Where have they gone wrong? Why are their shops so dead on the high Street. They were buzzing in the 80s. Is it online shopping? Lush?

Yes I remember Anita rodick spouting about her beliefs only to sell out to loreal. Overpriced stinky tat most of it.

boatyardblues · 26/08/2019 18:02

Wasn’t the original premise that it was as free from unnecessary packaging as possible? They kept huge vats of stuff that you got refills from. Far from the case now...

If they’d stuck with that business model, they’d be minting it. There’s a shop near us where you can refill food and toiletry containers (any container, you weigh it before & after) and it is always heaving when I go in to refill my spice jars. People are much more interested in reducing their environmental footprint now. Roddick was streets ahead when you think about it.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 26/08/2019 18:03

They only seem to sell body butter.

Yes! What is this obsession with body butter? I have so many pots of it that I've been given in Christmas presents, I could start a shop. I don't like it and never use it, and don't want to throw it away, but honestly what can I do with it?

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 26/08/2019 18:04

It's expensive if you buy full price and in the shops. Order on line and you nearly always get 25% off or other really good deals. If you know anyone who sells on FB then you don't even need to pay postage.

R2G · 26/08/2019 18:05

They stopped doing refills

Fraggling · 26/08/2019 18:05

Just boring in there and weird stuff I don't want.

Used to buy eyeshadow there they don't do singles any more but you have to buy a separate compact, most people will not be reducing packaging with this approach but spend more is cynical.

OurChristmasMiracle · 26/08/2019 18:05

Last time I used body shop it bought me up in a horrendous rash all over so I haven’t been back.

Stripyseagulls · 26/08/2019 18:07

Their Passion fruit cleansing gel used to be my fav thing ever but they seemed to stop making all the good stuff

keepingbees · 26/08/2019 18:07

My local one has closed now, but i never went in. Everything far too expensive and the products were nothing special. Too many body butters and over priced gift sets. Because my branch was always empty you got watched by the gossiping girls on the till so it was uncomfortable going in for a browse.
Superdrug round the corner, cheap good quality products, with their finger firmly on the trend pulse.

museumum · 26/08/2019 18:08

The staff won’t leave you alone to browse Angry
Yes, not their fault I know, probably company policy. Makes it even worse.

Almahart · 26/08/2019 18:09

Sold out to Loreal

Too expensive for what it is

user27495824 · 26/08/2019 18:10

They lost all of their loyal fan base with the whole L'Oréal who test on animals didn't they? I'm amazed they kept going so long through that. They've recently been bought out again and vastly improved imo. I bought lots of Christmas presents from there last year. I won't this year though, unless they start selling more environmentally friendly products. Bar shampoo/tins/all the old shaped bars of soap.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 26/08/2019 18:10

I use cammomile face balm,it comes in a tin and I like the Xeminia scrub,I wait until they're on offer them buy.

They're like No7,over priced until you have a voucher/money off.

GrannySquares · 26/08/2019 18:10

I still visit Body Shop in my local town and it is fairly busy.

Siameasy · 26/08/2019 18:11

Too expensive
Lost it’s hippy image which I loved at the time
I loved ice blue shampoo, ananya..stuff smells really synthetic now

TheWernethWife · 26/08/2019 18:13

I stopped going in years go, only had to put one foot over the threshold for staff to pounce and follow me around, told them I was having a browse but they still tried the hard sell. WTF are the managers up to, the staff are a bloody nuisance.

Same goes for small branches of NEXT, went in one and within 5 minutes 3 members of staff asked me if I needed help. To buy a bloody jumper, I think not.

EskewedBeef · 26/08/2019 18:14

They stopped refilling bottles, moved away from the earthy ethical image, seemingly doubled their prices in the high street stores but sold some of the less popular and out of season items at a discount in the 'outlets'. They changed everything, in other words. Plus no soaps shaped like animals any more Sad

ScreamingValenta · 26/08/2019 18:16

They just don't seem to have the range of products and fragrances they used to - it's all focused on two or three things.

I remember in the 90s there were dozens of perfume oils to pick from, lots of different shampoos, three colours of henna and the make-up was really cheap.

Plus, now you can't buy anything there without the sales assistants trying to upsell to you - I understand it's their job, and they're always lovely and friendly, but it's such a waste of time.

LittleSweet · 26/08/2019 18:16

I stopped shopping there when they discontinued Passion Fruit Cleansing Gel. It briefly came back, but discontinued again. Sad

Breathlessness · 26/08/2019 18:18

They became L’oreal owned and have now sunk to MLM.

Body Shop
At Home Hmm

LittleSweet · 26/08/2019 18:19

I used to take my bottle down and refill it at the shop, before the fashion for it now. If McDonalds were that caring about plastic (with their cardboard straws), they'd have found an alternative to plastic lids on their drinks.

InglouriousBasterd · 26/08/2019 18:19

Their soaps are still ok and reasonably priced but I find myself harassed and having cream rubbed into my hands whilst trying to get to the soaps.

Cahu58 · 26/08/2019 18:21

Their honey bronzing powder is as good as Guerlain.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 26/08/2019 18:22

I miss the wee soaps that were shaped like animals or fruits and bath pearls.

Would love refillable shampoo/conditioner/soap etc.

Take heed bodyshop.

NameChangeNugget · 26/08/2019 18:23

I used to love their aftersun products especially the watermelon one but, they stopped doing it.
