Where's all the paracetamol gone?

Not sure if I'm imagining this but there seems to be less and less paracetamol and other Over The Counter painkillers on the shelves in shops ? None in the local Aldi for weeks.

I have been taking paracetamol and opioid capsules for years for arthritis. I take 8 of each a day. Thus 8 paracetamol. I get these from my pharmacy on the NHS and so should the lady mentioned in this conversation. The two medications appear to be essential together. I can't say I am getting much effect now, but things are worse without them

steff13 · 28/08/2019 19:37

I got a bottle of 1000 at Target. You want me to send you some?

Suzypoo10 · 28/08/2019 19:45

Never any of the cheap paracetamol or ibuprofen on the shelf in my local Morrison’s, and haven’t been any for months - plenty of the branded, expensive stuff though. And plenty at the pharmacy, but you have to queue for half an hour to get them!

Kuponut · 28/08/2019 19:49

Was low on both ibuprofen and paracetamol in Tesco here this week (our Tesco is pretty shit at restocking though so just assumed it was them) - were a few packs of both left but normally it's well stocked.

Wasn't Brexit stockpiling - I have shitty toothache.

damekindness · 28/08/2019 19:50

@JinglingHellsBells So no ones allowed to ask whether there is a shortage of something just in case it triggers a panic...blimey you really must think people on this forum are a bit dim Confused I think the responses have been quite balanced and thoughtful

None available tonight for online Tesco order Shock

Drabarni · 28/08/2019 20:01

Our Tesco had lots today all different brands including their own. I posted yesterday that all our cheap town centre shops were out.

HighNetGirth · 28/08/2019 20:04

Try your local garage. They price it so highly hardly anyone will be buying it there (if our nearest petrol station is anything to go by).

wildchild554 · 28/08/2019 20:09

@grannieali I thought they stopped providing things like this through nhs?
The only reason they let me have the codeine on prescription is because I can't get it anywhere over the counter with the parcetamol already in, but tbh at the prices of the combined versions couldn't afford to take it anyway and would have had to suffer so glad I can't if thats any indication of prices for the codeine.

wildchild554 · 28/08/2019 20:10

*without the paracetamol already in that should have said

BunchMunch · 28/08/2019 20:15

Tonnes of it in our local Asda. 30p.
Also just checked online - both Asda and Tesco both have it available for delivery.

SistemaAddict · 28/08/2019 20:24

@BubblesBuddy erm yes, they will. I'm still using the tea bags and loo roll I bought in the spring so the latest lot I've bought will last until the new year. No shortages of either in the shops so my buying extra in February/March hasn't caused shortages now Hmm

nuxe1984 · 28/08/2019 20:24

Get used to it. This is an advanced result of Brexit. Either people stockpiling or companies unable to get supplies to make the 5ablets (or packaging).

If it's not grown or created in the UK there are going to be shortages.

Sorry if you need it for a particular reason or if it's the only thing you can take but if you voted leave then tough ... suck it up ... you were told.

nuxe1984 · 28/08/2019 20:29

And yes .. I'm stockpiling. I did before March and I'm doing now. All the essentials, dried goods, tinned fruit and veg, I also have a very large freezer that I'm filling too.

Right now I don't give a shit about anyone other than my family. I didn't vote for this mess (and neither did they) so I don't see why we should suffer.

clarehhh · 28/08/2019 21:12

Think lots of people buy to take on holidays? Maybe will improve in Sept.?

Zoflorabore · 28/08/2019 21:39

Was at my local Tesco earlier and there was a sign where the paracetamol should be saying that they were due in stock on September 7th Confused

IndieTara · 29/08/2019 08:40

Ooh @RB68 that's my local I'll go there

gingersausage · 30/08/2019 09:52

So technically I can buy 96 paracetamol “at the pharmacist’s discretion”. I didn’t actually know that. Thanks @WrongKindOfFace.

@JinglingHellsBells, don’t be ridiculous. There aren’t enough people reading this thread to cause widespread panic buying; even if there was one person on this thread from every town in the U.K. it would have no effect. You can’t try to silence people just in case it has an adverse effect on you.

I’ve been having trouble getting one of my prescription meds, but there doesn’t seem to be much I can do. My regular pharmacy phones round others in the area to see if anyone else has it in stock. I guess if it disappears completely I’ll have to trial an alternative.

sandylo · 10/12/2019 12:25

I asked in aldi yesterday when they will be having health essentials paracetamol with caffeine back in as not had any in 4 stores in my area for weeks she says its all due to brexit im livid as these are the only tablets that help me even loads better than cocodemols strongest. Im voting lib dems 😈
