To ask for a refund of this accommodation

I booked two rooms (one double, one twin) via Booking.com. We’ve now arrived and the two rooms are in two unstaffed houses 8 doors apart. We have two boys aged 14 and 16 so it will be fine unless it isn’t .....unless there is a dodgy person in their unsupervised accommodation .....or a fire.
I called the owner who says he is fully booked/ nothing he can do and that Book8ng.com “won’t let him show it as separate addresses”.

I think this is unacceptable and have asked booking.com for a refund. Would appreciate any comments/advice.

Did you bother to contact the hotel prior requesting rooms together? If not then this is completely your fault. If you are that concerned then one parent can stay with each child.

Travelodge sometimes consists of multiple separate buildings with a 'several houses down the road equivalent' walk. Durham's for example. Lots of hotels do in fact. Country halls with a modern block in the grounds.

You can't book a room for 2 minors on Booking.com.

When did you last contact your hotel @ButterflyOne1 to ask if you would actually be staying in the hotel you booked? Don’t be ridiculous.
The hotel listing is quite seriously inaccurate.

ButterflyOne1 · 28/08/2019 16:54

@ClaudiaWankleman The listing will clearly state it's in sperate buildings. Clearly you didn't do your research ahead of booking and now you're throwing a strop.

ClaudiaWankleman · 28/08/2019 18:09

@ButterflyOne1
OP’s 4th post
Absolutetly no clue given that the second room at River View is.....not at River View.....

So the listing didn’t clearly state that there were two buildings. Eyes.

I am currently in a hotel in Germany booked through booking.com. DC’s are in a room on the next floor. We contacted the hotel directly to ask for rooms as close together as possible. This hotel consists of 3 buildings, one on other side of the street. No indication of this on booking.com (I just had a good look) but I still don’t think it’s important unless you need rooms to be close, in which case you should specify with the hotel. Let us know how you get on with a refund...

“What if you'd packed all the belongings in one suitcase? And only bought one toothpaste to share etc? You'd be running through the street in your nightie to pass over the Colgate.”

We were!

I'd be pissed off too. Whether they'll be fine is irrelevant. We don't know whether they have any issues/health or otherwise and need to be near parents. Apart from anything OP you have been misled. It's not practical or convenient either. I'd definitely ask for a refund but you have to do it whilst you're there. Google it for the details of where to contact if no joy from hols company. Hope you enjoy your holiday though and not let it spoil it.

Speakercube · 28/08/2019 22:52

Sorry missed the bit where you said you were only there one night and are back home. Still worth a try for refund though - it's crap and don't forget to review it on Trip-not-advisor once you've had a response from your claim.

areyoureadytobestrong · 29/08/2019 09:42

Thanks Speaker.

I really hesitate to give bad reviews (I don't think I've ever done so) but this may be the one that changes that. This is someone's livelihood and so I will only do so if they won't respond positively in private correspondence. I think writing to people privately gives them a chance....

You booked two rooms each with one adult one child. There is no issue.

katesalwayslate · 29/08/2019 16:00

You’re being quite ridiculous. They’re 14 and 16, not 4 and 6.

katesalwayslate · 29/08/2019 16:05

Just seen that you stayed in the room anyway! Why would you get a refund if you stayed there??! If it was that much of a problem you could have stayed on adult and one ‘child’ per room but you didn’t even feel the need to do that, and nothing happened like you said... so why would they refund you? I wouldn’t!

areyoureadytobestrong · 29/08/2019 17:33

...wonder where Kate would have liked us to have stayed......

Malmi

I understand that some hotels have different blocks - the Premier Inn I last stayed in had two buildings.

If OP had booked into that Premier Inn and had one room in each building I think she would have accepted it was her fault for not checking.

The issue is they were not part of one guesthouse with a few buildings - they were completely different guesthouses (like having booked two rooms in a Premier Inn and getting one there and one in the Travelodge down the road).
