Anyone awake? Dad has cancer

I'm 27, dad is 58. Last night he was diagnosed with bowel cancer.

I'm travelling home at 7am in the morning, am pregnant, super stressed and I just dont know what to do!

Anything funny happened, any stories to tell? 2 hours to go until my first bus, then 3 trains, before a taxi. He has an operation booked at 10:30am, I wont get there before he goes in.

I just wanted to offer support.
11 years ago my dad was rushed to hospital with a perforated bowel.
He spent 8 hours in surgery where they found a huge tumour. He had this and most of his bowel removed leaving him with a stoma.
I remember the first days after surgery, he looked so tiny and frail and was so so poorly.
I won't lie it was a long road of recovery, chemo and a few set backs.
But here we are 11 years later. He's doing great and has been clear of cancer since. He visits patients with the same condition in hospital now to offer counselling and support.
Please message me for support:
My babies were little, juggling them, home life and spending weeks at the hospital was exhausting. I've no idea how we got through it to be honest. Draw strength from wherever and whoever you can.
Sending big hugs

Dads cancer has spread to his lungs. They didn't get it all out of his bowel because it's on the small bowel too. Taking it would kill the small bowel. They said they can't cure it.

So sorry OP that it wasn't a better result Thanks

I’m so sorry to hear this. I can see it’s devasting but being incurable is not the same a being terminal. Look up @bowelbabe and @bowelbloke on Instagram. They’re several years into living with stage 4 cancer. There’s no doubt it’s going to be tough but he can be treated and often treated for many years! My advice though if he’s in Salisbury hospital is to get him treated in a research hospital which is where they see far more stage 4 patients and are at the cutting edge of new treatments. These include oxford Newcastle, Southampton, The Christie, Clatterbridge, UCLH London, Royal Marsden who are the best and actually the bowel unit at Northwick Park. If he has private care he should use it, he will get access to a far wider range of drugs.

Best of luck to you all

I missed your thread the first time OP but I’m so sorry to read this update.
It’ll be an awful lot for you all to take in. Vent here and make sure you’re seeking support for yourself while this all goes on.

Forgot it's also in lymph nodes.

Thank you for the information I will pass that on. Tbh he said he is going to fight it, right now it's a shock. Had my son in hospital too this morning. When it rains it pours.

Is your son home now?

Lovethetimeyouhave · 12/09/2019 18:58

Son is home now, he's had to have all blood tests and stuff as he's been throwing up every few days since falling in a lake
