To think you cater for kids at a kids party?

Was at a party for one of DS's nursery friends.
Parents are well off so I don't think it was a money issue.
Party in a leisure centre hall with a bouncy castle and proper paid entertainment for the kids - but no food! (Unless you count a single packet of crisps).
DS had only had a very light lunch as he'd fallen asleep for an hour before we went and I was expecting him to fill up on party food anyway.
All the kids were bombing about and clearly a lot of other parents had thought there would be food as their kids were obviously hungry.
No place near that we could have snuck out for a supermarket sandwich for them.
AIBU to think you feed the kids at a birthday party?

I would expect food at a kids party.. everyone i have held or attended ther has been food provided even if just light snacky foods.

greentheme23 · 26/08/2019 08:38

Yes you feed kids at a kids party. Otherwise it's just an activity and not a party!

3LoudBoys · 26/08/2019 08:39

Depends on the time of the party. If it ends between 12:00pm - 2:00pm or after 5:00pm then yes. Otherwise I wouldn't.

FiveLittlePigs · 26/08/2019 08:41

Got to have food at a party! Like pp said it's just an activity otherwise.

MrsMozartMkII · 26/08/2019 08:43

Two DDs. What seemed like a million (only slight exaggeration) parties over the years, never once went to or threw one that didn't have food.

CalmdownJanet · 26/08/2019 08:44

Ah stop it doesn't matter what time of the day it starts of stops! It's a party therefore it should have food, doesn't matter if it's an adults or a kids party - a party has food! Anything else is just a big playdate you arrange to get presents, tight fuckers

Ginseng1 · 26/08/2019 08:45

Don't care what time party at. Would expect some food even if a sandwich or slice of pizza! Presume there was at least cake?!

EmrysAtticus · 26/08/2019 08:46

Doesn't matter what time a kid's party should always have food.

Cryalot2 · 26/08/2019 08:49

Always food at a kids party. Never been to one that there hasn't been.

Ithinkmycatisevil · 26/08/2019 08:50

It should have food, they were being tight. I have been to one or two kids parties over the years with no food, which I found really odd.

UrsulaPandress · 26/08/2019 08:51

Always food and enough left for the adults to graze when kids have finished. I loved a party egg butty.

SardineJam · 26/08/2019 08:51

Was there a birthday cake @FairfaxAikman

Catbrat · 26/08/2019 08:54

They should definitely provide food, even if it's just snacky bits. My eldest is 11 and has been to tons of parties over the years, all of which have had food. If they wasn't providing food then they should have said so people could come prepared!

Rockbird · 26/08/2019 08:55

Of course you have food at a kids party, even if it ends at midnight! What kind of tightarse doesn't feed party guests?

Lazypuppy · 26/08/2019 08:56

I'd say yes, but depends what time the party is.

11-2 i'd expect food
3-5 i probably wouldn't

proseccoaficionado · 26/08/2019 08:56

YANBU.

And it's so easy too: pizza, sandwiches- and non expensive. Rude.

sheshootssheimplores · 26/08/2019 08:57

This happens so often round here it’s crazy. Parties at all times of the day, some catered, some not. Just write on the invitation that there’s food or there’s only cake, it would help the parents of the guests massively. I couldn’t care either way I just would like to know so I could organise an alternative.

zzzzzzzz12345 · 26/08/2019 08:58

If it doesn’t span a mealtime - so between 2-4 say - then no I wouldn’t do food. Been to parties like this though fairly few admittedly and we've been warned in advance. I know people who deliberately chose this window so they didn’t have to cater as they hated all the Waste at other parties.

And of course it’s still a party. Entertainer and bouncy castles are special day events and I don’t think that small kids care about the food anyway - they just want to run around!

FairfaxAikman · 26/08/2019 09:00

Party started at 1pm.
Yes there was a cake.

PARTY=FOOD!

Obviously..!

CasperGutman · 26/08/2019 09:00

Been to hundreds of parties as a parent (and as a child in the 80s) and not one hasn't involved food. The time of day is neither here nor there. This is seriously weird, and I'd be pissed off with the hosts for not at least warning me so I could ensure my DS are well first.

firstimemamma · 26/08/2019 09:00

Yanbu there should always be food! Sounds like you went to a weird 'party'.

Henlie · 26/08/2019 09:01

I would definitely expect kids food at a kids party....no matter what time the party. Yanbu Op!

FairfaxAikman · 26/08/2019 09:01

@zzzzzzzz12345 I think these kids cared - I heard a couple complaining to parents that they were hungry
