Ohio - there's a long running thread in AIBU where OP has £200 a month for groceries. I believe she needs to feed a family including a toddler and several step DC EOW. I'm not in the same predicament but it's been helpful reading all the suggestions around meal planning (lots of useful sites, recipes etc). I need to get organised re evenings meals when DC are back at school and also control my impulse buys.

@HearMeSnore Darked on? I'm a prolific leaver-outer of washing, does the dark do something to it? GrinConfused

ZiggyB · 25/08/2019 22:02

My washing is currently being darked on. I forgot to fetch it in. 🕷 willies

Hopefullyendsmeet · 25/08/2019 22:05

Stopped buying a lot of tat. Thanks to the heads up on useless products.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 25/08/2019 22:06

@Pixilicious it's called the oil cleansing method. It seems crazy to put oil on oily skin but it's amazing! My skin now glows and the redness and blocked pores around my nose have gone. I'm 34 and have tried everything over the past 20 years, wish I'd found out sooner! I massage it in at night to remove make up, wash off with very warm water using a cloth (this helps to exfoliate too), then moisturise with more oil. In morning I just splash face with water and then use the oil as moisturiser. I love that I'm not using any chemicals any more either. Jojoba mimics the skin's sebum so your face doesn't feel the need to produce excess oil. Reverse psychology! Try it!

Yes today in london i tried the chicken walk where women dont get out of the way of male pedestrians as we usually do and got slammed into a few times. I will repeat this as its eye opening and fun basically.

Ooh what’s the useless products thread??

Pleaser256 · 25/08/2019 23:37

I bought a water floss thing

blindedbytiredness · 25/08/2019 23:38

What's wrong with fabric softener??

Eastie77 · 26/08/2019 00:49

What actually happens when clothes are darked on? Do they literally get darker..?

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 26/08/2019 00:54

What's wrong with fabric softener

Nothing - except it does nothing.

You do not need it. It does nothing (apart from cost you money.)

ZazieTheCat · 26/08/2019 01:07

Spiders rub their willies on your washing @Eastie77

Did my nails and Vaselined my face.

JohnandMary · 26/08/2019 01:44

Bought some houseplants (and decided to plant a lot more in the garden). All this talk of private jets and carbon emissions got me thinking.

GreenwoodLane · 26/08/2019 08:28

Bleach and hot water. Who knew??
Was pegging washing out at 10.00pm last night using sons head torch as unexpectedly out all day. Don’t care about being darked on.

Raera · 26/08/2019 13:10

As well as the bleach in only cold water, I've just peeled fresh ginger with a spoon, not a knife.

RezCowgirl · 26/08/2019 13:15

The hot water and bleach not only makes it ineffective, it produces chlorine gas - not that great for the lungs.

SistersOfMerci · 26/08/2019 13:15

Bought a fabulous bright coloured lipstick, totally out of my comfort zone with brights but made me feel great.

Spoonsmum · 26/08/2019 13:19

@Raera me too!

SistersOfMerci · 26/08/2019 13:22

Things that I've previously done from MN are.

Double cleansed my face.
Stopped using fabric softener.
Stopped using bleach.
Started use no hyaluronic acid on my face.
Started using liquid gold on my face.
Switched from shower gel to proper soap to wash my body with.
Bought an instant pot.
Stopped using any throwaway wipes.

MN is really a great resource to improving your life and becoming more environmentally aware.

Oh and I've learned absolutely loads from the feminist boards!

ZiggyB · 27/08/2019 00:22

Discovered the organised mum method yesterday and planning to get started this week.

Instant pot? Sounds fab and making Greek yoghurt.

NorthEndGal · 27/08/2019 00:23

With Mumsnet's help I fixed my driftwood sign Smile
