to keep a dress I ordered online because it was a great deal but I’m not sure I’ll wear it?

Monsoon dress reduced from £250 to &70!
uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_6.4/5412480108

It’s beautiful (to me) it fits and I love the embellishment but I’m not sure when I’ll wear it? I was looking for another dress when I stumbled upon this one in the sale. I’m keeping the other dress to. Is it really a bargain? I don’t often buy from Monsoon so not sure.

Should I keep it? I know, first world problem and all that jazz but a lighthearted thread on this sticky Sunday evening Grin

Meal out ,wedding ,anniversary, pub even ...just wear it ,it’s lovely 😊

TriciaMcMillan · 26/08/2019 07:53

It's fab, keep it AND wear it. I don't see it's super formal or only for a very specific do. Dinners out, parties, any halfway special event. Keep it and make good use of it. Also put it on at home and float around feeling fantastic. I periodically try on things I haven't worn recently (or yet!) and enjoy them. If it doesn't put you in financial hardship, treat yourself and have fun with it Grin

bellabasset · 26/08/2019 07:55

If you have the opportunity to wear it then keep it otherwise send it back

Ponoka7 · 26/08/2019 07:56

Is it your style?

If it is you will find an occasion to wear it.

£70 is cheap for what it is, but isn't cheap if you only end up wearing it once in a couple of years.

Readytogogogo · 26/08/2019 07:58

I think Marie London's advice works here. It it's useful or sparks joy then keep it.

If you keep it, find a event to wear it to!

Readytogogogo · 26/08/2019 07:58

Or Kondo even...

spectacularspectacular · 26/08/2019 08:01

Definitely keep it!
I bought the most beautiful dress from Monsoon 7 Years ago, It's my favourite dress of all time but I've never worn it!
The occasion to wear it will come though, as will with yours Smile

Beautiful dress.

It’s rather nice to have something lovely sitting in the wardrobe waiting to be worn. (As long as it’s only the odd thing.)

Yes to creating opportunities to wear it. Birthdays / anniversaries if these happen in your social circle. A night away somewhere grand if not. I don’t know anyone who goes to Christmas parties, but you might ...

In the meantime - do you not have a beloved family member or friend who couldn’t afford such a thing but really needs a lovely dress for an occasion? Lending clothes brings a great feeling of virtue. (As long as the borrower is careful.)

I agree it could be stylishly dressed down with an enormous roll neck jumper and ankle boots/brogues.

What does your opera cloak look like Laurie? (I suspect you could only reasonably wear it to the opera with shredded jeans or sludgy cords. Even tweed would probably be too costume-y.)

SolitudeAtAltitude · 26/08/2019 08:02

No, it will look very dated by the time you wear it (in 10 yrs)

WoollyMummoth · 26/08/2019 08:06

Definitely keep it! It’s beautiful.
I’ve got my favourite gothic dress on an ornate tailor’s dummy in my bedroom. It brings me joy every time a look at it.

CupoTeap · 26/08/2019 08:10

Find a reason to wear it

IsobelRae23 · 26/08/2019 08:14

It’s ok. Not my style. However if you really like it keep it. But if you are not going to wear it, then it’s not a bargain.

GreenwoodLane · 26/08/2019 08:56

It might be nice, but it’s only a bargain if you use it. And it’s still £70. It’s not as if it was a tenner.

CookPassBabtridge · 26/08/2019 09:01

I think it's sad when clothes don't get worn. They need to go out into the world and show off Grin That dress needs a dinner out somewhere.

EmmaJR1 · 26/08/2019 09:04

Dinner, theatre, birthday bash, posh wedding, Christmas party, romantic date, anniversary dinner?

It's beautiful!

ThePhoenixRises · 26/08/2019 09:13

You will have to organise some kind of party, just so you have an opportunity to wear it now Grin

SweetMarmalade · 26/08/2019 10:54

I absolutely love looking at it and I do wear Maxi dresses so I’m used to this length of dress.

Good idea about dressing it down! I follow a couple of people on Instagram who would definitely wear this in the day, dressed down cleverly. If I lived in London and I walked about in the day with my party frock on, no one would bat an eyelid, well almost no one!

Also to the pp who suggested shortening it! Good idea. Even though I’m 5’7 this is a long maxi dress and I would need to wear heels with it. I could find a good seamstress to see what she suggests.

Best of all dp loves it too! Generally doesn’t comment much on dresses but he has said it looks great!

Apparently only 620 of these made? Good selling point? Maybe?

There must be another Mnetter with this dress! Grin
