoes filled with cheese and home made coleslaw. They taste like properly baked potatoes but you do them in microwave in a few minutes.

Scruffalicious · 29/08/2019 16:23

Chips + tin of chilli con carne + mozzarella + guac and salsa/sour cream = really easy dirty dirty fries.

Be still, my beating (probably clogged at the thought) heart.
