to keep a dress I ordered online because it was a great deal but I’m not sure I’ll wear it?

It’s beautiful (to me) it fits and I love the embellishment but I’m not sure when I’ll wear it? I was looking for another dress when I stumbled upon this one in the sale. I’m keeping the other dress to. Is it really a bargain? I don’t often buy from Monsoon so not sure.

Should I keep it? I know, first world problem and all that jazz but a lighthearted thread on this sticky Sunday evening Grin

It's a beautiful dress, and if it fits I'd say keep it! I have a dress that I absolutely love that I have never worn and am unlikely to wear any time soon, but I refuse to give it away because I love it.

If you want to work out whether or not something is a bargain, consider what the cost-per-wear is.

I'd send it back if you don't think you'd wear it. It is a lovely dress. I had a wardrobe clear out recently and one of the dresses was one I loved when I bought it but never got round to wearing. It went into the charity bags, labels and all.

just looked at it. It's £70. I thought it was much cheaper. £70 is not cheap for something gathering dust. Also, the dress is very 'specific' - something for occasions , not suitable for office or the school run. Unless you can see occasions coming where you can wear it, I'd send it back .

You could put that £70 towards a dress you love and will wear?

Having said that, if you can afford it, why not hang onto for a special occasion.

It’s gorgeous, but yes, it is very “specific “. Could you shorten it it so there’s just one ruffle at the bottom? Make it a bit more versatile.Keep the bottom panel to reattach if you ever need it.
It’s such a beautiful dress, I’d be reluctant to return it.

Personally I would return it...I never dress up to that extent and cannot see an occasion where I would. I would use the £70 for something I would wear.

I think that's totally wearable for ordinary occasions with a long black cardi, flat boots or similar. Spend a bit of time working it into your wardrobe. It's nice to wear something different

When did you last go to a party where you could have worn it? Two years ago? Ten years ago? Twenty years ago? How likely is it you’ll go to a dressy party this winter? What are you doing at New Year’s Eve? You need clothes for the life you live, not for the life you’d like to live.

Make a reason to wear it, it’s beautiful, and if you feel gorgeous wearing it, it was meant to be.

For me, it’d only be wearable for a ball or a black tie party. I rarely go to those type of events. Do you?

Age with those who say it's only a bargain if you will use it. If you keep it then I crab imagine you in 10 yrs time cleaning out your wardrobe and chucking it into the charity bag. Just cut to the chase and give your favourite charity £70!

But I would also where it right now with flat black sandals out for lunch or to the pub. I think it's possible to dress it down.

Even if not possible to dress it down I would still keep it if I loved it. I have at least a dozen items like that some of which don't even fit me! Amongst the list is a 19th Century Opera Cape.

I love that section of my wardrobe - antique clothes, a velvet/satin 1950's dress I can't fit in but was my going out dress in my 20's, hats, ancient kid gloves, shoes from every era including those Carrie Manolos which I can't wear as they're too high for me.

In fact I'm going to the Opera at Christmas and I really want to wear the cape - no one dresses up at Covent Garden any more so I'm going to be asking on here closer to the day how to dress it down!
