To be angry and a bit upset

Had pelvic pain for couple weeks, saw dr who arranged for me to have vaginal swabs.
I rang for results today and receptionist said I needed an appointment for the GC one the others had come back clear.
Googled GC and its gonorrhea culture! After stressing all pm as I'm married and have ds and only have sex with dh .I've spoken to nurse who said oh sorry it's just thrush the dr wrote it in the wrong section.
I was 😲 The receptionist was only reading what was there so the mistake lies with the dr.

Oh wow whilst I'm sure it's a simple clerical error it's a bad 1.
I hope you didn't react towards your husband the way I would have

AvengerDanvers95 · 27/08/2019 16:47

I'm pretty sure this is one of the reasons a lot of surgeries won't tell you results over the phone.

I'm glad you don't have gonhorrea and that you don't have to divorce or kill your husband.

Foslady · 27/08/2019 17:02

I had my GP angry at me for wanting to be tested after having dd (strep baby) and told me that it would be thrush. Told her it wasn’t as I knew what that was like so she told me that meant either I or DP had been cheating (just what you want to hear when you have a 6 week old baby after a traumatic lead up to the birth and the onset of PND).
It was BV.........and I got a full apology from the GP in person.....

If you've got pelvic pain one of the tests the GP really should do is a swab for venereal disease. They can't absolutely know that you or your partner have never slept with anyone else.
They should have discussed it with you and explained the reason for it though.

bambalaya · 27/08/2019 19:15

It's a clerical error

TroysMammy · 27/08/2019 19:21

We never tell the patient what results are in depth because we are not trained. We only tell patient results ok, speak to Doctor (telephone consultation) or see Doctor (make an appointment). The only time we would tell a patient if it was thrush if the GP says "ring so and so to say they have thrush or a urine/skin infection and they can pick up a script".

kenandbarbie · 27/08/2019 19:22

It's a clerical error. Why would you be angry and upset?

negomi90 · 27/08/2019 19:23

They should have told you what they were testing for, but its completely appropriate that you have the tests if you have pelvic pain.
They can't and will not move on to further investigations without proving that you don't have something treatable and simple to test for.
(a lot of the vaginal swabs are also testing for other STIs - it probably Gonorrhoea probably isn't the only one they've tested for.)

Gruntvsgunt · 27/08/2019 19:25

Relax it’s a small error no harm done. No need to bother the practice manager who I’m sure has far better things to do

PrincessHoneysuckle · 27/08/2019 19:45

I will bother the practice manager it's her job to sort out errors surely?

OP posts:
Fcukthisshit · 27/08/2019 19:58

YABU. A (most likely overworked) GP has made a small error and you’re making a complaint?? You need to get over yourself and appreciate what GP’s are up against at the moment.

Butchyrestingface · 27/08/2019 20:00

Just about to go surgery to hopefully speak to practice manager

Why? Confused

MmmBlowholes · 27/08/2019 20:02

My gp once tried relentlessly to persuade me that I was likely to have an STD despite me being 100% sure that my DH wouldn't cheat on me (make of that what you will, but I trust him) and in the end it turned out to be thrush...

PrincessHoneysuckle · 27/08/2019 20:10

@fcuk would you like to be told you have to see a gp about having gonorrhea? I shit myself quite frankly, yes mistakes happen but if noone tells them it will keep happening.

OP posts:
OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 27/08/2019 20:13

I feel your anger there. I just found out today that some of my results were put in the system as fine when an infection was shown which meant the further tests required weren't run to rule out a kidney infection before they look at the possibility I have stones. I have to go back tomorrow to see if a different dr will escalate to the next step as they can see in my notes an infection was shown and I was treated for it and possible kidney infection in lieu of results. You've at least made me thankful that I didn't have gonorrhoea to worry about.

m00rfarm · 27/08/2019 20:18

Actually, this i s NOT a minor thing and of courser the practice manager should be notified. It is not acceptable in other jobs to make mistakes, so why should it be acceptable if you are a GP?

I cannot imagine how upset i would have been to have had a result like tht given to me over the phone - and then find out it was not even true!

NotMyRealName123 · 27/08/2019 20:22

Massive over reaction. Yes you are BU

Hanraa1 · 27/08/2019 20:32

I am a HCP and I do not get the people saying YABU?? We would fully expect that there would be a really justifiable complaint made if we had told someone they have an illness (especially one that impacts your personal life) when they don't. You are owed an apology and they need to tighten up on whatever caused this to happen.
I must have felt really worrying for you!!

Butchyrestingface · 27/08/2019 20:33

would you like to be told you have to see a gp about having gonorrhea? I shit myself quite frankly, yes mistakes happen but if noone tells them it will keep happening.

Of course mistakes will happen again. Nothing you say or do will prevent the occasional mistake. That's because the GP and the receptionist are people, not machines.

What a drama llama.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 27/08/2019 20:44

@Butchrestingface you may be a passive person but I'm not.I not going to just be quiet and not make sure that the practice dont know the error

OP posts:
PrincessHoneysuckle · 27/08/2019 20:44

@Hanraa1 exactly, thanks you are one of the few people who actually get it

OP posts:
PrincessHoneysuckle · 27/08/2019 20:48

@OhLook I hope you get things sorted x

OP posts:
Butchyrestingface · 27/08/2019 20:48

@Butchrestingface you may be a passive person but I'm not.I not going to just be quiet and not make sure that the practice dont know the error

"Passive" is something that I don't think I've ever been called but there's a first time for everything. Grin.
